Scafell and Slight Side from Wha House Farm. Again misty, but a brief glimpse of a view from Scafell's summit. The rocks are very slippery after the many months of rain - care required. 14km with 1050m ascent, taking me 6 hours, there and back.silverwolf_alan19/02/2024

Damp and claggy solo day doing Lingmell, Scafell Pike, Sca Fell and Slight Side. Scafell Pike summit was empty (apart from me!)Winter Round01/12/2022
Stayed at Eskdale YH the night before, the staff allowed me to keep my car there on 26th, while I did the hike. Walked along the road to Wha House and followed the well defined path between the Crags and up to Slight Side, then onto Sca Fell. Great views in all directions, sunny until half way down when I brief shower caught me. Returned via the same route, as on the ascent I visited the wrong (lower) north summit, so on the descent I visited the southern summit, which now looks lower....06:20hrs all in.chillyman826/09/2022

The ascent of Scafell from Wha House, via Slight Side, Symonds Knott, returning via Slight Side, Great How and Boat How to Boot. A wonderful November day in the Lakes, with a mixture of vivid blue sky and mist drifting around the hills. Raining all night and due to continue all day, my companion planned to enjoy a day in the pub but dropped me at the top end of Wast Water and left me to it. Main route up Scafell Pike impassable due to river crossing in torrent, so plodded up to saddle between Scafell and Illgill then turned NE and climbed up streaming slopes towards Scafell and summit. Managed to descent to Foxes tarn but thought better of it with everything in torrent and returned the way i had come , descending to Burnmoor tarn with the whole bowl awash. Descending to E of tarn looked a safer bet and followed track to Boot then glad to be on tarmac, road to pub in Santonrichardrosser27/10/2021

Ascended from summit of Scafell Pike via Mickledore and Lord's Rake. Missed connecting path from Mickledore ridge so had to descend/reascend around 100m to entrance of Lord's Rake, which was not as steep or difficult as it appeared from a distance. Stuck to RHS of the gully in the first section in ascent and LHS on third and final section of ascent. Descended west from summit of Scafell via Green How and Hollow Gill joining wide bridleway near Wasdale Head Hall Farm following this back to NT car park.southern_rambler01/08/2021

10.5 mile circular from national trust car park. Followed grassy-sometimes-boggy paths across the wilderness up to the steep pull on Slight Side. From there it is a fairly easy sometimes rocky ridge up to the summit. From the summit we easily bagged Symonds Knott then descended awful loose stone path from just below Scafell summit west; this disappears when the screes finish and turns into pathless boggy moorland. We finally found a path and took it down to Burnmoor Tarn. From there along beck and over Lambford Bridge (in a poor state of repair) along footpath which is rather boggy in places to Eel Tarn then down to the Woolpack Inn and along road back to the car park. Not many people about. The day started sunny as we had great views off summit but as we descended Scafell it went into the cloud. About 1000m ascent on walk.DanTrig28/06/2021

Having spent Fri Tues in Barmouth with the kids and meeting up with Becs family we had a well earned day to ourselves and finally doing the famous Lords rake route to Scafell. We set off at 04:07 and after nearly hitting a deer on the way and seeing a couple more and a fox we parked at wasdale. I had a dump in a hole then we set off at about 6:30. I felt really good all day and before we knew it wed crossed the beck and was at the foot of the scree. This was very steep to the start of LR. At LR we took it in turns moving to avoid falling rocks. Absolutely loved it though and soon got to the fallen chokstone. From there we headed to WWT then up deep gill. Getting a picture were AW sat at the exit of the gill B4 getting to the summit. This is an amazing route one of the very best and unlike the busy pike we had it all to ourselves. Fantastic in every way.Scotty 2 Hotty02/06/2021

Lightweight circular expedition from Wasdale head. Lingmell (avoiding the hikers path to the Col on the Scafell Pike route, as it was very busy!). Dropped down to the col and up to Scafell Pike where I didn't hang around due to the sheer numbers up there. Dropped down to Mickledore dropping down to the track/gully leading up to Foxes Tarn. Decided to camp near down below the bottom of the gully on one of the flattish spots next to the stream. Following a nice night camped departed straight up the gully, short scramble up to Foxes Tarn, then onto the top of Scafell . Dropped down to bag Slight Side via Long Green. Contouring back to Wasdale Head joining the downward track at Rakehead Crag. Very hot and dry throughout. Boulder fields and scree slowed progress at times!Butty09/08/2020

Solo fr Eskdale, past Cam Spout Crag and up to Mickledore, plenty of it running, after a rest day. Well-broken cloud, nice views, big crowd on the Pike! From there back to Mickledore and whole length of Lord's Rake (since the chockstone has collapsed since my last visit, while the West Wall Traverse is reportedly more eroded and dangerous), so you emerge lower and further from Sca Fell summit. Then long but quite enjoyable descent over Slight Side...NorfolkPT2112/07/2020

Solo fr Wasdale Head Inn, using new 'microspikes'; first hills in winter conditions and running kit, keeps you moving! Mist from top of Lingmell, fresh snow, briskly up to the Pike, some sunshine with clouds mostly below from there. Solo fr Eskdale (Brotherilkeld, I'm pretty sure) after driving 6am to 11am. Jogged up Eskdale to Bow Fell, Esk Pike, Great End, Ill Crag, Scafell Pike in very mild conditions, some good views - very clear air. Mickledore, Lord's Rake, West Wall Traverse, and easily to here! I lost the path on the descent to Mickledore, regained it and passed the stretcher box at the foot of the inaccessible Broad Stand. For non-climbers, an ascent of Scafell from here involves a descent to the north or the south, as Broad Stand is too dangerous; I chose the south and fell several times on the way to the foot of the Foxes Tarn path. When I saw it, I initially shied away, thinking that if I got some way up and could go no further, turning back would be impossible. Normally the longer I look at an ascent, the more convincingly I persuade myself that I cannot do it. In fact today I gained courage and hauled myself up with surprising speed to arrive at the Foxes Tarn. There was a steep, stony final ascent which would have been slippery in descent. I reached the days sixth summit and for the first time saw Wales from the Lakes the distinctive, unmistakeable outline of the Carneddau.peter4lc06/08/2013

Joan, Peter, Ian, Chris Baldwin, Willie & dogs. Forecast for rain BUT 6.30am clear skies - surprise surprise - a speedy getaway (not telling the time!) Set off from Wasdale Head 9.0am - Brown Tongue up to Lords Rake. Scafell summit for lunch. Lords Rake was very worn like all Wainwrights popular walks. A lot of loose rock made it particularly dangerous with the dogs scrabbling for footholds - the boys managed very well. Could see the forecasted front of rain coming in from the South West. Christopher & Peter completed the descent in exactly 60 mins!? We were all down as the rain really set in and so back home!PeteF29/05/1987

First ascent was October 1975. This was my second ascent. I joined up with two others at Wasdale Head to climb Lords Rake in icy winter conditions. It needed ice axe and the front points of my crampons to get round. Very risky and foolhardy without a rope, especially on the last part. Similar ascent in snowy but not icy conditions 23/02/1983. On a Boddington Hall walk from Langdale. I remember thinking how unlikely the route from Scafell Pike, via Lords Rake, looked, but we had a knowledgeable guide in Pete Skinner (only 19 yrs); found myself here again in Dec 1973 with the Botany Dept when we hired the Leeds Uni Hut near Cockley Beck.
