From A591 Town Head, Grasmere. 10.5 km, 675 asc. NW up the Cotra Breast ridge to Dead Pike (Steel Fell summit). W following the fence around the head of Greenburn valley to Brownrigg Moss. Then E up the ridge over Calf Crag and Gibson Knott summits to Helm Crag summit (The Howitzer). Down the zig-zag path from Bracken Hause to the Green Burn footbridge. Cross boggy country from Calf Crag to the tarn and then along the fence line to the top. All to myself, a glorious evening. On top at 8.15 pm and down in Grasmere in about an hour. This is a great short round with great views. The hills are not high but the situation is magnificent. About 15 km in a leisurely 4.25 hours with lots of stops for views and photos.worldclimbs15/06/2022
