What is it about destroyed trig points in this area? Never seen just the foundation remaining before and this is the 2nd today after Manod Mawr. Summit appears to be grassy area just off to the north.SteveSmith11/10/2016
Continuation of walk from Moel Farlwyd. Steep descent and ascent but no problems. Great views. With JT.Sprog09/10/2016
Nuttalls walk - very boggy and hard going. From this top to Foel-fras there is a decent pathjohnjennison02/10/2016
From Moel Farlwyd. My favourite bit was the peaceful bwlch/llyn but the dark cloud and late afternoon sun over Allt Fawr gave the walk some atmosphere. Last hill of four day trip. Paused on the descent to drink in the beauty nature and give thanks.Wycombe Wanderer17/09/2016

Solo. Wet and Windy. Too Windy to stand upright on the summit. Worse weather was forecasted from midday so I knew I was not going to make all the days targets. Left with the wind behind me for Foel Fras.Aimless Rambler28/01/2016
Nuttall walk 5.4, solo on a dry bright day.Lou07/09/2014
Aimed to also do Manod Mawr, but rain set in hard and we looked at slate quarries instead.skeletonjo27/06/2014
From Blaenau Ffestiniog, a round of Manod Bach, Manod Mawr, NT, Foel-fras, Moel Penamnen, Moel Farlwyd and Moel Dyrnogydd.rhalstead21/03/2014
Done on a walk from Dolwyddelan to Blaenau. Was really looking forward to this as it's often caught my eye and looks very graceful from Tanygrisiau lake. Annoyingly, the cloud came and a heavy hail storm hit, so I beat a quick descent to Llannau Barlwyd.Jake99402/01/2014
Road into quarry from Blaenau Ffestiniog. Very windy.bolton10/12/2013

Clockwise circular round from Blaenau Ffestiniog. Garreg Ddu - Moel Farlwyd - Moel Penamnen - Foel Fras - Manod Mawr North Top - Manod Mawr - Manod Bach. The extremely large building in Maen-offeren Quarries is well worth a peek inside. It's like an industrial museum. The descent off Manod Mawr to the northern tip of Llyn y Manod is fairly ghastly!David Gradwell11/08/2013
SO MUCH FINE WEATHER AT BALA THAT HAD TIME TO DO ONE OF THE LLANRWST BASED WALKS, NUTTALLS WALK 5.4. DROVE TO BLAENAU FFESTINIOG AND WALKED UP THROUGH QUARRY. JOYCE TURNED BACK AT THE TOP AS MOORLAND CROSSING LOOKED PATHLESS AND BORING - WHICH IT WAS. EASY ASCENT OF MOEL PENAMNEN, THEN LONG AND BOGGY CROSSING TO MANOD MAWR N. TOP AND ROUND QUARRY TO MANOD MAWR. COULD'T FIND ROUTE OFF INCLINE SO HAD LONG WALK BACK THROUGH VILLAGE.BURGESS11/08/2013
Approached from Dolwyddelan heading ESE and S to Y Ro Wen. Good track hardly used. Boggy underfoot having left Y Ro Wen, good navigation would be needed in bad weather as track is faint heading SWS but on a good day the path is easily followed around the head of the forest up to Foel Fras and then Moel Penamnen. Walk off North into Cwm Penamnen. Good walk, nothing too hard. Fantastic views of whole of Snowdonia well worth the visit. No access problems or navigational problems but would be in bad weather due to remote location. Saw no one all day.Jimbo07/08/2013
As part of a circular walk of Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel Fras. Manod Mawr North Top, Manod Mawr and Manod Bach.JohnStoneham04/06/2013

From Blaenau Ffestiniog. Parts of Nuttall's path through the rhodedendrons are impassable. Didn't see anybody between leaving BF and the top and it was a Sunday with nice weather.clivevilla26/08/2012
Took Ffestiniog Railway from Porthmadog to Blaenau F and then walked up through the Maen Offeren quarry. Circular walk taking in Moel Farlwyd, Moel Penamnen, Foel Fras, the Manods Mawr and Manod Bach. Only just made the last train back but had a good beer to end the day.Herbert Anchovy29/05/2012

Nuttall walk 5.4. I wasn't looking forward to this I thought navigating through the quarries would be difficult but after following the track as described in book and using the incline, we soon found ourselves on the moor.SteveClay26/02/2011
climbed as part of route 5.4, last welsh peaks to bag, only took 10 yearsdianepick25/10/2010
In mist until coming off Moel Penamnen getting round in 4 hrs 35 min. Navigation was very strange and Google Earth revealed the extent to which the quarry has grown since the maps were surveyed. Good day - shame about the weather. Anti-clockwise circuit.SS10/10/2010
Following Nuttall's route from Blaenau. Visibility down to 30 meters at times. Fascinating quarry remains.huwthomas27/09/2010
1st ascent estimate above. Multiple ascents since, from W over Moel Farlwyd, and from SSW Manod Mawr and/or Bwlch Carreg y Frân, Cwm Teigl via Llynnoedd Bowydd and old quarry tramway. Last ascent was 03/04/2016 as part of Ffestiniog horseshoe circuit.Dewi Prysor05/06/2010
