Halterburn (ford)- The Curr- The Schil then via 3 Tumps on/ just off the Pennine Way high level route on our way back. This gave a very fine walk on a fine day, the cloud on The Cheviot lifting off by the time we got on to The Schil- the highest and best top of the day with a slight scramble to its rock top. From Mounthooly, during a stay in a cottage in the College Valley, with parking pass. A round of the border hills on the west side of the upper College Valley - Birnie Bray; The Schil; Black Hag; and an incursion into Scotland for The Curr and Blackdean Curr. A great circular round from Cocklawfoot with the aim of collecting the 3 Deweys along the route. Up the Cock Law ridge to the Border Gate. Then along the PW to Cairn Hill West Top, Cairn Hill, The Cheviot (Skiddaw visible from the summit), Auchope Cairn, Birnie Brae, The Schil (best peak of the day) and Black Hag. Then left PW to follow the ridge SW down to Sourhope visiting The Curr, Blackdean Curr (beware getting on the wrong side of the electric fence for the summit) and White Law. Circuit of Border ridge from Sourhope, camping near summit of The Curr. Blackdean Curr, The Curr, Black Hag, The Schil, Birnie Brae, Auchope Cairn, Windy Gyle, Windy Rig. Descent via Kelsocleuch Rig. Parked in Sourhope and did a circuit of Fasset Hill, Birnie Brae, The Schill, Black Hag (in England), The Curr, Blackdean Curr and White Law. Quite wild with windy showery weather and sometimes limited visibility. 14.1k, 3h 29. Met Weather forecast predicted rain, so headed into the hills where it was glorious sunshine. From Sourhope up to Black Hag and then to the Schil. Descended via Birnie Brae and Dod Hill.
