The Kentmere Horseshoe from Kentmere in an anticlockwise direction visiting 9 Wainwrights: Shipman Knots, Kentmere Pike, Harter Fell, Mardale Ill Bell, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Froswick. Ill Bell, and Yoke. A fine and partially sunny Boxing Day, with very fine snow showers. Around the Kentmere Horseshoe with L. Finally the damp dense blowing clouds had just lifted to spur us on up the fun steep rocky path from the fine wind shelter on Nan Bield col. Views N over what was eagle country until recently. Excellent read in Wild Fell by the manager of the RSPB project for Haweswater. He writes well of his botanising scrambles on the brooding inaccessible, damp cliffs of the N face of Harter Fell, where eagles nested in the 1960s until they they relocated to quieter Riggingdale having felt disturbed by too many tourists attracted to Mardale Head to stare at them from the car park!Chris Pearson02/10/2023
Longsleddale Horseshoe with Jim, Jus and Cat from the (limited!) parking at Sadgill, via Shipman Knotts, Goat Scar, Kentmere Pike, Harter Fell, Little Harter Fell and Adam Seat. Visibility about 20 yards - good to be able to follow the fence throughout! Easy, grassy walking all the way, managed to get round just about before torrential rain arrived.wheresthepath30/09/2023

Circular hike around the head of Mardale. From the car park at the head of Haweswater, up to Gatesgarth Pass, then past Little Harter Fell to Harter Fell, down to Nan Bield Pass, and up to Mardale Ill Bell. Then across to Thornthwaite Crag, and back along the broad track to the trig on High Street, before dropping down to the Straits of Riggindale. From here visiting The Knott, Rampsgill Head, Kidsty Pike, and High Raise in quick succession. Found a new way down via Low Raise, and the SE Ridge to Haweswater, taking in Castle Crag for the first time with its fine view along the way. A perfect day with sun, frozen ground, and many walkers out. 19.7km with 1100m ascent taking 7 hours.silverwolf_alan02/01/2023

Kentmere circuit today. Bagged Yoke, Ill Bell, Frostwick, Thornthwaite Crag (again), High Street, Mardale Ill Bell, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike & Shipman Knotts (143/214 Wainrights) with John Herbertgeorge_herbert_24/09/2022
11.8 mile circular from Sadgill. Up Gatesgarth Pass, then leaving it to cross Bronthwaite Bottom up to the wall. We followed the wall up onto Branstree summit then followed the well-defined slightly boggy path to Selside Pike. We headed back to Branstree via High Howes, then descended back to pass. We followed the good path up Harter Fell (previously ascended in 2004) and continued along the ridge to Kentmere Pike and carried onto Shipman Knotts descending to pass back down to Sadgill. 1007m ascent. The weather was variable as we started in full cloud, then it got sunny, then it almost got rainy and finally windy, back down to the dale which was warm. Typical Lakes weather!DanTrig11/09/2022
A poor day for weather, cloudy throughout and drizzly rain picking up as day went on but a good walk nonetheless. From Sadgill east on signed but faint path to stile onto access land. Though nit marked on map path continues all the way up to Grey Crag and on to Tarn Crag though a bit vague in places. continued north along wall over coll and part way up towards Selside Brow then west on easy grassy ground to head of Gatesgarth pass. easy even in the cloud. Rest of route all on path. Up to Harte Fell and south to Kentmere Pike the ENE along wall to mine workings where pickd up disused mine track doen to main valley track. Easy all the way.dickscroop23/07/2022

Took a Monday off that Bec took off originally but had to cancel because of work. I still had mine so setting off at 4am I headed to Mardale for a short walk to dust off the cobwebs knowing Im taking my dad and sister up Helvellyn on Friday. After seeing lots of deer I started at Mardale Dale head car park and headed up Gatescarth Pass turning right to Harter Fell at the top. couldnt believe how much fitter I was than last time I did it. Got all the way to the top in less than an hour and without stopping. From the summit and after a milkshake made my way down to Nans Bield pass. The views were absolutely incredible even though it was very windy. After making it to the col I turn right to head for the shot of small water as on the front of the OS map. This is a stunning tarn and a must for wild camping. From there short walk back to the car. Didn see anyone all day. I was home before 10am to watch an exciting test cricket match were India beat England. Then watched snooker and Allen Scotty 2 Hotty16/08/2021
