September 23 Heatwave week- breaking all records. High 20s today. With L long easy fun scramble in boots up the ravine of Crinkle Gill - frequent dunking of my shirt & hat to keep cool. 27 yrs ago I last scrambled up it when frozen with ice axes! Steep ascent out of the beautiful craggy Great Cove -passing the old mossy cairn on a giant boulder as faithfully noted by Wainwright. Up Mickle Door to the main Crinkles ridge then over all the Crinkle tops (of which there are many) and down The Band. 4 Low flying super fast F35 Lightning jets screamed by hugging the contours at 30 second intervals incredibly close by shaking the ground in a deafening roar... and 15 mins came round and did it all again, managing to just miss the valley sides, us and Lingmoor by dramatic severe turns and twists. Our ears are sill ringing.Chris Pearson07/09/2023

A way for the weekend for Ellie's birthday. The climb was hard it was raining and a rather unpleasant day. The descent was hard enjoy the walk none the less.GrantRSA23/11/2019
Wow, what weather; One of the clearest days in the Lakes ever. Hard snow on the tops, which was in the main lovely to walk on. Made our way up via brownsey Gill to Pike o Blisco where we managed to meet with dad who was making his way to Coniston. From there we headed to Cold Pike, across the Middle towards crinkle crabs via the bad step. Lunch at the top, then Baz and I nipped over to Bowfell and grabbed that, whilst the other returned to old dungeon gill via the band. Baz and I followed after them as too much ice at the top to risk the climbers traverse. Great day walking with Baz, Lyndon, Andy, Stu, Dan unfortunately Matt had to duck out last minute due to a dodgy tummy!Jim Baz18/11/2019

Another trip to the Lakes, this time with eyes on some of the southern central fells. Bethany and I had been recommended Crinkle Crags by an Uncle for a decent fells, good veiws and recent footfall - he wasnt' wrong, we saw maybe 3 other groups in total during the day. It was an almost overcast day, but warm enough. Starting from Great Langdale, we took the path up along Owendale Beck, with a stop by a fairy pool, and a lie down on the grass towards the top. Up top was chilly, with some fun small scrambles, after bagging the Shelter crags and all 5 Crinkles, we decended down the over Great Knott, and back to Oxendale west of Pike O'Blisco. 5hrs 30mins: 11.1km; 888mByronHaywood29/04/2017

On the approach to the second Crinkle I watched two walkers attempt the Bad Step, which was not an option for me, and I joined the ranks of Wainwright’s “chicken-hearted walkers” rounding it to the left of the buttress and reaching the summit on Long Top a few minutes later. Again, it was deserted when I arrived, although other walkers joined me there shortly. I had lunch at 2,800 feet in a T-shirt on the loveliest of May days in what had been the most un-lovely May so far.peter4lc23/05/2015
Completed after Bow Fell. This is a mix of hiking, scrambling and climbing. After hitting summit main path has nasty drop of about 8 feet vertical. There is an alternate path located between the two cairns which loops round to main path. Very windy ascent and descent at times difficult to stand. Low cloud and rain closing in quickly. Left knee agony on descent - must sort this out and quickly.bdiver0115/05/2015

Tough walk, today, up Oxendale to Crinkle Crags, along to Bowfell, then Esk Pike and Rossett Pike. Then, down Rossett Gill and the long drag back via Mickelden to the Old Dungeon Ghyll. I was tired to begin with, so the first few hours were really hard, but then I seemed to get some energy from somewhere and I finished well. With Dad. From South Top. For most of the way from Cold Pike we followed the boundary fence in the thick mist. We arrived at the foot of the South Top without having seen it. Already late, we made a mistake coming down from the main summit following a path adjacent to Rest Gill as far as the Eskdale path. We climbed back to Three Tarns in total darkness (21:00) and then using the head torch descended in driving rain (22:45).James McKnight31/08/2006

On my own popping into the Lakes on the way home from the Scotland trip. Camped at Langdale. Decided to do the Crinkle Crags. Set off up Oxendale Beck through Stool End Farm, pulled up onto Browney Gill and onto Great Knott. Met a girl called Jill coming off Pike O Blisco and we walked together. I nipped onto Great Knott and caught up with Jill. Met another couple of girls who had come up from Wrynose Pass and they tagged on as they were a bit lost. The 2 girls left us at 3 tarns to head down and back. Did climbers traverse to Bowfell and up Great Slab. Then top of Bowfell. Then onto Esk Pike, Angle Tarn, down Rossett Gill and back to camp. Dropped her in Ambleside and back to camp. Met Ron and Hazel from Npton Climbing Club on site and had a few beers with them.Mark T22/07/1992

April 5th Tuesday. Joan, Peter & Ian. Thick mist settled in the early hours but decided to risk it being valley mist. Parked at the bottom of the Blea Tarn road and walked to Stool End ~ pretty cold in the fog 200m visibility - very few walkers. Followed Oxendale and up Hell Gill - gradually warmer with hints of blue sky above and Pike o' Blisco floating like an island. It is very hot as we slog up to the Crinkle ridge ~ just one big snow field ~ very wet. The valley mist creates glorious scenery but rises to form an afternoon haze. We enjoyed the Crinkle ridge. Everyone is very friendly knowing we have judged the weather to get a super day when most folk are fog bound in the valley. The descent down Browney Gill is a horrible rubble path so we descend the crags and linger to paddle in Oxendale beck.PeteF05/04/1988

Leading a party of boys from the King's School, Chester. From Dungeon Ghyll bus terminus. Walked along path to Stool End, the Band, to Three Tarns. Moderately heavy rain so far, now high wind. Walked over Crinkle Crags. Over Red How and directly down to Cockley Beck. Some avoidable rocks near the top. Footbridge over the Moasdale Beck. Along the road to Troutal Youth Hostel.pwbellarby11/04/1962
From Leeds University Outdoor Activities Centre, Dale Head, Duddon. Part of Outdoor Activities Course of Leeds University Graduate Certificate of Education. With some other participants (Group B). To Wrynose Pass top. We followed the path from 3 shire stone to east side of Red Tarn, and on to Crinkle Crags South Summit. Between this and the North Summit are a few feet of scrambling (which can be avoided to the West). Arrived at North Summit and had lunch just beyond. We were heading West until by compass and sight we realised my error. Continued along ridge path to Three Tarns. Went down path on the Band to Dungeon Ghyll Old Hotel and had refreshments. By track behind hotel down valley, then joining the track on south side of Mill Gill to Stickle Tarn. Erected tent.pwbellarby22/09/1960
