First Wainright with Kelly.paulh7906/01/2024
From Mardale Head, Rough Crag, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Stony Cove Pike, Hartsop Dodd and down to Hartsop. In the clag and rain almost from the outset - only a view of Brothers Water on the descent from Hartsop Dodd. Slushy snow on High Street. With Gillian. Many thanks to Harriet for the drop off at Mardale and the wet pickup from Hartsop.richard6902/01/2024
The Kentmere Horseshoe from Kentmere in an anticlockwise direction visiting 9 Wainwrights: Shipman Knots, Kentmere Pike, Harter Fell, Mardale Ill Bell, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Froswick. Ill Bell, and Yoke. A fine and partially sunny Boxing Day, with very fine snow showers. Certainly a nice change from heavy rain and storm force winds of recent days! 22km with 1200m ascent, taking 7h40m.silverwolf_alan26/12/2023

From lunch at Thornthwaite Beacon with L after a sweltering ascent in the heatwave of our favourite climb - 500m straight up the steep lonely east ridge of Ill Bell from Kentmere Reservoir. Then wonderfully off-piste straight down through the crags at the Head of Kentmere to visit the source of the R Kent and its upper course where we skinny dipped to cool off in one of its many pools -delightful in this rare Sept heatwave. Lovely walk down craggy Kentmere far from the crowds on the ridges. It was so hot we had to cover up to not burn.Chris Pearson05/09/2023
19 mile walk of Kentmere Horseshoe with a couple of out and back diversions. From Kentmere church, Sallows, Sour Howes, Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Thornythwaite Beacon, High Street, Rough Crag, reascend to High Street, Mardale Ill Bell, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike, Shipman Knotts. Last couple of hills with Doug and Jen from Wigan, lovely couple.Longwojo17/06/2023

After sleeping in the car and waking up to cloud and heavy rain this walk originally planned for the 23/09/17 was postponed. So with the weather how it was forecast today was the perfect go for attempt two. Setting off just after 5am headed to Haweswater. Starting from the car park at the end of reservoir we made our way onto the ridge following the spine of the ridge. this walk was incredible, had everything from amazing tarns scrambling, ridge walking flat grassy areas the lot. used our new Jetboil and had porridge from breakfast on the ridge just under the summit on long stile. cracking piece of kits and best view I've ever eaten breakfast at. off the ridge the summit plateau open up onto the roman road and trig of High street. Words cannot express how fantastic this walk was start to end. and this was just the start of a phenomenal day in the fells.....Scotty 2 Hotty21/04/2018

Another Birthday walk with Bethany. It was quite chilly, even with the sun on, but perfect weather for walking. Starting from Hartsop we walked up Hayeswater Gill up to Hayeswater. Due to a very late start, we had some lunch here before starting up the very steep path up towards The Knott. Once on here, it was an easier ridge route to High Street and Thornthwaite Crag. The ridge gifted delightful veiws of Haweswater to the west, whilst looking south gave long distance veiws over Kentmere and Troutbeck. After decending from Thornthwaite Crag, we stopped and had a travel beer along Pasture Beck before completing the decend back to Hartsop. 5hrs: 12km; 765mByronHaywood03/05/2016
Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, High Street, Rough Crag, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike. Parked the car at the village hall in Kentmere village (£3 voluntary donation). Up Garnburn Pass and then on to Yoke, Ill Bell and Froswick. Only saw one person till I got on to main path up to High Street. Riggindale Crag was slow going but not a scramble. After dropping down to Blea Water, the climb up to Harter Fell via Small Water was hard work but since there was someone in front of me carrying their bike up (who I never caught up with) I couldn't complain. Excellent shelter at Nan Bield Pass. At the top of Harter Fell I met Cary and we walked down to Kentmere and gave him a lift to the YHA at Troutbeck where he'd started the day (he wouldn't have been home before 8 otherwise).tsharp03/05/2016

Parked up at Mardale Head and set off up Gatescarth Pass. Bit cloudy and gloomy at the start heading up; lot more cloud on the summit of Harter Fell, and a breezed blowing as well. Carried along to Mardale Ill Bell, then stopped for a break on High Street. Cloud had cleared by this point, and it had turned into lovely sunny day; was grateful for the breeze blowing along the tops! Short sandwich and tea break then continued onwards onto The Knott before taking a detour onto High Raise before coming back and heading east to the summit of Kidsty Pike before taking a stroll down to Haweswater and back to car park. Joan, Peter & Ian. Aug 16th. A perfect morning - we decide to leave the camp and walk right along the Roman Road the 5 miles to the top of High Street. Glorious views with some cloud building up but gradually getting warm - quite hot by the time we were back at camp at 1pm. A quick pack up leaves just an hour to get down to How Town for the ferry. Peter finds a good route although the descent is hard on the thighs with a big pack. The route through the cottages is not clear and we miss it and we can see the boat - Arrive just in time - very hot! A lovely cool boat trip back to Pooley Bridge.PeteF16/08/1988

August 26th/27th 1983. Expedition members Colin, Bob, Peter aged 8 years, James aged 8 years, Trouble. We had four rucsacs and two tents. We took two cars to Ullswater on a lovely sunny morning then Mummy dropped the expedition party at Troutbeck at 8.45am. We found a trout in a pool in Hagg Gill. Lunch after the steep climb. High Street, High Raise, Red Crag, Wether Hill. We had now finished our drinking water and it became important to clean water to camp by. In the early evening we found a small stream flowing down into Cawdale Beck just a short way down from the path. It was difficult to find a flat area for the tents. It was a beautiful clear evening.PeteF26/08/1983
