Made a marathon out of bagging a few hills. Bo'ness Union St cp. John Muir Way to Nethermill Bridge, back Rd to Union Canal. Stile on R after B8046 and easy up Philpstoun Bing N. Descended gently off W end to track to canal bridge. Over and up obvious path to Philpstoun Bing S. Interesting walk round whole crater - felt quite exposed on SE ridge to get hardly walked S Philpstoun Bing additional top. Back on Union canal and crossed at Manse Rd and took lane round N and E of Clarendon Cres, then S to sub stn. Field edge mainly to Parkley Hill. Back same way to canal to Xcite and round rugby ground to Linlithgow Loch. Colt Hill from path to S. Lochside and Bonnytoun farm to fp to golf course. Fairway to Hope Monument and Airngath Hill. Fp to Bo'ness. 42km 400m climb great day.Lynnebe06/03/2024
Forget the canal path, cross road from CP to better path with sign sponsored by Max's tyres. Good range of interesting flora, including delicious wild strawberries (who'd have thought).Martin R20/07/2023

Verge parking space just north of bridge over railway (too potholed to risk entering marked car park on a bend). Walk round to near marked car park and followed vague paths from there on to crater rim. Fun walk, maybe less so if ground wet. I subsequently found aerial pics and info on https://canmore.org.uk/collection/1033417 .willyross10/04/2023

From mapped parking area by canal (NT 0598 7674). Canal path for ~60m then into woods and up and over small bing before attacking the main one. Walked its length to go over another canal bridge for the South Bing, a more complex bing.jonglew08/02/2023

Parked at the canal car park. Followed the canal path and jumped the style to the top. Few potentials but I think the high point is on a flat at the top. More interesting one to the north but. Headed down towards the bridge on the west side.JAdair9730/05/2022

From CP under road. Good tracks and already well-established woods on the fine North Bing. Crossed bridge to W and did the South one as well - well worth doing.sclater14/03/2022

Crossed canal from south top and headed up through the woodland. Really nice playground for big kids! 15 mins up and down.Nicky C12/12/2021
Parking area by canal, along towpath a couple of hundred yards then straight up, which was daft, very steep and crumbly, better to use stile as suggested. On W & down to bridge over canal for S top.agentmancuso19/11/2021

Following on from the South Bing, and following directions given by others. A huge site, the environmental impact of which hits as you stand in its centre.Hirta21/12/2020
From the car park at the canal. My third bing of the day, but not as entertaining as the Greendykes ones !NormanW15/10/2020

Better than expected. Good all round views.hillsman19/03/2018
Parked at car park at canal side. Followed towpath a short distance then over a stile onto a path heading left. Round the first slope the path turns right up the steepish slope to a plateau from which you can choose from a variety of routes to the top. Followed a different set of paths down to emerge between large tree trunks opposite the car parkJubilado01/02/2018

Parked near the entrance to Philpstoun Bing South. Then across the canal bridge bagging its cut mark then down and round to towpath then up Philpstoun Bing North. A fine view point even on a damp grey afternoon. Return to car then bagged Philpstoun Bing South.Dugswell216/09/2017
Chaotic spoil heaps from former oil shale works. Scope for planning a small but testing orienteering event here- with tricky route choices on the semi mobile steep sided slopes - up and over , around,or slip sliding contouring . Only had time for this one bing as airport check in not to be missed.Chris Pearson07/06/2017
Dodged the motorbikes and started a small summit cairn for future baggers.summitter05/03/2017

From E, canal car park, cross road to path which contours past a couple of bumps to grassy highpoint. Colourful bing scenery. Recompletes West Lothian for me.RHW12/12/2015
