From free parking area at Pont y Pandy bridge in Llanuwchllyn (SH 8798 2977). Good track all the way up. If looking at hills on Harold Street there are 10 along the ridge including the AF South Top beyond. Worth bagging them all.jonglew28/07/2023
After Glasgwm, with Peterb. Evident that walk between the two hills could be very wet but an effort being made to improve path. Great views to Cadair Idris and beyond. Descent via Drysgol, then good path down to valley and car park.bowlesy26/06/2023
After ascending Y Gribin and Glasgwm from the car park at Cywarch we continued on to Aran Fawddwy, to descend we went via Drysgol. A terrific ridge walk with fantastic views. With ChrisPeterb26/06/2023

Approached with dad and Dan across Drws Bach which reduces to a surprisingly narrow point with severe drops on both sides. Then up to the summit keeping as close as I dared in the strong winds to the edge of the huge eastern crag.cumbria mammoth28/10/2022

Aran range N-S. Beautiful day and an extremely picturesque range, the peace and calm only broken occasionally by the thunder of jets swooping over to perform aerobatics in close proximity.Barns15014/03/2022
Wet and foggy day to start. Climbed up here and walked the Aran Ridge. rescued 6 dogs on top which stopped me getting right to the top of the main mountain - got within 5m and the only reason I didn't make it to touch the cairn was trying to keep the pack togetherdavert12324/10/2021

1/3 With Glasgwm and Esgeiriau Gwynion. From Pandy after sleeping (not much) in van. Up ridge, over to Glasgwm, through the little door and down to 350m then back up to Bwylch Siddryn, nipped up Esgeiriau, road back to Pandy. Decent weather on ascent until ridge, then Fawddwy and Glasgwm clagged, cleared after that and breeze stiffened. Rounsfell12/07/2021

Nuttall's routes 8.1 and 8.3 combined plus a few extras - Pen-aran (at the end of the main ridge - a Bridge), Pen y Byn-fforchog North Top (a Bridge) and Y Gribin (a simm). 12 peaks - 29.93km - 5500 feet - took just under eleven hours (the GPS reckoned three hours were spent sitting on my backside!). Lovely sunny day until I got to Pen y Byn fforchog when the cloud descended and it began drizzling. Route through the forest was horrible.Herbert Anchovy31/07/2020

From the car park at the top of the valley north of Dinas Mawddwy. Steeply up towards Glasgwm but we didn’t bother with that so turned right at the top. Continued back via Drysgot and Waun Goch. Generally dry underfoot today but clearly could easily be quite soggy when the boards alongside the fence would be essential.Newton Maximus23/05/2019
10 mile walk from Cwm Croes, up Tir Gofal path from Nant-Y-Llyn farm to Llyn Lliwbran then climbed NW steeply onto the ridge, followed ridge onto Aran Benllyn, Erw Y Ddafad-Ddu and Aran Fawddwy (all bagged previously in 2011) then retraced steps to Erw Y Ddafad-Ddu and descended to Creiglyn Dyfi tarn, up easily onto Foel Hafod-Fynydd then diagonally onto Llechwedd Du, along ridge to Esgeiriau Gwynion, descended to Llechwedd Llyfn, then steep descent back to car in Cwm Croes, perfect sunny/breezy weather, good dry terrain, views from west Coast including the whole of Cardigan Bay to Shropshire. Saw 2 people all day. Later that day drove up to Bwlch Y Groes pass and bagged Foel Y Groes and Moel Y Cerrig Duon, great day.DanTrig15/05/2019
Long walk from Cwm Cywarch around Glasgwm, Waun Camddwr, Aran Fawddwy and Drysgol with Sue and Shelley. Just over 10 miles, 7 hours walking and 1300m of ascent. Didn't see another person all day, amazing day out. Ridiculously windy, positively dangerous on some exposed parts of Glasgwm and Aran Fawddwy. Great to return to the scene of the first date between Sue and I (16 years ago). View stupendous, as always.Cangarwbach13/04/2019

During a long weekend in Wales with J, Shaky & Smithy on a sunny but cold day. After bagging Glasgwm on a filthy day a few months earlier, this was a return bout on the Arans. Parked in the car park at the end of the road at Cwm Cywarch & followed RoW through the farm & up the steep cwm. Cut off the corner at the top heading due N to meet the fence & the quite boggy path which improves as it gains height. Great views W along the way & then from summit. Descended SE then E over narrowing ridge to Drysgol with great views again. Gradually dropped into the cwm via the path & back to the farm va the RoW. This is the best way to do the circuit of the cwm. A cracking walk & well worth the Trail 100 listing!NotReallyABagger30/09/2018

A note about trig point etiquette. Don't hang around standing on the base of the trig point trying to get a signal, checking your answer phone messages and making calls before hanging around even longer to take selfies when there are people around clearly waiting for a brief moment on the trig point who have been waiting longer than you. Very poor!tumpawumpa17/04/2017

Afternoon walk up from Llanuwchllyn and camped just below the summit. A mild, clear night with a light breeze to keep the midges at bay - perfect conditions. Quite a mountain this one, such height and relative isolation along with steep rocky slopes, it's one to savour and long for again. The views, from Shropshire to Llyn to Brecon, were also outstanding. Let the masses have Snowdon, let us have Fawddwy.Jake99415/08/2016

Climbed from Llanuwchllyn to Aran Fawddwy along ridge path, returning by same route and bagging Pen-Aran, Aran Benllyn and Erw y Ddafad-ddu along the way (5.5 hours). Superb cloudless warm late Spring day. Dry underfoot, though path looks like it could be boggy at times. Views stretching from Carneddau to Brecon Beacons, and from Lleyn Peninsula to the Shropshire Hills. Superb rugged mountain ridge - similar to Cader Idris minus the crowds. Despite being a Bank Holiday, saw nobody until I reached summit of Aran Fawddwy at 1.15pm!jamessteel10030/05/2016

Glorious 12th. Our penultimate Welsh County Top - Aran Fawddwy, Merioneth. Remote and fantastic. Sat in the car waiting for the rain to stop - and then just went for it anyway. We did get drenched a couple of times, but the skies cleared and the climb was one of the best with amazing views in all directions - an incredible variety of landscape and scenery. Little known Aran Fawddwy is almost due west from Loughborough and is the highest point in Britain that far south. It is a stunning peak with a plunging 1000ft drop to Creiglyn Dyfi, the Irish Sea away in the distance and lots of the peaks that we have climbed during 2015 in view. The two walkers whom we met at the top were the only people we encountered for the whole 7.5 miles. A bit different from Snowdon.callumorr12/09/2015

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY WITH GOOD VIEWS. FOLLOWED NUTTALLS WALK 8.1 UP THE STEEP GRASS ONTO PEN Y ALLT UCHAF, THEN EASILY OVER GWAUN LYDAN. A STIFF CLIMB ONTO ARAN FAWDDWY, THEN EASY RIDGE WALKING TO ERW Y DDAFAD DDU AND ARAN BENLLYN WITH GOOD VIEWS OVER BALA, RHINOGS AND ARENIGS. RETURNED AVOIDING SUMMITS TO DESCEND STEEPLY AND THEN OVER ROUGH GROUND TO GWAUN Y LLWYNI AND EASILY TO WAUN CAMDDWR. DECIDED TO TAG ON WALK 8.3 TO AVOID RE-ASCENT AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FINE WEATHER AND LONG JUNE DAYLIGHT. A VERY HARD CLIMB ONTO GLASGWM, THEN EASY RIDGE TO FINISH ON PEN Y BRYN FFORCHOG. HOWEVER, THE FOREST HAS BEEN FELLED AND IT WAS VERY TOUGH GOING TRYING TO FOLLOW THE PREVIOUS RIDES UNTIL THE EASY DESCENT OF THE ZIGZAG - 10.5 HOURS WALKING.BURGESS15/06/2015

On an epic Aran ridge traverse from Llanuwchylln to Dolgellau (15.5 miles), starting at Felindre Farm (i got as far as the A470 and got picked up by my hosts from the B&B Ty Seren as they wanted to get out). Part of a tough 23km, 1600m ascent loop of 7 Aran Hewitts from Cwm Cywarch. This one is terrific - rocky upper slopes close to a cliff-edge drop and views everywhere. The path north along the ridge is great, to the south boggier and less distinct.poppiesrara04/06/2011

Big horseshoe walk from Dinas Mawddwy. Unfortunately complete cloud cover at 700m.rbayfield30/01/2005
Parked almost at the end of the road running from Dinas Mawddwy through Cwm Cywarch. It was a steep and winding climb to the col between the Arans and Glasgwm. Many of the rocks were far more slippery than would be expected at this time of the year, mainly due no doubt to the heavy rain, and I was already apprehensive about the descent, which would be delightful in drier conditions. When the path finally levelled out and Aran Fawddwy came into view, I faced a two-mile trudge to the summit, much of it flat and across bog. The duckboards which had been helpfully placed there eased the passage, but even so some were underwater and slippery. In no time at all it was raining heavily, the temperature had plummeted and I seriously thought about turning back. The rain soon eased enough for me to make the summit, where the view was good, though Snowdon was still in cloud. Poucher’s book shows a concrete trig point but this may have been destroyed, as the one on the summit now is sandstone.peter4lc21/08/2004

First climbed from Talardd, today: via Llyn Lliwbran and Aran Benllyn, down via Drws Bach and Creigllyn Dyfi. Just 5.5h on a very warm, hazy day. I've got to know these mountains well, in winter they are as forgiving as any mountains above 2900 ft can be. Once walked all along the main ridge from Bala. Logs for the Marilyns reflect these different visits. This E side was supposed to be denied to walkers in 1987 but this denial of the best side of the Arans was already withering then, now there is good access, parking, and so many fine, wild ways up this wonderful range.pwheeler23/04/1987
