Parked near road junction to WSW, as others through farm, then good track on access land before fainter path to top. Good views.PeterD05/09/2023
From Castell Y Bere and steeply up directly.Peterb16/04/2023
Revisit. From NW past the falls and over the bridge. Cold windy afternoon but great late pm light over Bird Rock. First visited Castell y Bere, well preserved and a bonus Subtump. Then a few cut BMs on the drive out.RHW25/02/2023
3/5 from Twywn to Kings YH. Arrived late since started at midday.davechaffey14/10/2022
From pull in at road junction to South, up ROW then direct up the east ridge. After a while I realised I was right next to pretty wide slate wall with very dry moss on it and undulating nicely up the interesting ridge curves. Occurred to me that it would make a potentially good path as opposed to trudging up through the bracken. So I found a place where there were some sticking out slates for assistance and duly walk up along the top of the wall for a while to where I was near what I thought was the top and the bracken seemed to have diminished. There were about 4-5 false tops till I was finally at the real top, where I lay down on a bed of bilberry bushes and promptly fell asleep an hour and a half...!vegibagger14/06/2022
From the car park and toilet block at Llanfihangel-y-pennant. Along the ROW above Nant yr Eira, crossing its waters at a footbridge. Simply straight up the NE flank from there, which is tough going over bracken and bilberry. Returned by an easier ATV track which runs ENE to the high point of the burn.summitter30/05/2022
Parked at the crossroads at 662 080. PROW through Caerbellan Farm. Then up right on a path at the gate, through another gate onto open land. Up onto very good track that leads to ridge 0.5km from summit, followed animal tracks to the summit. Return the same way. 54mins to top. Then onto Gamallt. With KeithByTheC.JulieB31/12/2021
Parked at junction to w, opposite phone box. Through farm, then doubled back on RoW. Cut across grassy slope to gates on to access land. Followed good track up to ridge, then sheep trods to summit. KeithByTheC31/12/2021
From Rhiwlas, bw through Caerberllan farm, fp up into pastures where I picked up the hill track back into access land, easily up through bracken/scrub-cloaked hillside sharing spectacular virtually overhead views of Criag y bere fort. Finish on more or less pathless grassy terrain. Going becoming rougher to wall jct, then just about OK down the fine E ridge with a gap btw bracken and wall most of way. Great views to Talyllyn area, needed to stop then continue walk looking carefully where to place feet. Reaching pt 169 at end set me up nicely for Rhyd ddu.pwheeler14/07/2021
From castle. Steep but ground mostly good and comfortable enough with kahtoolas.Topographer5714/07/2021
From Mary Jones Chapel with judy55cat. Uncomfortable steep climb for me up to track at 669079 then not to bad after that. Regret not checking hillbagging.co.uk before setting out. I think N Morters route from the B4405 would have been better for me, but I won't be returning! Operated ham radio for SOTA from the summit using short wave bands and Morse.G4OBK (Phil)17/06/2021
2nd of the day after Esgair Ddu. Variation from east, parked at track GR698087 space for 1 car just before it. Easy angled track to col, then up the ridge following fine wall to summit, certainly less vertical than the north approach. Sunny and great views.N.Morters25/09/2020
From the church and toilets very steeply to summit. Snow on nearby hills but none here.NormanW27/02/2020
Directly up steep slopes from parking area at Llanvihangel-y-pennant church.Winterfloodian15/09/2019

2/3 Marilyn day. Ascent of Foel Cae’rberllan & Gamaalt from Castell y Bere car park. Good views. 11km taking 4 hours, a lot of steep ascents and descents! (S)silveracorn_alan12/08/2018
last of day park near chapel row acros stream and straight up hill steep then return ne to nant yr eira and back down rowunderhill06/05/2018
Last hill of the day in blistering heat, so I went the easy way from Castell y Bere car park, up the FP and BW to the easy grassy zig zag track up the SW ridge.Gill21/04/2018
#641 Good parking at Pont Cedris, ROW to col then up the East ridge. Hot day, didn't see Gill!tim74721/04/2018
With: hb; Parked by Mary Jones Chapel then took bridleway E by Nant yr Eira. Three dead sheep and five dead lambs in the fields probably due to recent snow. Crossed stile then followed wall SW until it met second wall from E. Climbed over wall then ridge to top. Strange aerial maybe TV UHF booster. Descended almost due N to bridge by falls then back to car.Ian Baines14/03/2018

ascended off footpath skirting the west side of hill, wished I had come down same way or walked north to footpath !, descent I made was through deep ferns gorse and was steep via direct route back to abergonolwynjohnowen09/08/2017
One of the hardest climbs I can remember in stifling heat. Didn't start off till around four in the afternoon from the nearby campsite then strolled down to the car park mentioned by others and up the hill - very slowly. Just couldn't work out if it was just the heat or something wrong with me. I think it was just the heat as I walked up Carair Idris the following evening without stopping. Came down this one to the south and into the village for dinner and a few beers in the Railway Inn and a stroll back to the camp site and dip in the river.Father Ted19/06/2017
With Trefor. Started at castell y Bere car park. Footpath across field then steeply up rough ground. Picked up track which was followed to close to summit. Descended by following track SW then cutting steeply down towards road.mike.hoult08/08/2016
Straight up from Castell y Bere car park, afterwards continued to Gamallt.Tony J09/07/2016
1 of 5 today..aching a bit now. From bwlch/road between here and Gamallt a half decent path intermittently winds its way up. Searched for Trig bolt but nothing found so rebuilt the Cairn instead.off to Gamallt next.stig_nest28/02/2016
A great little hill. Straight up from the castle.jenx15/11/2015
With Jenx from north, parked by Castell Bere. Literally straight up and down. No messing! Back at car inside the hour.nordicstar15/11/2015
Parked at the castle on the north side and took the path SW before the zig zag to the summit. 3 and a quarter miles in 100 minutes with GB.bolton30/10/2015
Des Taylor’s route: Parked at Castell y Bere car park – SE along public footpath for about 1km & then up steep grass slope to double gates at SH66945 07766 – Up zigzag track to within about ½km of summit – Along ridge to small cairn using 4x4 track & occasional sheep trods. (PM)gerrybowes30/10/2015
After Gamallt. A metal gate at 666079 gave access to the rough hill side. Steeply up to gain a vehicle track which leads up to level ground. Sheep tracks lead to the highest point. Returned to gate and the castle car park for a picnic. Low hills but still hard work.mindlessflogger10/10/2015
Parked at castle to NW then straight up. Great views down into castleThearlaichdubh15/09/2015
A long familiar walk - Abermawr (Barmouth) bridge to Arthog - Cyfannedd Fawr - Trawsfynedd - Mynedd Pen Rhiw - Bodilan Fach - Maes-Y-Lan - Chapel(the start of Mary Jones's walk to Bala) then the very steep climb up Feol Cae'rberllan (Castell-Y-Bere way below). Start back at 17.00 - a long slow tiring but delightful return in the changing evening light.briandavies25/06/2015
From Car Park opposite Mary Jones' Chapel, direct ascent of Foel Cae'rberllan, then dencended to track at col and followed landrover track onto Foel Ddu.rhalstead20/03/2014
From car park at Castel y Bere (17:35) went straight up to summit. Steep & tiring at end of a long fine day. Bilberries just ripening. Returned via the short footpath down to the village. Finish 19:10dbb25/05/2013
Misty on top today. Was hoping for some fine views over to Cader.Alex C08/03/2013
Parked by phone box at crossroads to W and went up (unmarked) footpasth up farm drive which worked ok. It is a harder than expected slog up.clivevilla28/02/2013
From Castell y Bere car park.Took path by the Nant yr Eira, then up steep slopes to summit.Sprog02/11/2012
Parked at Castell y Bere car park. Took slanting public footpath then steep climb to gate at SH 66945 07766 where there is a zigzag track. (destaylor route)David Gradwell21/08/2012
Ascended from the east. A fine hill in a picturesque setting.JohnW25/07/2012
GW/NW-057. From Castell y Bere joined footpath anticlockwise around the base of the hill till around the "Cae'rberllan" farm name on the map found the route of the newish farm access tracks by spotting gates in the fence NE above me. Good route for a SOTAM0YDH21/04/2012
Parked in large passing place to SW of hill and followed path west before striking up right to grassy top. Blustery day but good views.signyred02/12/2011

Not my favourite hill going up in wet bracken from cedris farmgigglejon05/08/2010
Parked by ruined castle to W. Straight up the steep hillside over fences. Small cairn on rocky outcrop at top. Strange sort of aerial near top.Aye Jimmy20/06/2009
As Huw Thomas on a very warm afternoon after Cadair Idris. If you do Gamallt first you will see an easier less steep track contouring gentlier uphill to mast from Castel y Bere for those who prefer less steep ground.Dugswell231/05/2009
From the gate at 66946 07760 there is a good track that makes the ascent fairly civilised. From the next gate it is 500m of rocky but fairly easy terrain - fairly level.destaylor31/03/2009
