Started by the gated track a mile past the old quarry where I parked as well. Walked up to the lake, up the steep ridge of Y Castell by which point the clouds where piling in. Followed track over two fences, up to summit ridge in poor visibility and to the summit. Memorial to US airmen of a flying fortress that crashed on the mountain is at the summit cairn. Superb mountain to climb and really quiet, saw more sheep than people on the day.giant_hiker19/05/2019
From Arenig Quarry SH83236 37726 via Moel Llechwedd, then onto Arenig Fawr South Top, Arenig Fawr South Ridge Top, & Cerreg y Diocyn. Return via Llyn Arenig Fawr.Westdenewalker04/05/2019
Parked at wasteland carpark opposite quarry.. Headed east along road until landrover track head south west, followed path all the way around Llyn Arenig Fawr and up to the top. Bagged south peak on return, then down into valley to pick up path that took me past ruined farm and waterfalls. Fantastic little circular on a clear day.RyParks30/03/2019

Parked north of quarry, headed straight up. Paid respects to airmen and enjoyed a cloudless sky and the views. Company: Soloiandesbottes22/02/2019
Clogwyn Du, Arenig Fawr, Arenig Fawr South Top, Arenig Fawr South Ridge Top, Moel Llyfnant, Foel Boeth, Gallt y Daren, Bwlch y Bi, Moel y Slates, Clowyn Du. Sunny, but windy.Winterfloodian15/02/2019
Solo. From minor road to the north. Parked at junction with dismantled railway. Old railway to sheepfolds then path south. At wall near Nant Goch followed wall uphill on path (faint in places). Wall/fence can be followed to its end where the remains of the demolished wall and the occasional fence post can be followed to summit. Snow on summit and dense low cloud. Descended and looked back at summit to see it cloud free in sunshine (how often this happens). Must return in better weather.mike.hoult29/10/2018
P opposite large Quarry to N of Arenig Fawr. Headed W then N along a good track passing a small quarry - path then turns nasty for a wile but soon becomes a good green track up to col. Visited Moel Llyfnant first then return to col & on to Arenig Fawr S ridge top & S top, then Arenig Fawr herself. Arenig tops quite nice. Return roughly N then W to join outward path passing little quarry.ger28/09/2018
Parked on car park to old Quarry by Clogwyn Du - rose through quarry levels - across Daear fawr - following top of cliff (eastwards) onto Simdde Ddu summit - Arenig Fawr summit and trig - descended to Carreg Y Diocyn - circled plateau - dropped onto valley west side then track via Amnodd Wen and Waun Goch back to Clogwyn Du.briandavies27/09/2018
From sizeable Quarry cp with JA. Full of a stinking cold. Usual route up. Had it my head I had descended via Simdde Ddu to the right of pt 697m previously... that will be a no. Its very rough pathless holey heathery and minging! Reaching the top of the quarry track was a relief.stig_nest15/09/2018
Walked route 6.1 from the Nuttall's book but in reverse order as it was wet wet wet in the morning and I was hoping the clouds might clear by the time I got to Arenig Fawr (didn't really work). Pretty wet underground. Gallt y Daren, Foel Boeth, Moel Llyfnant and the 3 Arenig Fawr tops. Walked past South Ridge Top and had to go back (rookie mistake).tsharp09/09/2018
Moel Llyfnant, Foel Ystrodur Fawr, Foel Boeth, Moel Ymenyn, Arenig Fawr South Ridge Top, Carreg y Diocyn,Arenig Fawr South Top, Arenig Fawr and Moel Llechwedd. Another glorious dayAlunrees3303/07/2018

From Blaenlliw via Llyfnant. Crowd on summit and south ridge suggests that most approach these hills from the north, probably rightly as the road to the south is gate infested with poor parking. An impressive hill and a nice warm breeze on what was a hot day in the valleys.Topographer5706/05/2018

Why is this not in The Trail 100 when Arenig Fach is ? From minor road to NE and around LlynMark Sims04/08/2017
Parked on minor road to north where it crosses disused railway. Followed track on S side of railway to sheepfold, then path, very wet in places to the wall. Steeply up this then fence as guide to summit. Onwards to Moel Llyfnant.Minto12/06/2017

Arenig Fawr, Arenig Fawr South Top & South Ridge Tops, Moel Llyfnant from Pont Rhys-y-Fen. Followed Nuttall route as far as Moel Llyfnant then along fence down North ridge back to disused railway and return to road. Beautiful day with blue sky, frozen ground, cloud inversion. Arenig Fawr is one of Wales's hidden gems .... a big rugged mountain with views encompassing most of North and Mid Wales. Highly recommend ... walked solo but saw no-one all day until I summited Moel Llyfnant.jamessteel10026/11/2016

Solo from old rail track to N, over Moel Llechwedd first, then on to the other Nuttalls (and xN's) in the group. Wet, windy and cold. Heavy overnight snow will see top 200m of this mountain white tomorrow; but for today, it's just wet!jonglew04/11/2016
From north top. One of the best Welsh mountains I've climbed to date and certainly the best for miles around. Too hazy for good views but relatively flat farmland to the east looks incongruous. On to south top.Wycombe Wanderer15/09/2016
Nice monument to the fallen airmen on the summit.simocity04/09/2016

with Alastair and Sarah. Driving rain and wind combined with low visibility began as we left the summit shelter after the activation. Good nav skills used so no problem finding the fence and wall line to descend towards Amnodd Wen.M0YDH11/07/2015
With Jenx from north on minor road just over bridge at end of old railway line. Headed pretty much dorect up hill after short stretch of track to sheepfold. Picked up wall line to go over Arennig Fawr and tops. Dropped down to col and steep pull up to Moel Llyfnant. Back to start via NE ridge pastd farms and FP to railway line.nordicstar10/07/2015

Loosely followed the Nuttalls Arenig Fawr route with a few additions.rhalstead17/03/2014
From the northeast via the reservoir with friend. Hillfog and gusting rain made for a less then pleasant climb. No views. The bronze age cairn has been completely trashed, but the Flying Fortress memorial is poignant. Descent by a rather freestyle route north of the reservoir.thesweetcheat07/12/2013
