Walked from Keswick Town Centre via Portiscale. Windy but good viewsChinnockC01/03/2020
Easy walk from double gates at NY247222. A few pheasants were the only lifeforms encountered.Tony J31/12/2019
Answer m/c on access number. From 24825 22395 on tracks to within a few metres of summit. Probably not a good route if atv-ers or peasant/pheasant shooters about. Good views from summit.rogreeves24/10/2019
With K. Didn't realise there were access issues for this hill and without internet access decided to do it briskly and leave. Lots of pheasants and activity in lower reaches but we were not seen. Near summit saw part of a vehicle and heard car door closing. Hid and crept through undergrowth to summit. Wish we had researched better and rung for permission.Ashley01/10/2019
With P.Newman on DoE Gold assessment. Followed many quad bike tracks round and round to top and down again. Loads of pheasants. Great views.robphys30/09/2019
Parked in area to SE and followed the quad bike tracks up as others have done - no bother (great views) until I got back and heard the bikes coming in the same gate as I left by! Sneaked out quickly to avoid any confrontation - probably worth getting permission for this one!twg2729/06/2019
No pheasants, no 4x4s, no permissions required, no problem. Just park in the car park to the SE and follow the 4x4 tracks to the top. the Swinside Inn is worth a pre/post pint, for the view alone.summitter22/04/2019
1 of 4: From the double gates at 247222. Spoke to the farmer who was at the field opposite. He was unconcerned at me parking there. With karen, Sam and Lauren. The track dips and then continues winding round to the top.ChrisR10/04/2019
Gained permission from the number mentioned in earlier log. The hill is used for Quad Trekking. Chap on the phone gave us a route that the quads dont use. We heard them but never saw them. Short climb, good 360 degree views.crax7310/04/2019
Little hill reached through pine forest but surprisingly panoramic views in all directions. Well worth small effort.Peak Rambler01/04/2019
Phoned number below a few days in advance, got permission and suggestion to park at double gates (NY 246221). Courteous and helpful, readily granted. I enjoyed a relaxed hour which included watching a flock of crossbills on the summit.pwheeler24/02/2019
Phoned for permission on number given below. Very helpful and friendly. Excellent viewpoint.Winterfloodian18/02/2019
From gate to SE. No answer on number provided below. Slightly worried I would be blamed for the open gates and escaping pheasants but it wasn't me.squeegs27/09/2018
Very short evening run in and out from the east on track to summit. Fine view if a little wary of private signs...N.Morters20/02/2018

At last our final English Marilyn!softsquare31/10/2017
Expertly guided up the tracks by Rick Nordicstar. Nice hill, very fine views.Gill01/09/2017
With Gill from the usual double gate spot, a plethora of young pheasants being fattened for Xmas shoots abounded. Tracks to near summit then some minor scrub bashing to the cleared summit. Track works seem ongoing, may even see the summit landscaped soonnordicstar01/09/2017
An early(ish) morning raid through a sea of pheasants to a superb top. I can only imagine Alf was put off by the private land to omit this from his books.. theres a track all the way up to the top -you just have to find it!stig_nest13/08/2017

Tried to phone but number given by Conrad doesn't work so parked to east and worked my way up. I know it's relatively low but the views over Derwentwater are great.clivevilla31/08/2016

With GN. Several thousand young pheasant. Up via bracken which was 6 foot high in places. Down via vehicle track. Met estate manager who gave permission as this is private land. Permission will be given except on days when there is a shoot arranged so estate manager encourages walkers to ask.trimarc214/08/2015
Climbed the gate, up the track to the highest point on the track then through trees to the top. Good views to be had from this summit.Richard02/04/2015

Parked by the double gates at NY24693 22176 Up track & then steep climb up through bracken & heather to summit. (PM)gerrybowes16/12/2014
No problems encountered on a brisk up and down from the northeast.Alex C28/04/2014
with permission from the estate manager and accompanied by Dad. Lovely hill. Rhoderdendron bush on summit provided good shelter from strong wind during the SOTA activation.M0YDH07/03/2014
With Mag. Overcast and threatening rain. Permission sought from Estate and freely given.(keeps access wheels oiled) Good views from summit. Best route is to follow track past pheasant pen then bear right and up to summit of track below topmost wood. A tenuous track leads up through trees without need for bracken and gorse encounters.iredale06/02/2014
Parked at NY224218 and ascended via the track from NY247222. Good views.davidpettit8426/01/2014

Set off in stealth mode (dull clothing) from the Swinside Inn at 10.15am on Bank Holiday Sunday. Went up track past lost of pheasant shoot numbers into cleared open fellside feeling very conspicuous but made top OK seeing just 1 pheasant, 1 deer & 0 humans. Descended over S. Summit hidden amongst trees back to gate with one Private sign on it!signyred26/05/2013
