f/a, s/a for malign bui, croc na peiste, the big gun, & cruach mhor, 2 in party, hot & sunny with a breeze, 8hrs approx, 14 km approx. another sunny day, from cronins yard, track then path (priests path?) up onto the shoulder & croc na toinne. along the ridge taking in the tops, good ridge walk, from croc na peiste there is some good scrambling, ridge narrows with some scrambling, choice of a short wet descent to north and reascent back to the ridge or a short step in the ridge. from the big gun, turn the over hang by a steep descent on a path, first large block can be turned by a short descent of a damp tight corner on the east side, clambering around its base to regain the ridge. either take to the crest with several steep down climbs or take a faint path on the west side. this ridge is best tackled coming from cruach mhor rather than from the big gun, this gives the option of tackling the short vertical sections or avoiding them, rather than suddenly arriving at the top of them. desrum doodle 08/04/2015

Marvellous exposed scrambling from Cnoc na Peiste. A shark's fin ridge was evident from that summit, and keeping to it was engrossing. Then route finding, with scrambling on or amongst exposed (one very exposed but with comforting jug holds) slabs took me to 20m. below this summit to finish on the ridge leading up from Dunloe. Glad of good visibility. A dramatic route but never exceeding Grade 1 scrambling.pwheeler24/05/2011

Excellent traverse of Cnoc na Toinne, Cnoc an Chuillin, Maolan Bui, Knocknapeasta, An Gunna Mor, Cruach Mhor - the scramble over An Gunna Mhor was the highlight. Solo. From Carrauntoohil Youth Hostel. After Cruach Mhor I went along the ridge of Macgillycuddy's Reeks. This is at first a rocky scramble passing over Bearna Rua (3159') and Knocknapeasta (3190'). Continued to Caher and Carrauntoohil before descending to the youth hostel. Time: 7hr 50min. The weather was good. It was misty on and off on the summits.pwbellarby14/06/1987
