As others, parked in layby next to Newnham Windmill - odd to climb a hill not just from a point higher than the summit, but from the summit of another Tump. Then across to Fox Hill over a strange landscape - gates and stiles (almost) everywhere you need them, well manicured hedges, but not a sheep or cow in sight and long grass in all the fields. For easiest route, head WSW not NW from the windmill. Fox Hill a pleasingly open summit with a view towards Birmingham. 1.2 miles, 80m climb, 35 mins.Mark Jackson22/08/2023
As Chris Pearson from the Windmill I ignored stile into wood and took the gate into the field using the faded waymark arrow on gatepost. Headed SW to another gate then through double gates and up to the hill. Back out similar way to the road and back to the car by Borough hill. Fields empty of sheep but was a farmer about.Buck29/04/2023
easy walk from minor road to east. There are handy stiles if taking the first gate on right after the by-pass. Nice little hilltrimarc220/04/2023

From lay by with opening into windmill field. Went out and back different ways as wasn't sure where the permissives were. Sheep city.Mark Sims08/04/2022
Newnham Hill 201m P44 and Fox Hill 194 P31, in a hail storm (glad I wear spectacles, as eye protection). If only all landowners were so accommodating, with strategically placed gates and stiles.Martin R24/02/2022
1 of 2 newly discovered Northants Tumps conveniently located on the line of my Cumbria to Sussex drive by using the historical A5 for the first time. Jaw-dropping sight in passing of the new colossal sized warehouses and expansion of DIRFT (Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal) being at the heart of mainland Britain distribution and manufacturing and with rail links to ports and Europe via Channel tunnel -to reduce lorry nos. (and shortage of drivers) & cheaper. The mention by other users of Natural England promoting walks over this hill with pdf maps seems to have disappeared from the web. On the ground from windmill -ignore stile into wood but take adjacent gate on right into field -downhill to field gate at bottom left where faded waymark arrow is on gatepost. Head level SW to another gate then W through double gates connected by a clever shared chain weight to ensure they both swing shut. Up field to top. Then reverse. Sheep in most of the fields.Chris Pearson19/11/2021

After Newnham Hill.PGCE09/11/2020
Used same dirt layby as for Newnham Hill. Down past windmill, stile, gates, sheepy field then up to Fox Hill. Nice pastoral feel about it all, yet so close to town.Aye Jimmy04/11/2020
From windmill, short walk on permissive paths.rhalstead04/10/2020
Parked at layby on top of Newnham to Daventry road, to windmill (2nd visit) then followed routes shown on permissive access map, all gates shown present and correct. Gave a pleasant short walk.pwheeler27/08/2020
Small dirt layby 100m SE of entrance for windmill (SP 5763 6091). From the windmill it's a case of make it up as you go along. Nice sheep pasture with good views.jonglew16/07/2020
From windmill lay-by, past windmill into woods via stile, downhill to corner of woods then across fields on PRoW to top. Wood could have been avoided by going straight across Newnham Hill And down.PeterD02/07/2020
Started from the lay-by next to the windmill and took a convoluted route zig zagging through pastures and through several gates. Pleasant top. Returned through the fields going due east direct to the road at the bridge and then up the roadhouse the lay-by. Better route on return. Northamptonshire completed yet again.Campbell Singer19/06/2020
Ascended from the parking space at the top of Newnham Hill, with the help of the Google map, showing the permissive access. There was once a permissive carpark just above the bridge crossing the by-pass, but it was closed and the gates locked due to anti-social behaviour. Fortunately the permissive gates remain and are maintained by the farmer who I met at the last crossing point. He seemed very considerate and apparently interested in conservation.JohnW14/06/2020
A solo drive-by on a mild cloudy late afternoon. Parked near the bridge over Daventry bypass on the minor road to the east. Walked up to the derelict windmill then followed fences and hedges past several small copses; the gates were chained shut. Finally made it to the pleasant domed summit in a sheep pasture. Decent wide views to south. PDF map: http://cwr.naturalengland.org.uk/mapboards/pdfs/AG00224997.pdfSkip10/06/2020

From small lay-by on road to East near top of Newnham Hill. Nice stroll all in meadows on a cool, breezy but partly sunny June day.KC05/06/2020
From Windmill. Great little hill. Thanks for google tip to see the Natural England map showing all the gates and stiles (all different designs) Interesting that this map says - Access End Date 31/10/2016GordonAdshead04/06/2020
Northants re-completion. Visited after exploring High wood Wildlife trust site with Lesely. I parked up at 152m spot at A361 Jct with minor lane. Leseley waited while I walked up lane to gate then used edge of field to gate then edge of field to another gate with track leading to lush field and then via permissive swing gate at the top to enable acess to summit. Field Ssw is full of wildflowers such as Yellow rattle. Return as outward route.Dazingdale24/05/2020
Lots of sheep, and a single fox. A google for fox hill permissive paths daventry will get you a PDF map courtesy of Natural England. Beware the gate into to the woods next to the final gate to the summit - no exit at the bottomjohnkenyon17/05/2020
From E, layby, intricate stiled and gated permissive route via windmill and wood, gorgeous sunny morning. Level pasture summit.RHW15/05/2020
Parking on the minor road to the east.andrew brown16/04/2020
From the layby for the Windmill, over a stile in the hedge then another one in to a woods with no path before picking up the path in the next field. Quite a nice hill.clivevilla03/03/2020
