Solo fr Dunmail Raise, completing recce of BGR. Very wet underfoot, feet sodden and cold nearly the whole way (bit of a thaw of recent snow; microspikes still invaluable on icy snow patches up to Sgt Man area, though they 'balled up' a bit w thawing snow). Overcast, breezy but milder. No real views. To Sgt Man, and back basically the same way. At car 1pm and in Bunwell 8:35pm.NorfolkPT2130/12/2014

Ascent with friends from New Dungeon Ghyll via Stickler Ghyll to Stickler Tarn which were both beautiful on this sunny day. The waterfalls had benefitted from the rains of the previous few days. The path upto the tarn is mostly stepped with a couple of places where a light scramble is required. There were some fairly substantial works underway to form a new hydro electric facility on the lower section of the Ghyll but they didn't detract from the scenery. The Tarn rewards with fabulous views that only got better through the day. From the tarn there is a fairly significant pull to the summit of Sergeant Man but it is worth the effort. Had a short break on the summit before pushing on to High Raise.Jon B24/08/2014
