My fourth round of the 4 Red Screes Wainwrights from the car park at Brothers Water, visiting Middle Dodd. Red Screes and its Synge Raven Crag, Little Hart Crag, and High Hartsop Dodd. Then I retraced my route back past Little Hart Crag and east along the ridge, before dropping by the old fenceposts past the impressive around Stand Crags to Stangs. A magnificent area below Dove Crag that I have not previously visited in my 60 years of Lakeland walking. Finally dropped down to the main track in Dovedale and back to Brothers Water. A great day, despite the misty conditions. 17km with 970m ascent 6h30m.silverwolf_alan31/10/2023

Solo walk from Brothers Water. High Hartsop (519m) first and Little Hart Crag (637m). Then another down and up to reach Red Screes (776m), then Middle Dodd (642m). Then I made the most difficult detour of the day, dropping to Stangs (474m) so I could bag the summit and then climbing all the way back to to Dove Crag (792m) and Hart Crag (822m). I then made a detour over to Great Rigg (766m) returning via my highest point of the day at Fairfield (822m) before walking back to Hart Crag and descending the ridge via the two summits on Hartsop above How (586m). A challenging walk as once on the fells I seemed to be constantly going up and down with very little level walking and the step counter measured 25 miles of 'real' distance walked. It was clear and sunny the entire day, some of the best views I've had up here for ages and relatively quiet considering the weather and time of year.meltdiceburg12/06/2021

Parked at the car park by the Kirkstone Inn. Short walk to Red Screes and Middle Dodd. The return of a smug Rock Monkey, finally completed the route which had alluded me for years. And with the help of my trustee companion, Nick, managed to descend via the same route without any help. What a fantastic afternoon to be rewarded with glorious views and no-one at the top (on the return).Jacqdaw15/09/2020

After doing Orrest Head, playing on the rope swing and in the cathedral caves. And an amazing boat trip on Lake Windermere we decided to get a drink at Kirkstone pass before heading home. when the kids saw the mountain (red screes) they wanted to do it. they did amazing and got some of my favourite pictures. so so so proud and one of my favourite days ever in the amazing Lake district. before we left we had the pint looking at what we had achieved.Scotty 2 Hotty13/08/2017

Up the impressively steep nose of Hartsop Dodd that loomed in full view from our holiday cottage at Hartsop during a cold sunny frosty week of great light. Onward over Caudale Moor and 2 Synges down to Kirkstone and up Red Screes by normal path and back over Middle Dodd and down to cottage as the hills turned inky black as darkness fell.Chris Pearson20/02/2008

Start point near Pets Quarry (NY393066), and up to Snarker Pike. IIRC, this was not a very pleasant route. But from the start to Middle Dodd and back took me just over 2 hours. How things had changed by the time of my second visit!David Purchase01/05/1992

Steve worn out from the walk yesterday. Me and Rick suffering hangover from the late night in pubs in Glenridding. Rick and I were dropped off at Kirkstone Pass and set off up Red Screes, soon lost the hangover. Pond skating on the pools on the top. Little Hart Crah, Dove Crag, Hart Crag, Fairfield, down and up onto Seat Sandal. Descended in dark. Had great pub crawl that night ending up gate crashing a yuppee party at Glenridding Hostel where me and Roy slept. On our return to the tent the next morning, Steve and Rick were frozen as was the tent and the brown ale!Mark T02/12/1989

About 4 visits. This was a special occasion, though, as it was on the way to my last Wainwright 2000 ft peak. It was Red Screes N ridge that we were interested in as Middle Dodd was the last one. Continued down the ridge to the valley, and Bridgend, via Hartsop Hall. With brother, Pete. Kilnshaw Chimney is the most exciting way up Red Screes- I,ve been that way once.pwheeler06/09/1989
