From car park at road-end at Bwlch y Ddeufaen. Solo. Past the two standing stones and on path on NW and N sides of walls to Foel Lwyd. Continued on path towards Tal y Fan. At col crossed stile to E side of wall where OS 1:25,000 map shows path. Reached trig point and stood on rock close-by, which is the highest point. Crossed stile to the other side of wall and used path on this side of wall to descend to col - it's slightly easier on this side of the wall. Followed outward route back to car park. Good weather and good views.pwbellarby14/04/2018

Foel Lwyd and Tal y Fan from the little road head car park near the col. Plenty of stiles near the col to gain access to the better track on the seaward side of the wall. A collapsed wall section gives access to the summit of Foel Lwyd via a slight doubling back. A stile leads to the summit of Tal y Fan. This is the better viewpoint, looking over the Great Orme, Menai Strait, Puffin Island and Anglesey.Nick Down110/06/2017

A place full of ancient remains.briandavies08/04/2017
A nice walk from Nant-y-Coed Nature reserve, with a disgracefully late start. Good path then off piste ASAP direct to Foel Lwyd up a nice grassy cwm, and a good path along the wall to Tal y Fan, with little rock steps here and there. Very wet and very windy, with a bit of horizontal sleet for good measure. Back to the col, and an instruments only descent across the moor. Good path to the path junction (cairn), ATV tracks for a while, then pathless to the crash site below Moelfre. The fog cleared to a glorious sunset and fine sea views. This was very welcome, as there was no need to slavishly follow the bearing through the middle of the bogs. North Wales path back to the start.Gill16/03/2017

Estimated date is correct to one day either side. Did this while on a circular walk to see the ancient monuments in the area. I parked above Rowen, close to the YHA, and walked WSW following the standing stones, circles and cromlechs to Bwlch y Ddeufaen. From there I followed a stone wall NE over Foel Lwyd to get to the path N through marshland to the cairns, stones and circle ('Druid's Circle') above Penmaenmawr. Xmas trip, solo richardsun24/12/2006
I think I will always remember every step of this final Welsh summit. Dad was there when I climbed the first one, more than 29 years ago, and he was with me for the last one as well. I had long known that Tal y Fan would be the one to round off the journey – an easy low hill (though it turned out to be trickier than I had envisaged), the most northerly in Wales and the potential for good views over the Irish Sea. We left the car on the lane by Cae Coch and strolled up the grassy gentle path with the ridge invitingly ahead. After a couple of stiles we turned right for the summit, by now only a few hundred yards away. But we were faced with some scrambling up and down rocks. I was worried about Dad at this stage but he managed it without any difficulties. Finally, in a moment to savour, the trig point emerged above a lip of rock and within minutes we were there.peter4lc20/12/2006

Easter Sunday. Age 17. My 1st solo mountain over 2000 feet (and only my 2nd 2000 foot peak after Pike o Blisco on a school trip). 1st trig pillar. Walked 18 miles in new walking boots from a family holiday in our caravan at Llandudno junction first over Conway Mountain using my newly learnt map reading and compass skills from doing the D of E Award. Snow patches on top. Ate marmalade sandwiches. Deserted. Lost paths in maze of fields on descent -fence/wall climbing. 2nd ascent a month later extending to Foel Fras.Chris Pearson06/04/1980
