10-4 Sat & Sun. Very pleasant. Two roe deer, 2 brimstones and buzzards. | jimbloomer | 18/03/2023 |
Easy parking by Reserve entrance at 682284 - After checking in at security office, E. along road to Skylark Centre, over footbridge & clockwise up Red Route to summit. Excellent site with a fascinating recent history including the building of airships, PoW camp, ordnance depot & construction of UK's largest power station. | gerrybowes | 03/09/2022 |
Return visit to visit and photograph new summit. Now open every weekend between 10am and 4pm Signing in still required. | moorsman | 05/03/2022 |

Signed in at the entrance and followed red path towards viewing platform. Everywhere around looked higher until you move then everywhere else still looks higher. GPS gave the highest point just west of the platform. Really necessary to walk over whole top to be sure summit, if changed, won't require a revisit. Can comfortably manage the walk in under 30 minutes but well worthwhile exploring the area. | moorsman | 25/01/2020 |
15.20 finally at third attempt got into the Skylark nature reserve, when they were actually open, at Barlow Mound, Drax power station. Field of round hay bales on the top of this artificial hill and a field of Sheep on the way up. | vegibagger | 01/09/2019 |
Parked up for the night in Brayton then early morning 9.5 mile walk to bag this one. Came from the west through Barlow then had to scale a large barbed wire fence. Not recommended | The-Z-Man | 11/04/2019 |
2nd tump of the day, after Hatfield Colliery. Parked up at the Village circle just outside the Nature Centre entrance. Signed in and then took route up to the top as per grid reference stated, then ventured into the grassy area, all very level plus explored the meadow to the North. Returned on a loop, signed out. Very hot day! Next: Gale Common... | Dazingdale | 05/08/2018 |
Dry walk around red route wearing wellies which where great for the very muddy initial woodland start to the walk. A very interesting spot.. | Dugswell2 | 08/04/2018 |
Signed in. Followed red route. Summit, then went to ash disposal viewing platform with magnificent view of Drax. Mostly burning biomass apparently. Signed out. | ngthack | 14/01/2018 |
Should have read AJ's note. Arrived at 0945 and waited nervously outside locked gates with sign saying - Opening Sat 3rd Jan. (Sat was the 6th) Got in at 1115. | GordonAdshead | 06/01/2018 |
Quite a unique experience. Signed in and was given the little map card. No dogs. No bikes. Highest point could be anywhere. Saw plenty of wildlife including Roe Deer and a Great Spotted Woodpecker. A great place for a family walk. Good toilet facilities too! Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 26/11/2017 |
Site entrance SE652284. Follow Red Route right to the top | carole engel | 25/11/2017 |
First time I've had to sign in and out for a Tump. Only third visitor of the day at 1PM. interesting enough spot but almost impossible to identify top. | Bramley | 16/09/2017 |
Tump under construction. Has a very level summit area (using hand level it's all about same level, so provided they keep up the same standard of level control, the summit won't move (unless one feels the need to redefine the centroid) | RHW | 03/09/2017 |
From E end of Barlow village, car park by gate to 'Skylark Centre and Nature Reserve'. Free but need to sign in (Drax H&S regs.) at office by gate. Given small plastic map of walks, returnable when leaving. Even have their own 'Wildlife Ambulance'! Summit area very flat, extensive, trees blocking line of sight, not sure of highest point. Opening: Every weekend 11.00am - 4.00pm (unless pre-arranged). | Aye Jimmy | 09/07/2017 |
