With NB. Standard route from Newcastle. Thundery morning showers gave way to extremely humid, warm conditions with cloud at 500m, which broke up close to the summit giving fine but hazy views. Very busy. Mostly excellent path. Managed to buy an OSNI 1:25,000 map from the outdoor shop on the sea front very close to the car park.Owen B29/06/2019
Lovely walk up Glen River from Newcastle with Geraldine. Woodland and falls at first, then open moor between mountains. Mourne Wall offered constant shelter from brisk southerly. Cloud down, but views back toward Newcastle on way up. Went on to adjacent peak to make circular return.Pete West06/06/2019

Solo. From Newcastle using the standard route beside Glen River to col between Slieve Commedach and Slieve Donard and then beside the Mourne Wall. The lower section through the forest, where the river comes down in a series of cascades, is a delight. About 150 others making the ascent.pwbellarby10/07/2017
10.5 mile walk in windy/sunny/overcast weather. Started at Bloody Bridge followed well defined path along Bloody Bridge River up to the Mourne Wall, from there slogged up to summit of Slieve Donard, busy on top, good views over most of Northern Ireland stretching far to Belfast, Strangford Lough, Lough Neagh and the Sperrins, also could see some of Ireland as well as the Isle of Man and maybe even Wales. Descended west from summit and climbed onto Slieve Commedagh (a lot less busier), descended the same way and followed Brandy Pad path back to Bog of Donard, climbed little trails onto Chimney Rock Mountain, descended to Bloody Bridge River and went down the same way back to car park. This was the last UK top I needed after completing Snowdon in 2008, Ben Nevis in 2014 and Scafell Pike back in March this year.DanTrig25/06/2017
feeling very tired today. slept in Newcastle by the sea on a layby feeling the last few days. Beautiful start to the walk through a pine forest up a stunning waterfall. hard last push to the cloudy windy summit. this one completed my set so was very happy.Scotty 2 Hotty21/06/2017

Slieve Donard from Bloody Bridge car park. Very boggy in places and snow blizzard at the top.Cicatrice22/03/2017
Overcast day, 4c, no rain. Started from Donard park, only a couple of other walkers on the trail. Was icy going up towards the saddle, and compacted ice on the path for the last 1000 feet. Hopped over the wall and went up the other side. Snowing at the top. Took some photos, sheltered in the small hut, had something to eat and headed down. Lovely hike, not too challenging.davenicoll10/02/2017

2nd ascent of this hill in two days, previous with my daughter. This was my 14th hill on the epic Mourne wall challenge but this time in glorious evening sunlight. The view from the flanks of Slieve Commedagh was fantastic. I stopped at the col to talk to a family who said there was a guy running up and down Slieve Donard from Donard park 12 times consecutively!! The slog up Donard hurted but the descent was slower and steeper than i expected and the walk back to Carrick little took a few more hours. I actually walked on top of the wall for the last 1.5 miles (in order to avoid the boggy ground) which was exhilarating.Dazingdale22/07/2015
Walked with daughter up the Glen River path from the Donard Park car park. Beautiful views and weather until the col at the Mourne wall was reached; ascent to the summit along the wall was undertaken in Mist. Descent bk to colwhere daughter built a mini Zen like cairn. Raven spotted on the wall.Descent same as ascent in the rain.Dazingdale21/07/2015
Went up for my Dads 60th birthday, he's now walked all 5 highest tops in the British Isles (well done him!), also with sister and mum in tow! Started off nicely from Newcastle and up via the forest, headed up into cloud and only got glimpses of a spectacular view you'd expect on a clear day. Needless to say it did clear as we reached the bottom of the mountain...... but an enjoyable all round walk, with some steep sections!Tor worth it30/06/2015
Finally got round to going to Northern Ireland. Up the main tourist route from Newcastle.PeterD30/06/2015

Started on the beach at Newcastle, to climb from utter sea level. Straight up the Glen River path (an easy route though rugged) to the saddle and then the long haul to the summit. (I climbed Slieve Commedagh too from the saddle.)AlexanderHoward23/08/2014
