My fifth round of the Lord's Seat Group from Whinlatter to Wythop Mill, this time with Chris. Visited Whinlatter Top, Whinlatter Brown How, Tarbarrel Moss, Ullister Hill, Barf, Lord's Seat, Broom Fell, Widow Hause, Graystones (both summits), Ling Fell, Rivings, and Sale Fell. 20km with 1030m ascent taking 7h20m. Lovely autumn colours and great views across the Solway into Scotland. Glad we did not do Skiddaw, our original choice, as it was stubbornly in cloud all day.silverwolf_alan03/11/2023
I'm sure there's an adage that says leave the nobbly one till last. So Boo and I did. Like Patrick McGoohan number 6 for the day. Then off for a pint in the Royal Oak at Braithwaite. Boo forgot her purse again so I was in the seat once moreAlphaville19929/09/2023

Today myself and Alma Aurea headed to Powter Howe for a circular walk taking in six Wainwright's - Sale Fell, Ling Fell, Graystones, Broom Fell, Lord's Seat and Barf, plus a couple of nearby summits. The weather was very warm and humid but from the forecast it looked like this area should stay clear of any thunderstorms or showers, which it did. However, despite the lower summit heights, the hills are relatively independent and quite steep it turned out to be quite a long day with some hot steep ascents! The walk took about 7.5 hours to cover the 15 mile route. Views are second to none here, a great place to finish the day. /Dmeltdiceburg11/06/2023

Day 2 of a big weekend of BGR recce/training, but left the BGR on one side today to explore the Lorton & Wythop fells, starting from Powter How with Barf and going anti-clockwise. Bottled out of Whinlatter as the drizzle got heavier, but it cleared whilst taking in Ullister Hill & Seat How. A grand day out, with plenty of grassy running & a decent amount of bog for Hazel to dash about in.NumptyDumpty05/03/2023

From car park south of Graystones. Graystones (both summits), Kirk Fell (Lorton), Widow Hause, Broom Fell, Lord's Seat, Barf, Ullister Hill, Seat Ho. Return down the valley to the east. Note that the RoW from Lord's seat summit heading south west shown on the 2016 OS map no longer exists. The alternative path follows the fence to the south of Lord's Seat going south for a while along the fence then bends west to pick up the RoW shown on the OS map. With Jill.ijpowell17/06/2021

From Lords seat we made the steepish decent to Barf. Barf for me was easily the best views and best summit of the day! Amazing towards Keswick and a sheer drop down to Bassenthwaite lake. Loved it and cannot wait to go back the proper way up. For now though we just soaked up the amazing views. Even text Lily a picture of the views. The decent was very interesting going through the pine trees and following the river back. Absolutely stunning and very secluded. Looked like a scene from lord of the rings. This turned out to be the only walk this week. The Thursday we went to Ashness bridge and surprise view and popped to Watendlath tarn and then drank in the justice of the common pleas all night so was then too rough on the Friday so we went to Ennerdale (I dumped in the woods) st bees and wastewater before heading home. Great great start to the year.Scotty 2 Hotty02/01/2019

Via The Clerk and Bishop. Found this scramble fairly terrifying, as it was wet and the rock was very slippy. The route appears fine, looking up from The Bishop - just a steep scree slope...then it gets steeper and found there were a couple of hair-raising moves needed round Slape Crag - very exposed to me, but I do have a fear of heights!CharlieRose16/11/2016

Climbed from Wythop Mill up Ling Fell, Graystones, Graystones (Birkett), Kirk Fell (Lorton), Widow's Hause, Broom Fell, Lords Seat and Barf. Beautiful sunny October day, but chill east wind on tops. Wythop Moss was a big wet bog, especially after some days on rain. Easy walk from Lord's Seat. Low cloud blew back and lifted from Skiddaw giving magnificent views over Bassenthwaite to where we'd been last week. Tried to go on to Whinlatter Fell using Stuart Marshall's guide. The 'path off to the left' before Lord's Seat soon petered out and we had to traverse increasingly thick heather - rather dangerous. Despite his explicit directions we soon got lost because the waymarks mentioned are either missing or being replaced. More by luck than judgement (following the sun, OS map and going downhill) we eventually emerged from the forest at Darling How miraculously near where I'd parked the car. Take care!David S.28/08/2014

Started from Whinlatter forest park and made our way up to Lord's Seat and then over to Barf before making our way back down through the forest by a different route. The clouds were low and the wind high, so this was the perfect solution to getting a good view on a pretty average day. With Rookie Ramblers.islamidget14/10/2013
