On a round of Loweswater - Burnabnk Fell, Blake Fell, Gavel Fell, Low Fell, Fellbarrow, from car park at N end of Loweswater. 18.5km, 5h20Rockdoctor03/03/2024
Parked at Maggies Bridge. The round of Mellbreak North and South Tops, Hen Comb, Floutern Cop, Banna Fell E Top, Gavel Fell, Blake Fell and Burnbank Fell. Cloudy day with some sun but chilly NE wind. Some snow left on the top of Blake Fell from the weekend but surrounding higher hills looked impressive - across to Grasmoor and Red Pike/High Stile. Worth mentioning the good track not on the map heading off NE from Burnbank that curls N to meet up with the bw below and facilitate a more direct return to Maggies Bridge. Solorichard6903/03/2024

A round of the Loweswater Fells from Maggies Bridge, visiting Mellbreak (both tops), Scale Knott, Hen Comb, Floutern Cop, Banna Fell (E Top), Gavel Fell, Blake Fell, Carling Knott, and Burnbank Fell. A lovely autumn day, with the Buttermere area getting the best of the sunny weather, most of the Lakeland Fells were capped with mist. 23km with 1200m ascent taking me 8 hours.silverwolf_alan27/10/2023

With Sarah Evans, Cloudy but not low cloud, hazy almost, sun was trying to come through. Parked at Felldyke car park at Cogra Moss. Just did Blake Fell but ascended via Low Pen & High Pen (Middle Fell) and descended via Sharp Knott, but path through plantation wasn't obvious due to mess left from the logging work so ended up doubling back on ourselves to get onto forest track. Could see the extend of the fell fire this winter, all across Gavel Fell, Banna Fell and Middle Fell. The fence posts were definitely charred. Really enjoyable and some nice memories of Blake Fell for once. Though no official record I have memories of doing Blake Fell before with Mark Rudd and it was really windy and we pretty much had to crawl across the top.Ruth Mackay18/04/2021

Wander out during COVID lockdown with Dave F. Blow out the cobwebs. Parked Fangs Brow and followed track bearing right up to the cairn and onto Burnbank. Started raining not heavy but donned waterproofs. Burnbank and onto Blake Fell. Bit boggy but not too bad. Great views from Blake and all the way back. Some of the best views in the Lake District for not much effort! Coming off Blake and a sheep skeleton on fence. Looks like the sheep caught his head and horns in top part of fence, died and eaten by crows/foxes et al and just the skeleton left hanging there. Great views all the way back down to the car and some Belties to boot.Mark T27/11/2020

5/7 Birketts Owsen fell, Burnbank Fell, Loweswater End on Carling Knott, Carling Knott, Blake Fell, Sharp Knott, High Hows Lamplugh. All from Lamplugh Church. Walked up road to North for about a mile to get open access to fell to avoid upsetting the farmers and on way down to High Hows had to tackle the closed forestry section - which was feasible because it was Sunday so no chopping down today. Need to go steady down the track muddy but ok. Then went to Cogra Moss reservoir and used footpaths back to church. Nice round. 4 hours.nickywood120/10/2019

Parked on the edge of the Lamplugh road and took the clear path that goes down towards Ennerdale. At the point where it turns down we turned up a well trodden path though not signed or on the map. the path took us straight up to the top of Burnbank fell then onto Blake Fell and finally Gavel. from here we dropped down another clear path though not on the map towards Crummock and gradually walked round to meet the original path that we had left. Lovely sunny day though a good breeze on top. Walked with Chris.karentracey08/07/2018

Mellbreak the Return. After a memorable day in the Loweswater hills three years ago I returned with Mark hoping for a better day. Walking from Maggies Wood car park, the steep climb up to Mellbreak was in sunshine retracing our steps and dropping down to cross Mosedale Beck to tackle Hen Comb head on. As we approached the summit the rain started and as we climbed Gavel Fell it was getting quite breezy. Glad to stop for lunch in the shelter on Blake Fell before we carried on to the still uninspiring 'top' of Burnbanks Fell. Weather improved on the descent to Holme Wood and the car and a welcome pint in front of the log fire at the Kirkstile InnPhilip A03/05/2018

Lazed in the sun at cairn -perfect summers day with stunning views -until a wasp had us hurrying on our way. Had an educational long chat with a 78yr old fisherman about fly fishing down at Cogra Moss. He proudly showed us hundreds of different flies of all designs and colours-although he had caught nothing today, and this despite 400 new rainbow trout having also been released in to the water this very day!.Ospreys sometime fish here - he told us (a fisherman's tale?)of seeing one plummet into the lake and take a fish and all the fishermen cheering. United Utilities are about to repair the dam after consultation showed most people like the man made lake, rather than saving money by draining it.Chris Pearson24/08/2016
