Cwm Cywarch - Glasgwm - Pen y Brynfforchog - Y GribinJHes06/05/2023
Up the old miner's track via Gesail from the car park in Cwm Cywarth to Y Gribin. Then along the ridge by the fence all the way to Foel Benddin. Back the same way. 10km with 800m ascent taking me 3h 30m.silveracorn_alan13/04/2023
Parked at 80229 17028 on the A470 and used the stile directly opposite the parking area to reach the summit of Pen Ochr y Bwlch, before heading for Y Gribin and Foel Benddin by way of Pen y Brynfforchog. I used the track to Pentrewern to reach the A470 but this route is not recommended as the track is private and the road has only a grass verge half way back to the car and results in a dangerous road walk up hill and around bends in the road.WAYNE ROWLETT25/02/2023
4/4 Circuit of the Western Arans on a very hot day. As per Nuttall book except we worked our way round the forest in South South East direction to access the forest track more easily after Pen y Brynnfforchog. Added in Y Gribin at the end (should have done the Dewey too but just toooooo blooming hot!)nickywood112/07/2022
Up the steep south ridge going NW towards Glascwm in clokwise cicuitvegibagger11/06/2022
Along a very pleasant ridge from Foel Benddin. Contiuned along fence to Glasgwm, steep path is not as intimidating as it first looks.Minto30/05/2022
10:15, 6 degrees at Cywarth (7 later), cloudbase lowering to 2000', westerlies. Walked up track (not shown on my 1984 edition map) which made the ascent easier than expected. Maesglase in view when I reached the bwlch but disappeared by the time I reached the summit. On to Gwaun y Llyni via Glasgym and Waun Camddwr.Wycombe Wanderer22/01/2022
From A470 along very good track past Pentrewern almost to the summit of Y Gribin. Then headed west on same track towards Pen y Brynfforchog Very straightforward on track which stops 100m or so still inside the trees but a small path continues to fence. But failed to find summit from there in cloud. I was using a downloaded map from the hillbagging site but on checking when I got home the line of the track on that is a good way south of that on my OS map. So I came out further north than I expected and found the north top (with no cairn or fence) rather than the main top. I will have to check on that when I go back to do it properly. Descent south to road straightforward on mainly easy ground when you get past the bracken section.dickscroop05/11/2021
Wet and foggy day to start. Climbed up here and walked the Aran Ridge. rescued 6 dogs on top which stopped me getting right to the top of the main mountain - got within 5m and the only reason I didn't make it to touch the cairn was trying to keep the pack togetherdavert12324/10/2021
From car park in Cwm Cywarch and ascended Cwm yr Ychen to Y Gribin and Foel Benddin, returned Same way.dgresty16/04/2021
Parked at the phonebox at Pentrewern. ROW to above Dolobran, then straight up from corner of track. On to Y Gribin, Pen y Brynfforchog (via track through forest) and Pen Ochr y Bwlch.PGCE13/08/2020
Parked in small car park in Cwm Cywarch. Beautiful day, very quiet.Claireb 08/08/2020
Nuttall's routes 8.1 and 8.3 combined plus a few extras - Pen-aran (at the end of the main ridge - a Bridge), Pen y Byn-fforchog North Top (a Bridge) and Y Gribin (a simm). 12 peaks - 29.93km - 5500 feet - took just under eleven hours (the GPS reckoned three hours were spent sitting on my backside!). Lovely sunny day until I got to Pen y Byn fforchog when the cloud descended and it began drizzling. Route through the forest was horrible.Herbert Anchovy31/07/2020
From Cwm Cywarch car park. Circuit of Y Gribin, Glasgwm, Waun Camddwr, Gwaun y Llwyni, Aran Fawddwy, Geaun Lydan and Pen y Allt Uchaf. Direct descent off NW of Pen y Allt Uchaf.welshyboyo17/07/2020
With CUHWC friends: Bryn Hafod - Drysgol - Aran Fawddwy - Glasgwm - Y Gribin - Bryn Hafod. Quite a lot of snow.Mark Jackson09/11/2019
Cwm Cywarch > Gesail > Cwm yr Ychen > summit, (and back).Winterfloodian26/07/2019
The easiest of ascents to add on after a circuit of Glasgwm and Pen y Brynnfforchog from Cwm Cywarch. Superb and quite airy all round views. The descent down the track to Cywarch is brutally steep but the views of the cwm are tremendous and ease the pain somewhat.Jake99413/07/2019
From lay-by by pentrewern. Followed the long established hill track up to final hairpin before following fence up East of top- then over. The views from this summit are some of the best in the whole area. Maesglase looks immense from here. On to p.y.b.stig_nest02/03/2019
Parked at the phonebox at Pentrevern. Up the zigzag track to the summit ridge. Challenged in forestry by GOML farmer, but reluctantly he allowed us to proceed.Moorponder21/10/2018
Walked up the steep track from Gesail where we are staying. Up to Y Gribin, Foel Benddin and back. Then through the forestry to Pen y Bryn Fforchog, then round the forest block and up to Glasgwm, past some amazing quartz bedrock. Good paths all round with ladder styles in the right places.Neolith29/09/2018
On the way down from Glasgwntim74726/09/2018
Up from car park at the head of Cwm Cywarch. Green road zig-zags up from Gesail farm- good job as the weather was vile.Eddie22/08/2018
when completing the nuttalls you can bag this hill with ease from the col just follow the fence to the summit and get great views down onto the A470Aristotle Chip18/04/2018
10.2 mile walk from Cwm Cywarch car park followed nice footpath to bottom of Glasgwm, turned right onto boggy track to Nuttall Waun Camddwr then followed trails across stream onto Gwaun Y Llwyni. Returned the same way then onto Glasgwm, after followed easy ridge towards Y Gribin. Descended to col up to Foel Benddin then slogged back onto Y Gribin, followed old miners lane back to road then car park, lovely sunny day with high cloud, great views north and west towards Aran Fawddwy and the rest of Snowdonia and south to Plynlimon. Saw 5 people all day!DanTrig14/04/2018
With: hb sb; Parked at SH852188 in Cwm Cywarch as mentioned by nordicstar, then back to open common before taking track across ford towards Gesail. Followed good zig-zag track up to bwlch N of Y Gribin and then up that. Then took track across to Pen y Brynnfforchog and then across moor up to Glasgwm. Llyn y Fign was heavily frozen. Excellent views across to Maesglase, Cadair Idris, the Rhinog range and Aran Fawddwy. Descended N to pass then down excellent path back to CP.Ian Baines13/03/2018

I dont think there is an easy route up Foel Benddin from Dinas Mawddwy. The Wood north west of Dinas Mawddwy now extends almost to the western edge of the access land. Just really steep and rough this way. Excellent ridge to Y Gribin and good track down to the north east. Took the low path south below Pen yr Allt Isaf then north up the valley to Creigiau Dwyfron. Don't do it. Horrible route. Descent south via Tarren Fach is easy and no access issues to Tarren Fach although not access land. First part of river walk back to Dinas Mawddwy had fantastic bluebells. Among the best I've seen.ijpowell11/05/2017
Dewey/Simm double tick. Madness. Long walk out west along the A470 to conclude the route at the Cross Foxes Hotel.Alex C21/04/2017
from car park bwlch yr Oerddrws, Pen yrochr Y Bwlch, Pen Y Brynfforchog, Pen yr Brynfforchog north top, Glasgwm, Y Cribin, Foel Benddin then back west over plantation track back to Pen yr Brynfforchog and return to Bwlchunderhill04/03/2017
From telephone box lay-by on A470 at Pentrewern (SH 82133 16402) - Y Gribin - Foel Benddin. Easy ascent via forestry track to col at SH 84169 17843 then followed fenceline to both summits. On return traversed from Bwlch yr Anges to forestry road at 482m spot height to avoid re-ascent of Y Gribin.david23020108/01/2017
From Cwm Cywarch bagging Y Gribin,Foel Benddin and Glasgwm before descending via the waterfall path.mad max15/09/2016
Drove down to the head of valley, go past chapel and phone box, excellent parking for 40+ cars now at SH 85250 18856, complete with loo! Walked short distance back down road and then lane leading to ford and then good track up to the bwlch to the north of Y Gribin. Climbed this and then the good path to summit cairn. Onwards towards Arran Fawaddy.nordicstar12/07/2016
Parked in the layby by the telephone box at 821164.A fast and easy walk on the forest road to the summit and then onto Foel Benddin. Dropped SW from Craig Dunant to pick up a good return track. Three and a half hours return with GB.bolton12/04/2016

From Pen y Brynfforchog through the debris that used to be trees, very uneven before getting onto the track.JohnStoneham23/03/2014
Late start with hill fog all the way. Didn't actually rain so not so bad. Up the forestry track then on to Glasgwym (lochan totally frozen even although no snow elsewhere), then round forest and back down to the car.SS09/03/2013
With LUMC, Foel Benddin, Y Gribin, Glasgwm, Aran Fawddwy, descent via Drysgol and Pen yr All Isaf.robertgn27/10/2012
Easy parking by telephone box Pentrewern. Excellent track to almost to top Y Gribin. Grass to Foel Benddin. Continued on until met newish fence descending fairly steeply but OK. Then met another at 90 degrees then picked up corner of black track on 1:50. Very good walk.destaylor06/09/2012
