7.7 mile out-and-back from Graigddu-Isaf car park east. We followed well waymarked paths to Bwlch Drws-Ardudwy then ascended north-east pathless flanks to summit. Very rough through heather and rocks until we joined the path on the last part of the ascent. The Weather on top wasn't in our favour today; as soon as we got to the top the summit went into cloud with only slight glimpses of the view south and east. Descended the same way but detoured to see the pretty Pistyll Gwyn in the forest on way back. 594m ascent.DanTrig08/07/2022

Started from the end of the minor road leading to Nantcol where a £3 fee is payable to the farmer. A Eleven mile route taking in Rhinog Fawr, Rhinog Fach, Y Llethr, Crib y rhiw, Diffwys and its west top, the first four miles is very tough taking us about four hours but once over Y Llethr it becomes easier with grass slopes and finishing in Eight hours total.WAYNE ROWLETT14/05/2022

parked on roadside before Cil-chychwyn. walked through Cwm Nantcol up path to Bwlch Drws-Ardudwy. turned right past Llyn Cwmhosan, then left up to ridge at top. Decent to Llyn Hywel was mainly on backsides down boulder field. Return to start via Llyn Perfeddau and disused tip. Lovely, brilliant walk.gbeniston22/03/2022
Parked at the end of the road at Cwm Nantcol (£3 donation to the farmer). Followed the track to the stile N of Llyn Cwmhosan, crossed the stile and up to the little Llyn. Dropped down beyond, and missed the path going off left above the gully, regaining the path later. On to where a cairn marks the path ascending the hill, and doubling back to the N end of the ridge. Continued along the ridge to the summit cairn. Descended along the wall to a stile, again missing the path amongst boulders, eventually regaining the path above Llyn Hywel. Good path descending to the Llyn, and back as we'd come.LizH06/03/2022

From the cairn on the summit of Bwlch Drws-Ardudwy, extremely steep start, became a pleasant clear path higher uo, visited north top before main summit. Staight up very steeply from cairn at top of Bwlch Drws Ardudwy . Followed by herd of mountain goats who stopped every time I did like in a game. Don't know what they wanted but they gave up the chase after a while. Still tough but much easier on a path than Fawr earlier. Over 6 hours to do the two hills- very slow going.Mark Sims01/09/2017

Rhinog Fawr, Rhinog Fach, Y Llethr, Crib-y-rhiw, Diffws, Diffws West Top. Followed route in Nuttall's book. Couldn't find anyone at the farm so I left £2 parking fee in the porch. Weather had closed in by the end and it was a long day, made the mistake of following the bridleway at GR634240 on the map instead of getting The Nuttalls book out of my rucksack! Should have turned off at GR 640242 and headed for the gate at GR637246.tsharp07/06/2017

From Cwm Nantcol, up to Bwlch Drws-Ardudwy (Cairn at top of pass), then S up extremely steep but OK small path through thick heather. (Finding this narrow path is essential, easily seen from the cairn, but nowhere else. Followed tracks of a wild mountain goat, so this is the only way!!) Continuing clear path swings around to ascend N Top from NE. Clear path on summit ridge to true summit at S end. Descent by the S side of the wall on a safe zig zag path through scree to a ladder stile. Then a quite exposed, but safe descent around crags and scree above Llyn Hywel. (I think this was on the W side of the wall that goes S? Whilst scenic in the extreme, there may be an easier path on the E side of wall?) Drop down a rock and scree free patch to lake shore, then over big boulder scree on E side of lake (easier than it looks). Return NNW on paths through thick heather just W of Llyn Cwmhosen to rejoin Bwlch path at SW most stile. Marshy in places on Bwlch path requires careful footwork.Nick Caunt15/08/2015

Low cloud visibility down to 30m rain on and off very strong winds. Parked in Cwm Nantcol near Pont Cerrig. Dropped down to Bwlch Drws-Ardudwy and back to the car. 19 km 1217m of ascent..didn't see a thing so will have to do it again in better weather.axe.stephen03/05/2015

From Cae Gwyn campsite, mostly on forest tracks until Bwlch Drws Ardudwy. Couldn'f find the path up so initially heavy-going through heather until came across the small path two thirds of the way up. Fantastic views on the top and coming down by Llyn Hywel and Llyn y Bi. Climbed along with Y Llethr. Heavy Ice underfood. Llyn Cwmhosan frozen over. The number of logged climbs for Rhinog Fach says it all - fantastic place; we saw no one!huwthomas23/12/2007
one of the hidden gems of snowdonia, quiet, rugged and well worth a visit. we completed fach with fawr there is a tricky faint path which snakes between the two. for those with a sense of adventure.stig_nest25/08/2007

The Rhinogs have the reputation of holding some of the roughest walking in all of Wales, consisting of loose rock and ankle-twisting heather, and the descent on the south face of Rhinog Fawr was quite possibly the hardest I have ever done. Every step had to be carefully taken – though there was no exposure, an ankle could easily have been broken with less care. This went on for maybe 1,000 feet and was followed by a section jumping between huge boulders. Finally it was deep heather and we arrived at the Bwlch for a late lunch. The ascent of Rhinog Fach was again demanding, though the first view of Llyn Hywel nestling between the slopes is enchanting. Two of the group climbed the precarious boulders to join the south ridge higher up; the rest of us picked our way close to the shore and then made our way up loose ground to the summit, from where Ireland was visible.peter4lc28/08/2004

In the early 1990s before I had even heard of Simms I did my own personal challenge of all the 600m peaks in Wales. I have a record of the summits but not the dates so I have selected this arbitrary date within the period for them all. Some I missed but this was one I did.dickscroop01/07/1994

Llyn Cwmbechan- Roman Steps- Bwlch Drws Arddudwy- Llyn Cwmhosan- Rhinog Fach- Y Llethr- Cwm Nantcol- Llanbedr. If this seems an odd route, doing Rhinog Fawr as well would have been too much; pre-car and mobile phone I had to return to Llanbedr. A lot of this was pre-path, too in the '70s, the country felt very wild- I'd never been anywhere like it. Fantastic rocky summit ridge on an excellent clear day with lots of sunshine.pwheeler15/04/1977
