Heavy rain all The way to the summit. Cold damp windy lunch huddled. Map compass and mobile mapping used to find the trig point. From Mast to Trig point and return took 1 hr 30 min. Awful. Wallowing through above knee deep hummocky tussocky heathery h e ll Visiblity 5 to 10 metres Had flash backs to summer m l navigation assessment. Today , I would not have passed Ginny Allwood Wet all the way through. Tough going. Looking at my Strava route , I made a right hash of the descent.VerySlowPlodder26/10/2023
From B6357 up track past Mountain View to mast. Seriously rough ground trying follow path shown on 1:50000 map. Better route back along NW side of fell, mostly on faint path, emerging on main track below mast. Rought after wall until rejoining track. KeithByTheC09/09/2023
Via Gill's cairn, which probably made it marginally less tedious.Wycombe Wanderer20/08/2023
Cycled from Mountain View track to mast. Then a lovely wade through marshmallow tussocks out to top and back. Fun freewheel to car!Stickman18/04/2023
1 of 2: From Mountain View entrance on B6357. Followed Gill's notes. With Karen.ChrisR11/04/2023
Forestry Road to mast. To be clear, gill's info is best, start from the old rough access to the mast, left side. Start of faint path there. Early part dodgy, once you hit the path which is faint but clear, you'll be OK. At worst aim for the cairns, as the R hand one is on the path, the single one. Nice enough views, not particularly memorable.Belfarm 16/09/2021
Easy walk from Dinlabyre on forest roads to the mast. Pretty unpleasant afterwards on heather and tussock grass to trig. Back same way. Lots of wild raspberries en route! With Sail & Alfie.Dangerous Dave09/08/2020
Parked at road end near Dinlabyre (9:10) and walked up track to mast. Short fairly pathless walk to gate roughly at nearest point of fence, then followed Gill's route to summit. Beautiful clear sunny day, excellent views. Finished 11:55dbb09/12/2019
Parked in layby 1km NE Dinlabyre. Long slog up forest road and daunting thrash across bog to topm0jla15/10/2019
A nice easy walk except for a few yards of rough stuff. Parked at the end of the Mountain View track, then up to the mast as per usual. A short rough descent to a dip. On the way out, I followed rough heather to a gate at the end of the wall which runs across the route. On the way back, I found a good deer track running through the obvious wide strip of grass on the mast side of the wall, much better than the heather, so there should only be 100m of rough stuff. Over the gate going towards the top, there's a soggy ATV track running through what looks like tussock grass but isn't. This develops into a good narrow path over a grassy knoll with a cairn. The path continues leftwards to a dip and up to a second bump with a cairn, then goes on to the summit across another dip.Gill24/08/2019
From Dinlabyre, P on minor road just beyond bridge. Up track through mostly tree fellings to mast. Very faint ATV track on across the soft tussocky heath to fenced up gate and intermittently over cairns to trig summit, faint but still made a difference. Next stop RHS AGM, wow the suspense, feels like I may need to stop for my first ever pint.Topographer5706/07/2019
Followed gerrybowes route from the mast which works well.Lionel Bidwell02/07/2019
Parked at Kielder Castle car park, after competing Sighty Crag cycled up to this one, or more exactly to the aerial then walked to trig. Good views west to Scotland, good to go through Border. Company: Soloiandesbottes19/05/2019
Parked just up Steele Road then usual track to mast. Picked up an ATV track of sorts to fence but then was cross country to cairn followed by sort of path to trig. Back to cairn then ATV track but it turned north so cross country to fence then as ascent.SS06/05/2019
From car park at top end of Kielder Water, using bike to get, via Bloody Bush, to the mast, then on foot. recorded route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2019/04/wednesday-24-april-larriston-fells.htmlGayle24/04/2019
With GN. Biked up past Mountainview to mast at point 482. Very hard going from there on foot to top. Mountainview owner told us about border crossing point at 571910 which was a roll point on the drove road. Very friendly and interesting person.trimarc227/03/2019
As per Mr. Bowes. With PM.CJM05/02/2019
Parked at 525916 on road junction. A fast walk to the mast via Mountain View. From there a faint track exists to a gate at the end of a wall. There is another faint track before and after the cairn. Well under 4 hour return with CM. The track before the mast is having a stone upgrade and the hardy men wanted someone to talk to!bolton05/02/2019
Parked at NY529921. Cycled up tracks past 'Mountain View' to mast on hill top. Continued on foot across horrendous tussocky, boggy, heathery sh1t to summit.raffemeister16/09/2018
Parked in junction at 525917 - NE along road for 650yd and then up track past Mountain View to mast - Faint intermittent ATV track to gate at 563918 and then faint trod over the 500m knoll and up to the cairn at 966920. From cairn, faint ATV track to trig point. (S)gerrybowes03/07/2018
Walked from Dinlabyre to mast then over rough ground to summit, more rough walking to Bloodybush toll pillar then back to Dinlabyre on old toll road.alanm927/06/2018
Parked on the Steele Road as many timber vehicles extracting timber down the Mountain View road. The worst part of this walk is the last 1k from mast to trig.NormanW24/04/2018
2/2 Marilyn for the day. From track start near Dinlabyre. Track past the house at Mountain View and up to the mast. Short but hard moorland ground to summit trig. Return same way.N.Morters29/07/2017
Parked at 537932. Walked up the forestry track to 551921 where it crosses the burn, then up the fire break. Lots of downed trees to negotiate, got frustrated, turned left at the next forestry track. Followed to its end, then headed up the next fire break. Got to the wall, then thick tussocky grass to the summit. Returned along the north east edge of the plantation. Had to skirt round an overgrown section lower down.Owen B17/04/2017
With Mora. From the B6375 at ny537931 (only room for 2 vehicles). Some fire breaks to open Moor blocked by fallen trees, the one ny550917 is OK. Easier access to hill along edge of new planting (not on maps yet) - storff burn.BLACKHILL13/04/2017
Parked off road along fence near forestry road entrance opposite Hewsbridge Cottage (NY 53690 93184). Straight forward up and down route to radio station near 482m spot height though did miss first firebreak above harvested part of plantation, then on to summit and trig pillar via 500m contour ring. No obvious path from radio station so descended following a track heading east from the trig pillar. Did not go in the direction required so cut NW through grassy hillside that had been prepared for tree planting by some massive dibber.mntainman19/01/2017
From forest carpark by Lewis Burn at NY 63549 89605. Poor hills.Alan Moore27/10/2016
Parked B6357 and long walk up forest track past Mountain View. Horrible ground from mast to summit.AndrewFinnimore13/07/2016
Exactly as Marktrengove 21/3/15. Found quad bike track from mast, which though intermittent, was a big help. 7.1 miles, 2 hrs 45 there and back.Crib Goch04/12/2015
dinlabyre good tracks most of the way apart from last 1km.robertphillips07/06/2015
Parked car near a gate on minor lane to Steele Road off B 6357 at NY 52793 92284 - room for 1-2 cars. Took forest track up past Mountain View to radio mast. A bit of an ATV track starts near the north side of the compound, keeping to the highest and driest ground to the summit. We took this on the descent. The ascent was further south-east and not recommended. Returned by outward route from radio mast. With AT and JT on a cold but lovely day.Man of Kernow121/03/2015
From Dinlabyre via mast.Chris Peart23/11/2014
Dinlabyre route to mast, then to summit (keep left after mast). Extensive views.neimcv24/09/2014
from Dinlabyre road end. Pleasant walk. after Peel FellThearlaichdubh01/07/2014
Parked at pull in on minor road just beyond Dinlabyre Bridge. Track to mast then from left side of compound fence picked up old track to fence line, then upward towards Western most cairn, found another old track to the left of this keeping to the higher ground direct to the top.Anton17/06/2014
Lewisburn to Kielder. About 6.5 hours including Purdom Pikes.Smudge15/03/2014
As others before. Parked at Dinlabyre and followed track to mast on cool but dry day. Rain threatening. Faint lines to follow through difficult heather/moss baby heads. Views through mist interesting. 2.5 hr circuit. Not sure easy to drive up now Rob, unless 4x4.nordicstar26/10/2013

Came up from the Lewis Burn. Unpleasant heather for the last few hundred yards. Managed to pick up a bike track on the way back. Wet underfoot in places, especially the summit area.Walker Dan01/11/2011
Warm and dry afternoon for fast walk in from Dunlabyre with a slog across rough heather from the mast.Dugswell229/09/2011
Parked at start of track just N of Dinlabyre. Forest trails to mast, then heathery to trig.Aye Jimmy04/06/2011
Parked at NY529921 and followed forestry road to mast. Bit of a slog across rough heather in thick mist, but the steady cool breeze was behind me so not too laborious. Dropped down to Bloodybush Toll then back along drove road. 3.5 hour round trip.agentmancuso11/04/2011
Revisit. Damp tussocky heather moorland. Wet windy slog from mast to SW: all hail to anyone who links this with Foulmire Heights!RHW19/08/2007
Bike route! I parked at Keilder as it was easier to drive there. Head for the mast and park bike there. Then it's a short distance to Larriston Fell. Excellent fast bike ride back ;-)Jhimmy05/11/2006
Parked at Dinlabyre took forest tracks all the way to tha mast. From there it was a tyring bog hop to the top. Returned by the same route.garyhoney21/11/2004
