From Talley Abbey, followed the blue route to viewpoint, left through gate, then up to top of field, right through another gate and up access land to summit. Back down field and continued with blue route. 3.25 miles. Good tracks. Any of the yellow, red or blue routes get you to the high point of the trails, just depends on how far you want to walk. | JulieB | 31/12/2023 |

Parked by abbey then followed a snowy red trail up the hill, through gate then up pasture to another gate and to trig and HP. | PeterD | 20/01/2023 |
Parked outside abbey and had a quick stroll around the grounds before following the usual red route to the top of the hillside and then a metres towards the trees before turning right up the open hillside, through a gate to the trig. Summit marked with small quartz rock. Lovely walk in expansive surroundings. | robphys | 23/04/2022 |
From Talley Abbey. Up the red trail, then short pull up the final grass field. 4/5 Marilyn. | N.Morters | 29/05/2021 |

1/8 Marilyn day. The ascent of Mynydd Cynros from Talley. 3.4km in 1 hour. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 10/05/2018 |
Parked at the Abbey in Talley and took forestry commission paths direct to the top. On way back, followed recently maintained path (right of way) south to descent west through woods and track at Cwm-byr. Fine views of snow on the Beacons! | mindlessflogger | 01/04/2018 |
Parked near Talley Abbey followed track into nature reserve took footpath after couple of hundred metres where another track joins. Through gate & gate to left, headed for clump of pine trees keeping to right of fence. Trig just beyond trees | rogreeves | 21/03/2018 |
An interesting walk from the footpath to the west, above Cilwr farm. Just room to squeeze onto the verge alongside the track. Easy up the track, then the footpath traverses an incredible bramble-infested bog, but no worries, someone has kindly installed a wooden walkway across it, though the vegetables are encroaching a bit. Through a couple of gates, and there's a sensible, easy track. Through another gate, and just before the next one, head up along the fence on easy grass. Hop the fence where it turns 90 degrees, walk 5m across tussocks, and there's a good ATV track, turn right after the turf wall and you're soon at the top. Don't be tempted (as I was) to head up the hill prematurely, you will be dumped into a woman-eating bog, full of tussocks and unbelievably deep holes. So bad, I had to turn back to the footpath (not a usual occurrence for this swamp monster). | Gill | 12/01/2018 |
Nice hill. Up from start of forest walks near chapel in Talley . Up track then at junction took path past bench steeply up beyond forest . Turned left and through metal gate and followed fence line to top. Great views across to Carmarthen Fan. | Mark Sims | 08/11/2017 |
Walked up through the forestry from near the abbey, then onto open ground for the last section. | Neolith | 30/10/2017 |
From abbey via forestry tracks then along fence line to trig and back same route. Sodden. | steve_a | 24/10/2017 |
Thought we'd make a round trip by going up the zig-zag path above Cwm Byr. No good. Path diverted then non-existent re-entry into forestry. Had to trespass a lot!
Nice views of the Carmarthen Fan. | GWR Chris | 26/08/2017 |
Last of 4 evening Marilyns having driven down from Stafford. As the hour was getting late I elected to take the easier quicker route up the farm track from the West. There's no parking but as it was practically 9pm I parked at the gate and ran most of the up and down. Is it an ancient hedgerow mound that is now the highest spot?
Back down quickly and off the other side of Cwrt y Cadno for an overnight camp. | stig_nest | 05/08/2017 |
From Talley Abbey car park. Went into forestry park and followed track then path then track again to top of forested area. Hopped over stile to left on exiting to open access land, walked up to left of fence line up field, then a gate to open access area very close to the top. | Cas-gwent | 11/05/2017 |
Last of four Marilyns of the day. Parked at forestry car park and road entrance opposite Talley Abbey. Short walk up forest track before forking right up path with a single switchback that takes you to summit rim visible ahead. Rather than head straight over fence on to Open Access land turn left down track and right over stile following fence to summit over easier ground along boundary fence with sheep pasture. Gate at top gives access to Open Access land on left and near summit and trig. Returned along same route getting to van just on dusk. | mntainman | 23/11/2016 |
I parked at the entrance to the forest just near Talley Abbey. Made a bit of a mess of navigation initially by heading along the track SW towards Allt y Arian before realising that I needed to cut off N and up towards Allt y Plas. Then cut off uphill too soon and on a dead end track so had to backtrack again. Eventually got the right track tat leads to the top and a good path. Some 400m E of the trig there is a stile into a pasture field and then there is just one gate not far from the trig. No BWF by this route. | Father Ted | 16/11/2016 |
#579 (Hump #800) From the very small CP in Talley. Up the Red walk. Avoided the brambles and bog by using style into field to South of access land. There is a gate just short of the summit. | tim747 | 30/04/2016 |
From Talley abbey. The waymarked route through the regenerating woodland on the N side of Cwm yr Efail was open so used this charming way there and back. Access land on Mynydd Cynros seemed hard to access- the pasture directly E of the summit was very easy, gate to trig at top. More interesting Welsh ecclesiastical history at the abbey. This, Crugiau Merched and a visit to the gold mine and pub at Caio would make a perfect day out, but instead I went bagging 2 more Ma and 2 more Hu. | pwheeler | 27/04/2016 |
From near the abbey. A bit complicated due to tree felling. Lucky it was a Sunday. Shame they are making a bit of a mess of the place as usual with forestry removal. | jenx | 21/02/2016 |
W Jenx from Talley village CP. Area apparently 'closed' mid Jan-July due to tree felling. Went on a Sunday when contractors are off. A matter of finding a line that works. Once above the tree line its an easy walk | nordicstar | 21/02/2016 |
Parked by barn at Cilyllynfawr (Farm). Footpath at SN 62372 33401 was fenced across. Reported to Carnarfon Council otherwise a good route up but quite steep. | G4OBK (Phil) | 08/12/2015 |
1/5 First of day (Mynydd Cronos/Cefn Bach/Banc y Graig/Cefn Branddu/Crugiau Merched) | Fergalh | 01/11/2015 |
Just over the hour from the small car park close to the abbey. A good track to the summit. With GB. | bolton | 04/03/2015 |
Parked in small car park at Talley - Up good path to corner of forest - Crossed stile & made way to summit. (PM) | gerrybowes | 04/03/2015 |
With Trefor. Circular route from Talley. Back to the car just as it was getting dark. Sunny December day. Last of 4 peaks for the day. | mike.hoult | 03/12/2014 |
Lovely steep walk up from Cilyllynfawr mostly on PROW, then last 320m on open hill pasture. Fine hill with small planted copse and trig pillar at summit. | jonglew | 22/08/2014 |
A stunning day, with excellent views to the western Beacons. Up and down in time to get back for Cardiff City FC promotion celebrations! | huwthomas | 05/05/2013 |

Llanwrda to Cwmifor. A new trail (not on 1:25K) from the Talley car park provides simple path to corner of the woods. The meadow outside the access zone then gives easy approach to trig via top gate. | Smudge | 22/01/2011 |
