Second ascent. Previous ascent October half term 1991. Our most successful day ever ~ we planned an early start to get to Loweswater for an ascent of Grasmoor. It proved a low cloud day but having arrived we decided to walk up the Ghyll beside the stream - in quite thick mist. Peter Ian Joan Becki Katy:- As we reached 1800' the cloud above began to thin and at the col we came out of the cloud to a perfect sunny day with views from Scotland to Ireland of only cloud surface and only peaks above 2000' peeping through ~ we sat for hours and had to retrace our steps at 4pm - back through the cloud to the gloom below.PeteF24/09/2022

Large group work, in the mist. Cold day but soon warmed up when climbing up these peaks. Afternoon was much nicer weather wise. Parked some vehicles at Lanthwaite Green, and others in Buttermere to grab a well earned pint at the end of the walk. Mark, Brett and I ran up to Rannerdale Knotts in order to achieve this peak, whilst the others strolled off the top of whiteless pike. Grabbed a nice pint at the Fish. Group were Baz, Mat, Ian p, Andy g, Dan, Brett, Andy m, mark, geoff, zander and Lyndon.Jim Baz16/11/2019

On our return we camped at Chapel Style farm in Borrowdale with the most talkative owner ever Richard. Rested and fuelled on sirloin and kofta I had cooked the night before I realised we could complete a book this week a hard book so suggested the Grasmoor 5. Parking at Cinderdale just passed Rannerdale Knotts we headed for Grasmoor via Lads How. Progress was slow very very. Lads How and ridge were so so steep and it was warm. It was a killer on the legs. After several long not much to talk about hours we finally reach the flat plateau. WE HAD MADE IT. We knew we were the highest wed been for a while. Huge 360 views were amazing. At the summit a huge windshelter was simply stunning and worth the effort. Bec may disagree. On the top we stumbled across the Darren Holloway memorial race. These runners we not Human the distances they were covering. For us though we ate drank and headed off to our next target. Eel crag.Scotty 2 Hotty22/06/2019

Completed with Chris. Parked at Rannerdale and climbed Grasmoor first by quickest route. It was very steep and took 2 hours. From the summit retraced tracks along clear path up to Wandope. As Wainwright says the summit is not clear and could be missed if it weren't for a small cairn. From there onto Whiteless Pike and returned to Rannerdale by route under Rannerdale Knott. Cold wind but a sunny day. A dry route throughout. suspect that photo was taken at Thirdgill Head Man rather than Whiteless Pike however we did go over Whiteless Pike. I was nervous about the connecting ridge from Whiteside to Hopegill Head, which looks precipitous on pictures; the Nuttalls say it is an illusion and no problem, and they are right. Up a dry Lorton Gully (Grade 3 scramble) with Bryan Thornton -old Uni house-mate. Bryan being a big cricket fan thought summit are would be good for test match? Very warm muggy day Then over Grisedale Pike (just me) - Hopegill Head (swifts diving and swooping)- Whiteside - Whin Ben. Camped at Gatesgarth farm eating army compo rations from Bryan's sister's boyfriend!Chris Pearson14/07/1986
A wild winters day with a full on gale from the south with lashing snow showers and stinging spindrift which gave me a real drumming as the day progressed especially here on this huge plateau -a nasty experience as I crabbed along squinting down at the ground through an eye slit in my snowed up balaclava -thought I would never find the summit cairn-which is reassuringly large when I did. On descent in black and white gloom all sense of scale lost as a grass patch 10 feet away looked like the valley far below. Not a great moment to see one boot sole was flapping half off - I was more annoyed than worried as had just paid £28 for resole. Descended OK into calmer area down the valley from Coledale Hause - phew. Spun my Hillman Avenger car on snowy road alongside Thirlmere on way home. Stopped 3 feet from rock wall -phew again.Chris Pearson28/01/1986

My first visit of 3- Grasmoor is a bit of an outlier, certainly so from the Coledale Horseshoe, and dull as a bag with that walk. Ways up from the Crummack Water give a dedicated climb of the mountain and are the most satisfying. Date is for the direct ascent from Lanthwaite Green- AW pg 6 in the Grasmoor chp., absorbing to follow with some easy scrambling and excellent situations- on the meet at the Fylde MC hut.pwheeler12/06/1975
