Storm Babet. 7 hrs on my feet covering 21 km linking 12 low hills (5 repeat tumps & 7 new sub-tumps) on a circuit from Knipe Fold. Took a battering from Storm Babet from the met office forecast of 'Gales or severe gales northeasterly winds, even at lower levels and stormy on the tops' - particularly exhausting when ploughing through bog, dead bracken, tussocks, heather and across rocks, as well as going uphill! Outing achieved its purpose of being my final tough day before OMM in 8 days. Heavy rain needles hit me here head on - ran on down good grassy path to Park Hill trying to lose height and lessen the wind ferocity. The Met Office describe Gale force winds (gusts over 50mph) 'as making walking difficult and strenuous with a potential to be blown over by gusts. There is often a marked increase in winds through cols or on exposed ridges and summits. Distances can take longer to cover' Very true - often tricky & risky trying to stand on rocky summits today. | Chris Pearson | 20/10/2023 |

7.2 mile circular from the car park west of Tarn Hows. We followed a lovely trail through woods up to Tarn Hows then followed paths across to Black Fell. We descended west and after ending up on a wrong path that disappeared into a bog, We found the correct path by Hollin Bank to the road. We then followed mostly tracks past High Oxen Fell farm and found our way up onto Holme Fell. We then descended to Yew Tree Tarn, back to the car park. 555m ascent. Only a few people about. Sunny conditions becoming overcast and then becoming sunny again. Great views of the higher mountains from both summits. | DanTrig | 16/09/2022 |
