From the skips at SJ 3138 4811. A stop-off on the return from a tour of Wirral P30s. | summitsup | 01/09/2023 |
As others past the skips, following track up and tried to pick easiest way steeply to top, back down easier track and then muddy track back to skips. | PeterD | 11/04/2022 |
Parked by gates alongside skips at SJ 3137 4810 - SW along track for about 80m to junction at SJ 3130 4807, turned right & a short climb up path to junction with track - Turned right & along track for about 250m to track junction on NE ridge at SJ 3134 4824 - Turned left & up ridge to high point on W. edge of spoil. The closure of Bersham Colliery in 1986 marked the end of mining on the North Wales coalfield which, at its peak, had almost 40 pits employing around 20,000 people. (S) | gerrybowes | 27/02/2022 |
On way back from Gyrn Moelfre - long overdue! Good viewpoint but very dull today. | JohnIvor | 25/01/2022 |
Parked in industrial estate to east where there is a preserved colliery winding gear. Steeply up through trees on MTB tracks (various options) to flat summit of bing with good views. HP NW corner; easier way down on NE corner. Grey day. Mine spoil. | Denise | 22/12/2021 |
As others, from the gate by skips on SE side. Lots of trails bike paths but all quiet today. Good views from top but somewhat on the murky grey side today. | RichardM | 22/12/2021 |
Carole Engel's route was helpful. The last approach to the summit plateau is quite trickily steep on the way down. An obvious slag heap with pit head winding gear still opposite. A contrast to Bryn y Hafod which has been landscaped and given topsoil and is now an SSSI. | clivevilla | 13/07/2021 |
From the obvious skips in a sleet shower. Didn't go straight up as seemed a bit easier form further round to left. | Mark Sims | 20/02/2020 |
From the skips. Tried to get through the spars of the gate but need to lose a few more kilos. Much as carole engele but went straight up towards the top. Quite enjoyed the steepness. | Campbell Singer | 24/10/2019 |
Up from skips to the east, the final scree section was slippery after recent shower. | cjo | 17/08/2019 |
W flank very steep and felt overlooked. Easier E end. Thru' skips SJ 3137 4812, track left, right SJ 3130 4807 and right again at junction SJ 3126 4808. Up feint path SJ 3133 4813 and up again at SJ 3130 4815. Left along ridge | carole engel | 20/11/2018 |
Wanted to do this hill since I was a child, always noticing it when driving into Wrexham, and noting what an unpleasant welcome to the town it offers! Quite intense walking up the steep face from the skips. There is an easier way round the back. Didn't spend long on top. With hoppy | tumpawumpa | 14/10/2018 |
little strole up sad to see the man at the top has been damaged | my-list | 27/06/2018 |
As others, parked near the Enterprise Centre, went past the two skips then straight up slippery slope. | Aye Jimmy | 26/11/2017 |
Stopped on way home from YHA Kington before the rain arrived after Flat Holm trip was cancelled. | Dugswell2 | 01/10/2017 |
Parked just over railway at side of entrance road to Plas Grono Farm. Gap in fencing by the skips, path takes you up to next level. Then made my way up direct to next level then again to top. Ok if you pick right lines but didn't fancy returning same way. From top going ENE main track takes you down easily, turn R then returns to point where path leads from first level to the skips. | Rob50 | 27/08/2017 |
From by the factories. Wide roadside. Security fencing all along but fp down old steps by railway and then motox tracks to top. What a shame some little twerp has ruined the iron man. | stig_nest | 11/05/2017 |
Direct ascent up east face. Crampons & axes would have been handy. Descended more easily, but circuitously, on a proper track. According to Wikipedia, planning permission for removal of this spoil heap has been granted. | ngthack | 21/02/2017 |
Useful car park at the Enterprise Centre (SJ315483). Entered site between two skips blocking gap in the fence. Steep climb, worth it for the views. Descent via less steep, meandering track to E. As RHW suggests. | Richard Gunn | 05/02/2017 |
Parking: Same as GordonAdshead at SJ 31375 48098. Accessed site by public footpath at SJ 31384 48018. There is a bit of vegetation on the summit plateau. | David Evans | 23/01/2017 |
First hill of the day, logged out of sequence. From E, gap in fence, track forking R then steep track R. Easiest way is track which soon goes sharp R then meanders to summit. Slopes vegetated but summit area is not, suggesting material being removed from time to time, with newish vehicle tracks on top. Wrexham recompleted. Also visited the SubTump Bryn-yr-Owen, from N, level arable summit at SJ 30084 47282, 157m GPS | RHW | 19/12/2015 |
Parked at SJ 31375 48098. Two of the sections of the 6 foot high perimeter fencing had been folded back and I just walked through, heading W up an obvious track line. | GordonAdshead | 11/12/2015 |
