From the parking at the end of the road leading up to the reservoir. Up the forest roads then along the NE side of the forest to the top.NormanW25/11/2023
parked at the phone box at the little pull in to the southwest. Steep run up the lane to Ferm Newydd. I carried on for a bit and then headed South East up to Twyn y Gaer. Visited cairn and mound nearby. It was very windy. Decided to run north along the ridge and ended up going all the way to Chwarel y Fan. It was extremely windy on this hill at points it was difficult to stand let alone run. Returned the same way then split off to Upper House and down to small church and the car. Time taken 2 hours 30 minutes for 12.74 miles and 1989 feet of ascent. No other Walker but did see 2 motorcycles.isabelle19/11/2023

Solo, Black Mountains Loop from Mynydd Du car park.paulh7904/03/2023
Started from Gospel Pass, walked up to Twmpa, carried on to Rhos Dirion and gave the trig point a high5, heading along a decently muddy gravel path to Twyn Tal-y-cefn continuing all the way down to Chwarel y Fan where breakfast was inhaled, doubled back and followed track down to Capel-y-ffin for a little bit of road walking before tackling the disgusting switch backs onto the Darren Lwyd spur and heading back to Twmpa (still in the clag) before ambling back down to Gospel Passlboutside11/02/2023
From Capel-y-ffin then off over Bal Mawr and back up the valley.sebastiencale09/11/2022

From upper car park on Grwyne Fawr reservoir road.50 yards along path into forest there is a small path heading straight up,. This is shortest way and the one I took to emerge from forest at 256288 after joining the track near this point, then clear enough path through the bracken. But I returned via the zig zag track which is just as quick, more straightforward and a pleasanter walk.dickscroop27/10/2021
