16-mile round trip from Wooler. The climb from Langleeford is about 2 miles and is very tough going in winter conditions. <10m visibility, ice-covered, ankle-deep bogs the whole way to the summit. I slipped over a few times (should have been wearing spikes). On the steep descent the wind blew hail and rain into my face. Probably the most treacherous county top yet.hillbagger9110/01/2024

Standard round from Langleeford on a glorious day.Mark Sims08/09/2023
Plenty parking near Harthope valley public road end. Followed road for 200-300m then followed Permissive Path over Scald Hill to large summit area with trig. Returned to col with Scald Hill then used vague ATV track down to Langleeford Hope, and the track from there to parking area.willyross05/09/2023

The last of the English Historic County Tops! Cycled up from Wooler and then walked up over Scald Hill. Chatted with a guy just finishing the Pennine Way. The return along Harthope Burn a bit of a slog.pclyndes02/06/2023
The Cheviot Group from Langleeford. A clockwise route around the dale head. Nice and dry peat underfoot, but still a big and tiring round, especially due to the bash through the heather out and back to new top for me, Great Standrop. The remainder all being revisits, Langlee Crags, Hedgehope Hill, Comb Fell, Cairn Hill, Cairn Hill West Top, Auchope Cairn, and finally back over the flagstones to The Cheviot. Windy but warm in the sun. 24km with 1300m ascent, taking me 7h 40m.silverwolf_alan27/05/2023
Sourhope to The Schil, Auchope Cairn, Cairn Hill, The Cheviot, Cairn Hill, Score Head and then ridge to return to Cocklawfoot.benalder28412/02/2023
MC Muddy! From Langleeford on a very wet and windy day. Only one other mad person on the hill. Gusting c. 60/70mph on top.Martin6612/01/2023
Started at the carpark in Langleeford and made a loop to the South via Hedgehope Hill and Cairn Hill. All summits completely covered in clag and the going was very tough on the flatter parts over the peat bogs.Honcho4127/10/2022

After 4 intense days, Day 5 was no different. Got up early in the morning, and headed off too Langleeford. A very long day, taking around 7 hours doing The Cheviot and it's established Horseshoe. Hedgehope Hill was the hardest and best, but that was probably because I had to head up that Mountain first before following the Horseshoe. Some scree by Cairn Hill, and some fog on only The Cheviot while I was up there. Still, some amazing views seeing Lindisfarne, the North Sea and lots of Scotland as well. Very dominant County Top!DavidHiner29/08/2022

With E. From Langleeford, via Harthope Burn, Scotsman's Knowe, Cairn Hill, diverted to bag Cairn Hill West Top (Hangingstone Hill) and the featureless heather moor summit in Scotland, returning to Cairn Hill then continuing along Pennine Way to The Cheviot and our second historic county summit of the day back in England! Descended via The Cheviot North East Top and Scald Hill. Wide grassy path back down to Langleeford. No views as summits covered in low cloud.Beeliner03/05/2022
Parked at Hethpool, cycled to NT877214, walked out-and back via NT880201. Wet snow, very deep in places on top, sunny and warm. Clouded over on return. Time includes bike section (50min up, 19min down) Rounsfell03/04/2022
Walk from Auchope Refuge Hut along Pennine Way. Detour to Cairn Hill and The Cheviot. Return to Pennine Way and on to Score Head, King’s Seat and Windy Gyle. Continue along Pennine Way to Beefstand Hill, Lamb Fell, Brownhart Law to Coquet Head. Detour to Spithope Bothy.raymooremanx25/03/2022
Langleeford (parking area) > Hawsen Burn > Scald Hill > The Cheviot > Cairn Hill > Comb Fell > Hegehope Hill > Long Crags > Housey Crags > Langleeford (parking area). Beautiful spring day, bit hazy but light winds and a nice temperature. This is a route for the purist, even following a dry spell, Comb Fell is a horror show from the top of the Harthope Valley to you start the accent of Headgehope. Hard work for the determine only.johnkaysleftleg23/03/2022
1 of 6: From Langleeford as per Nuttall 8.1 ; disappointingly cloudy on top but better than an abandoned attempt in 1994. With Karen.ChrisR12/10/2021
Check date 25/09 to 02/10 Ascended for the second time but first since I started logging Marilyn's From Hethpool via College Burn - and Scotsman Cairn.briandavies29/09/2021
On the first day of a long weekend visit to Haggerston Castle Caravan Park, Northumberland I headed back over the border for some of the Cheviot Hills. Starting at Cocklawfoot I went up Windy Gyle (619m) a Donald, with along a stone pitched path within the Northumberland National Park and up to Cairn Hill West Top (743m) a Donald Top, more a bump on the way up to The Cheviot, but classified as a hill, since it right on the border. By this point the overcast but dry weather had been replaced with mist and no visibility for the final ascent up a stone flagged path to the Cheviot (815m), a Marilyn. I then retraced my steps back to Cairn Hill West Top and then down Auchope Rigg, with a wee stop at the shelter, 07:10hrs all in.chillyman810/09/2021

from Langleeford, via Harthoe Valley, Scotsman's Knowe, Cairn Hill, The Cheviot, Scald Hill, Hawsen Burn. Beautiful sunny day. With Tammy, and FudgeHippo07/09/2021
Late in the day (17:30 set off) so had to be run! A rather intimidating single track road through the Harthope Valley was probably the biggest obstacle... A well-defined path leads out over Scald Hill and then clearly on to The Cheviot summit- the penultimate section (before joining the paved section) is reasonably steep. The flatness of the summit plateau obscures much of the view, and with the setting sun not much was seen! However, the dark, boggy landscape was close to my native Peak District so all feelings of attachment were not lost!hjb6828/08/2021

With Angela from Cocklawfoot up to Auchope Cairn then on to The Cheviot. Followed Pennine Way out to Windy Gyle (met very pleasant family there whose 8yo had suggested climbing it). Returned by Kelsocleuch Rig. Overcast but pleasant day.SS15/08/2021

As Nuttall 8.1, but adding out-and-back to The Schil from Cairn Hill along the Pennine Way (adds 7 miles). The Cheviot > The Schil > Comb Fell > Hedgehope Hill.Peter_W_Mitchell 18/06/2021
Exactly the same route that Man of Kernow did, including cutting the corner off on the way back going directly back to Mounthooly by the path that is obvious on the way back but not on the way up. Mist and steady drizzle started from Auchope Cairn so no views from the Cheviot. Typical British midsummer day.Manuel Pereda16/06/2021
From Mounthooly, with a College Valley permit. Took the bridleway up to the head of the valley, then up to the border ridge. Then east to the refuge hut, up steeply to the summit of Auchope, then onto Pt.743m on Cairn Hill and to the 777m summit. Then followed the flagstone trail to the summit of The Cheviot. Returned the same way, but descended on a track into the College Valley before the refuge hut. With ALT. 14.9km, with 650m of ascent.Man of Kernow115/06/2021

Part of the Grand Tour of Northumberland. Circular from Langleeford via Scald Hill. Descended via Auchope into College Valley to RAF monument then back via Goldcleugh.NorthernWayfarer25/04/2021
From Langleeford via Scald Hill. Also Cairn Hill and Hangingstone Hill before descent via Harthope valley which was very boggy in parts.afoster13/04/2021
From Langleeford via Scald Hill. Very muddy after weeks of rain. Last day before lockdown.peter4lc04/11/2020
Starting at Langleeford, loop through The Cheviot, Comb Fell, and Hedgehope. Muddy throughout. Ascent of Comb Fell bad in particular.peterforeman25/10/2020
Langleeford (ample parking) > Cheviot > Comb Fell > Hedgehope > Langlee Crags > Langleeford. Swamp fest in the dip between Cheviot and Comb Fell so might be best attempted after a period of dry weather (unless you're into that sort of thing).JohnR14/09/2020
