A Nine mile horseshoe walk from the Hydro carpark taking in ten tops Caher west, Caher, Carrauntoohil, Na Cnamha, Beenkeragh, Knockbrinnea East, Knockbrinnea west, Stumpa Barr na hAbhann, Skregmore, and Cnoc lochtair, the day took Eight hours. The ridge inbetween Carrauntoohil and Beenkeragh is best done on a calm dry day when it should pose no problems. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 03/09/2023 |
OMC (unofficial) trip to Ireland:
Parked at Breanlee, with Ian McCabe, Richard Moore, Nicky Creadland & Tricia Teeling, we hiked up the hydro track to Lough Lochtair.

Then we followed a path up the shoulder and on to the summit of Cnoc Lochtair, then along the ridge over Skregmore and up to Beenkeragh. The bones ridge was no where near as bad as the Jim Ryan guidebook (Collins Press) described. We ascended Bone Peak without difficulty, from there involved an interesting scramble around to the tops of gullies, then up to Carrauntoohil.
The descent and ascent up to Caher was fine, with a bearable noticeable drop before the Caher West Top.
Descending down to the NW shoulder of the West Top was slow and the steep section of the hydro road was horrible.
Showers throughout the day but long periods of good views, 08:35hrs all in. | chillyman8 | 17/07/2023 |

From the hydro car park, anticlockwise after an aborted attempt at the horseshoe yesterday. Much better conditions today with stunning views: Caher West Top, Caher and Carrauntoohil. Decent via O'Shea's gully and a lift to our car with a pair of kind fellow hikers! | Lazylizzie | 30/10/2021 |

Breanlee- Lough Eagher then via the NW top and a splendid narrow arête to Caher. I was bagging 'Irish Munros' to compleat The Furth on this trip. A brief good weather window after a morning of rain gave the opportunity to do this one- a magnificent spot but not revisit Carrauntoohil. Instead I returned via Curraghmore and Lack Road- still a good walk. | pwheeler | 22/05/2011 |
