Sunny day, great views but the path walking up is quite hard going!fantango13/05/2019
Parked just E of the bridge at 836555 to the SW. Used the forest track until picking up the bridleway at the hairpin at 845563. Bridleway here is well marked through felled area. From gate easy walking to the summit.garyhoney06/05/2019

From car park SN900616, then on to Gorllwyn. Mile upon mile of grass, wet and rough in places.Neil Midgley30/08/2018
Y Gamriw - Gorllwyn - Drygawn Fawr. From Gorllwyn - surprised to find a decent path leading between the two summits. It's clearly boggy normally but in a dry summer I could stride across the bogs without difficulty. Returned via Pant Glas which was hard going at first due to tall, dense vegetation although it got easier further down. 22.3 km in total in 4 hours 43 minutes.Herbert Anchovy28/07/2018
Reservoir CP SN901616. up the Nant Paradwys bridleway till the cross roads of the path from Gorllwyn. SN895585. then followed path alll the way to the summit. With Elizyanne 50 percent Welsh marlyins completed. back from summit via a quad track that runs all the way back over Dalrhiw to SN889606.GmacT20/07/2018
with Gmact . 50 percent Welsh Marilyns. Loved this walk up through valley and navigated “the big” easily due to the dry conditions. Found the two cairns fascinating. Followed quad track down and crossed at small bridge. Would use that route to go up if I was to return again - thus avoiding the bog issues!elizyanne20/07/2018
Parked just before Fords sign on O/S. Big passing place with space to park also. Up forest road before the fords, round hairpin to rejoin the ghastly tree stump strewn track at 845563. Hot, partly sunny and great views.iangalbraith17/07/2018
From parking place at SN 838556, exiting wood at SN 851563 on to the moor. Found useful quad track for most of the climb from then on. Operated ham radio on summit for SOTA.G4OBK (Phil)17/03/2018

Finally a sunny Marilyn and SIMM summit to rand my day. Huge behive cairn about four metres higher than the trig to the SWvegibagger10/08/2017
From the minor road to the SW with Shaky & Smithy. Parked just E of the bridge at 836555. Took the track to the E of Nant y Fedw which is just as well because tree felling has reduced the marked bridleway on the other side to an impassable state. Followed the first dogleg NW & should have taken the next one E to a gate leading on to the open hillside which we used in descent. Instead we tried to locate the previously mentioned path. Big mistake. Normally the sort of mess that the ground is in is not funny at all but on this occasion it was hilarious. The air turned blue behind me as the other two tripped over tree stumps & random branches & fell into flooded holes & ditches. THen they moaned at me for poor route finding. Eventually reached the fence & found a newish gate 50m to the E. The track is then quite faint on the other side until nearer Drygarn Fach where it becomes more distinct & then it was an easy ascent to Drygarn Fawr. Big open views. Returned S to track.NotReallyABagger22/07/2017
From SW as Nordicstar. Pink markers not in place so very awkward crossing felled area. Then path to summit from gate. Better route on return following good mainly dry track to SN 85202 56400, then forest tracks back to car.Lionel Bidwell13/07/2017

Grand hill. Advised by local that bridle way from 835556 was extremely messy due to timber felling. Followed his advice and climbed steep hillside immediately behind parking place on a very old track. Followed it to 841554 where cross fence and pick up good forest track. Followed to edge of forest where a path can be followed all the way to summit.Crumblie211/03/2017
A long boggy slog form Gorllwyn. Saw one person the whole time whilst up on the top. Did the Nuttall's walk apart from the descent. Followed the bridleway down from the first beehive cairn to the start. Still boggy!johnjennison17/07/2016
With Jen from the forest entrance to SW. Bridleway has been farmed for trees so instead used track to the east on other side of river. Can drive up to a gate where parking. Used track to join junction further up with Bridleway and followed luminous pink markers through more clearance ro gate in boundary fence. After this in mist however a good track line can be followed all way to trig and large cairn. Back same way, 11km tound trip in just over 2 hrs.nordicstar28/06/2016
From SW. Used the forest track to get started. Bridleway not clear from edge of forest, but found it on the way back. All very wet underfoot.jenx28/06/2016
With K, M and RM. Extreme views in every direction. Following bridleway from SW. Lower reaches of bridleway lost in clear felling - some trackless moor traversed.Ashley31/05/2016

ANOTHER FINE DAY BUT WITH A VERY STRONG EAST WIND. FOLLOWED NUTTALLS ROUTE 11.3 BUT FOUND A MUCH MORE DIRECT DESCENT BY RETURNING SOME WAY FROM DRYGARN FAWR AND FOLLOWING A GOOD TRACK N.E. STRAIGHT BACK TO THE START. UNINSPIRING ON THE TOPS BUT ELAN VALLEY LOVELY.BURGESS09/06/2015
Nuttalls route. A great top.mick06/06/2015
Walked up from the bottom of the Devils staircase on the Abergwesyn to Tregaron road.Neolith05/04/2015
Nuttall route 11.3, 5h 20m, with Penda. Overcast but not cold, slight drizzle. Route from Gorllwyn DOES have knee-deep bogs as the book states, as I can verify! I can't recommend the return route by the Rhiwnant as shown in the book, chest-high reeds and bracken with bogs in places, very tough going. Better to retrace steps past Brynn Rhud, following marked track to lower Rhiwnant valley.beorwulf27/09/2014
10 mile circuit, parked at car park north, followed the Marchnant brook up to Gorllwyn and just stumbled across the trig, walked across pathless terrain all the way to Drygarn Fawr and followed cart track from just north of the summit back down to the road. Great wilderness walk, we had no problem with bog either because it had been dry for so many days.DanTrig11/07/2014

A surprising easy walk from the summit of Gorllwyn. Underfoot was much better than guides books suggest.bolton05/10/2013
Car park at Llanerch Cawr (SW end of Caban-coch Reservoir) – Across bridge and up track to old quarry – Up NW slopes to summit of Gorllwyn – Bwlch y Ddau Faen – Drygarn Fawr – Down N. slopes into Pant Glas (Blue green valley) – Followed valley down to car park. Progress on descent down the valley was slow – Long coarse grasses and bracken. Better to have gone back to Bwlch y Ddau Faen and down path/track on E. side of Nant Paradwys. (JL)gerrybowes04/09/2013
Good, straightforward ascent from Elan valley. Needs dry conditions underfoot. Rough land on descent. With G. Bowes.John L04/09/2013
Gorllwyn and Drygarn Fawr. Followed route in Nuttall book and then drove over to Cwmystwyth and ascended Pen Y garn. Turned a bling eye to my normal rule of touching the top of the cairn!tsharp24/08/2013
