With E. Warm and sunny. Parked at Blaen Y Cwm picnic site car park at the end of the minor road to Grwyne Fawr Reservoir. From there up track through forest and onto open moorland as far as junction of paths with large cairn on the ridge. Then turned S for pleasant ridge walk to cairn marking summit and historic county top of Monmouthshire. Return same route. Very quiet. No other walkers.Beeliner17/07/2019

Around three hour, eight and a half mile county top walk from Llanthony priory, if using the route from Jonny Muir's book of county tops ignore the beginning he describes instead when you reach the main road look straight ahead but slightly left and you will see a footpath sign for Bal Bach it is also on the map Jonny Muir has in his book but chooses to ignor it which is strange as its very well signed all the way.WAYNE ROWLETT22/08/2017
Nice circular route, starting from Llanthony Priory heading northwards through the Vale of Ewyas to Capel-y-ffin before rising steadily up to the ridge and along to the summit cairn. 'Character Building' weather on top!Gerry the Ranger03/08/2017

Included in day's circular walk. Parked at Capel y Ffin, walked to Vision Farm, ascent steep east to reach Offa's Dyke Path and followed it north over Mynydd Du to Hay Bluff summit. Left Offa's Dyke path, turned west and crossed Bwlch yr Efengyl to bag Twmpa, onwards to Rhos Dirion, then 4 mile leisurely hike southwards along ridge to Chwarel y Fan, then descend to Capel y Ffin. Lovely area, much to see, and interesting people when you meet them. Chwarel y Fan was my last mountain of the 100 highest in Wales.Dewi Prysor14/05/2017
Solo. End of a cracking circuit and raced the rain back to the car and won that as well.Aimless Rambler16/04/2017
With Jacqdaw, who was completing her Welsh Administrative tops. Good free car park at Blaen-y-cwm, but broken glass would indicate it is probably not a good a idea to leave any valuables in car. BW north out of plantation then follow path NE up fence to summit ridge path. Met no one and just managed to get back to car before dark. On way to Amesbury for final Stonehenge Stomp.Hillsidenick27/01/2017
