Following a morning of torrential rain, and mist down to valley level, I took the last few hours of daylight after the rain stopped to do a quick up and down of the ridge to Lingmell. No circular route possible due to vastly swollen streams. As I climbed the mist lifted, the sun came out, and cloudless skies left Wasdale and its surrounding peaks looking their very best. 8km there and back with 800m of ascent, taking me 3.5hours.silverwolf_alan21/02/2024

Solo from Wasdale Head village green. Lingmell from the col, then Scafell Pike. Something I've been putting off for 40 odd years. Naturally a very busy day with lot's of lovely people about and a small contingent of the deeply inconsiderate as would be expected. Found a few grassy sections on the way back down to Lingmell col which I'd missed due to watching where every step would land on the way up. These were a blessing. Crossed to the path down from shoulder of Lingmell. Lovely views and grassy with only one tough gravelly bit. I recommend it if you've had enough of crowds and endless stone steps.nukeboy119/07/2023

What started out as a strenuous-enough walk up Scafell and Scafell Pike turned into a bit of nightmarish 30km walk! Ascent from Seathwaite which is by far the most beautiful and undisturbed way to go up! Climb up round Great End onto Ill Crag, and go over Broad Crag col to Scafell Pike- this was thoroughly enjoyable and we managed to (just) beat the crowds who then swarmed like midges as the sun approached its luncheon zenith. The plan had been to descend to Foxes Tarn and reascend Scafell but there was a lot of cloud moving in and, no knowing the area, Sasha and I decided to descend via Wasdale (as neither of us really fancied Lord's Rake, either). What a fucking dreadfully dull path down that is: only the brief stop off at Lingmell to take in what had been and what could have been remedied the tedium. We then proceeded to climb up to Styhead Tarn under Great Gable on the long way back to Seathwaite.hjb6825/08/2021

Lightweight circular expedition from Wasdale head. Lingmell (avoiding the hikers path to the Col on the Scafell Pike route, as it was very busy!). Dropped down to the col and up to Scafell Pike where I didn't hang around due to the sheer numbers up there. Dropped down to Mickledore dropping down to the track/gully leading up to Foxes Tarn. Decided to camp near down below the bottom of the gully on one of the flattish spots next to the stream. Following a nice night camped departed straight up the gully, short scramble up to Foxes Tarn, then onto the top of Scafell . Dropped down to bag Slight Side via Long Green. Contouring back to Wasdale Head joining the downward track at Rakehead Crag. Very hot and dry throughout. Boulder fields and scree slowed progress at times!Butty08/08/2020

And so the day finally dawned....the planned end of our great Wainwrights adventure. But aaagh! the weather forecast had deteriorated overnight so that now fog and rain were forecast from early afternoon. Got ourselves down to Wasdale Head pronto and left in bright sunshine in shorts and t shirts. Romped up Lingmell, still sunny at the top but wind made it cool. Great views all round but no time to hang around. Great End looked quite a long way away and the clouds were gathering to the west.....AlanDStewart01/07/2017

Set off at 9am, Walked up from Wasdale Head, to Scafell Pike, only 3 others on top this time in the morning, snow still all over the place but perfect warm and sunny, great views over the snow capped Lakeland Peaks, no haze so views stretched to Snowdonia, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Southern Uplands all the way over to what looked like The Cheviot, North Pennines, Dales and Forest of Bowland. Afterwards went on to Lingmell, and down steep Lingmell ridge back down to Wasdale Head, then drove to and bagged Seatallan, 9.3 miles altogether, now only have to bag Slieve Donard then all the UK country summits are done, role on June!DanTrig25/03/2017

Followed Piers Gill on the left side, very steep. few scrambles but final push to summit. summit has impressive cairn which now looks slight different after me being there. great 360 degree views and a crystal clear cold but crisp day.Scotty 2 Hotty02/01/2017

Solo fr Wasdale Head Inn (where I was staying later so parked), having bought new 'microspikes' in Keswick which were excellent; first hills in winter conditions and running kit. Not much real running but still moved very quickly. d M&D 6am, Keswick 9.15am, Inn 11.30am, back 3:45pm. A great view of Wastwater from ascent, but mist on top of Lingmell, fresh snow. On to Scafell Pike...NorfolkPT2128/12/2014
My last two Wainwrights to complete 214 in 2014. Took a day off work as the weather forecast leading up until New Year's Eve was emphatically not promising. An early start to a long day saw me take the path from the campsite at the northern end of Wast Water and immediately begin the steep, unrelenting trudge up Lingmell. I rested briefly at Lingmell Scars and looked nervously across at Scafell Pike, brushed by cloud, which, however, gradually moved away and it was apparent that today would be clear. Crowds were already heading up to Scafell Pike by the tourist path; I had four to climb before arriving there in mid-afternoon. I set off to attain the first, Lingmell, with its graceful ten-foot spire as Wainwright calls the cairn.peter4lc06/08/2013

Although still steep this grass ascent was a pleasant change to the rocky ascent to Scafell Pike. GOLDIE had a good rest at the top. Best day on Lingmell. Pete and I walked as far as Middleboot Knotts above the gorge of Piers Gill. Dramatic views of the ravine, always interesting. We then went straight onto Lingmell and down its long, easy WSW ridge with views over Wastwater as far as the Antrim coast. Views near at hand were excellent, too, for example the crags of Scafell, the gullies picked out with snow. Other times (2), Lingmell has been bagged along with other peaks (all the way from Langdale in 1974) so this was my first time on its WSW ridge.pwheeler18/04/1995

On own camping at Wasdale. Hot muggy day with clouds swirling around the tops. Set off up Lingmell and along the foot of Scafell Pike crags and Pikes Crag to Hollow Stones. Up Lords Rake into thick mist and up West Wall Traverse onto the top, took in Symonds and up to Scafell and a break. Slowly bimbled down Green How and out of the mist and clouds.Mark T29/06/1994
