Decided to go straight for Kiln Lane access, parking on Little Heath Road opposite Kiln Lane. Deal's Lane access restricted due to private houses and gardens. Tempting field access at top of Kiln Lane to cut across directly to back of Deal's Lane houses, however ankle deep (at least) mud persuaded me to stick with Kiln Lane. Field access to left is protected by barbed wire, so carried on to wood were path on left follows field boundary with more barbed wire on the left. Just before fence turning point there was a broken post creating low point to step over barbed wire. Crossed boggy field to hp at back of Deal's Lane gardens. Spotted a gate opposite school which gives a more direct access to hp, and a straight forward walk along Little Heath road back to van.mntainman10/02/2024

First walked to top of Beals La, then up Kiln Lane as far as woodland, then easily into paddock. Seem to be many candidate spots for HP. Sunny morningpwheeler07/07/2023

Midday, 15 degrees, sun and cloud, blustery north westerlies. Parked in The Birchwoods, walked up Kiln Lane past jonglew's summit photo (not at the GR given) then across field to the official summit and back along the road.Wycombe Wanderer26/09/2022

Parked in Warborrough Avenue. Walked to The Birchwoods then along Kiln Lane to the horse paddock then back to the car covering all potential high points.fosal2919/01/2020
A 7 mile circular from Tilehurst station also checking out the 100m contour to the Nw (all lower) then paddock SU6558 7370 then track and cottage (all lower than field). Adj field to the South to intersection of fences SU6540 7355 read high then back onto road past nice large oak. Lane reading high and part-way into Warborough avenue. Continued to the Reading county top however not convinced this one is any higher so could be an extra tunp for Reading?Dazingdale28/07/2019

Horse field? More like paddy field. Churned bog, swamp, quagmire. Welly sucking!Campbell Singer29/03/2018

There is a slightly raised ridge in the horse field which seems to be the highest point and which matches the GR.clivevilla21/07/2017

Purley on Thames to Calcot. Dovecot at SU649725 provides a pleasant viewpoint. My electronics suggest that Firs Rd, S of water tower, was HP of the traverse.Smudge12/03/2017
Parked in entrance to Kiln Lane. Sad looking horses in the field to the L so we left them alone & opted for the ground by a large oak tree just E of Kiln Cottage.DanMaisieBex12/02/2017
Kiln Lane didn't look like highest point but hard to tell.Bramley30/11/2016
Walked here after Park Lane, Tilehurst. Again not a very auspicious hill. Very difficult to identify the exact high spotSixtyplus04/11/2016
West Berkshire TUMP completion.Dugswell203/11/2016
11pm tiptoe in dark along Kiln Lane & fp and back -hoping not to be mistaken for a burglar or set off any barking dogs at this time of night. This stealth approach sadly curtailed the option of letting off fireworks to celebrate my completion of West Berkshire Tumps. Not even a sparkler; although I could have celebrated with a 'Legal High' drink before the ban came into force in one hour at midnight.Chris Pearson25/05/2016

From Manchester to complete last 3 in W Berks: Brief stroll up Kiln Lane: Very flat field. RHW may be right about water tower.GordonAdshead04/09/2015

Kiln lane, west past Kiln cottage. Hyper muddy path. Over barbed wire fence south. Circuit of undulations of grassy field and few pools of thin ice on standing water and back again with high point of Tilehurst satisfied.vegibagger22/01/2015
Short walk on RoW to entrance of Kiln Cottage. HP appears to be at this point or maybe in the grounds of said property.jonglew06/12/2014

Some TuMPs are great. But this is not one of them. Flat & uninteresting and no views. Short stop only. Top seems to be roadside so at least no trespass required.Hillsidenick01/12/2013
some horses in the field. further on a nice steep drop on woodland is more interestingAdrian27/02/2011

rdside summit@654733, tabled GR 655737 appears lower, nearby Water Twr 663729 likely as high or higher. rdside RHW20/10/2002
Another backdated claim which will have been completed by the noted date during the time I lived here. Tilehurst top is a large plateau of fields and housing and the top could be hidden anywhere though I note the small 105m contour on the N side of the Kiln Lane FP on my 1:25,000 map.crazy01/08/1999
