A very chilly wind blowing over the top of the pike | Alphaville199 | 08/03/2024 |
With Pops from Mardale Head car park. Very low cloud but no rain! little Harter fell, Harter Fell, The Knowe, Brown Howe, Kentmere Pike & Shipman Knotts. No views but lovely route, descended to Sandhills then back across Gatescarth Oass. 10.3 miles 3203 ft elevation. | nell1583 | 31/12/2023 |
The Kentmere Horseshoe from Kentmere in an anticlockwise direction visiting 9 Wainwrights: Shipman Knots, Kentmere Pike, Harter Fell, Mardale Ill Bell, High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Froswick. Ill Bell, and Yoke. A fine and partially sunny Boxing Day, with very fine snow showers. Certainly a nice change from heavy rain and storm force winds of recent days! 22km with 1200m ascent, taking 7h40m. | silverwolf_alan | 26/12/2023 |
Final hill with L on our Kentmere horseshoe round. The dense blowing cloud returned after a 30 mins clear spell. Now it began to rain - we enjoyed running down the fell race route - mostly a good grassy trod. Soon below the cloud and the rain stopped. The route became more slowing with both mushy bog and slippery(in fell shoes) rocks. 5 hrs-ish for the round. Had a look in St Cuthberts Church - well produced local history panels. We had parked next to hall partly over a BT inspection grid. I moved car in highly unlikely event BT turning up. 5 mins later BT arrived to lift the grid!- installing fibre to upper Kentmere. | Chris Pearson | 02/10/2023 |
Longsleddale Horseshoe with Jim, Jus and Cat from the (limited!) parking at Sadgill, via Shipman Knotts, Goat Scar, Kentmere Pike, Harter Fell, Little Harter Fell and Adam Seat. Visibility about 20 yards - good to be able to follow the fence throughout! Easy, grassy walking all the way, managed to get round just about before torrential rain arrived. | wheresthepath | 30/09/2023 |
No summit but a 6 hr around the hills with L. The record breaking extraordinary September heatwave had brought overnight dense blowing cloud swamping the hills down to low level. From Sadgill (angry farmer supervising the free parking- placated) we changed our plans to (not) see the craggy wild W'wrights Raven Crag route and instead kept views and stream water close by for top ups once the heat returned by encircling the hills up Gatesgarth Pass down to Mardale Head and backround over Nan Bield pass to Kentmere and back over to Sadgill all below the dense cloud that only lifted into hot sunshine mid afternoon. Nice walk and chat with Wayne am accountant from St Helens heading for High Street in the murk - discussing problems of IT hack of The council system and workarounds to pay the staff - and his desire to retire to do more of this! | Chris Pearson | 09/09/2023 |

11.8 mile circular from Sadgill. Up Gatesgarth Pass, then leaving it to cross Bronthwaite Bottom up to the wall. We followed the wall up onto Branstree summit then followed the well-defined slightly boggy path to Selside Pike. We headed back to Branstree via High Howes, then descended back to pass. We followed the good path up Harter Fell (previously ascended in 2004) and continued along the ridge to Kentmere Pike and carried onto Shipman Knotts descending to pass back down to Sadgill. 1007m ascent. The weather was variable as we started in full cloud, then it got sunny, then it almost got rainy and finally windy, back down to the dale which was warm. Typical Lakes weather! | DanTrig | 11/09/2022 |
A poor day for weather, cloudy throughout and drizzly rain picking up as day went on but a good walk nonetheless. From Sadgill east on signed but faint path to stile onto access land. Though nit marked on map path continues all the way up to Grey Crag and on to Tarn Crag though a bit vague in places. continued north along wall over coll and part way up towards Selside Brow then west on easy grassy ground to head of Gatesgarth pass. easy even in the cloud. Rest of route all on path. Up to Harte Fell and south to Kentmere Pike the ENE along wall to mine workings where pickd up disused mine track doen to main valley track. Easy all the way. | dickscroop | 23/07/2022 |

An inspired route change decision to abandon our intended Kentmere Horseshoe round on the summit as wet blowing clag settled on the tops - and to go off piste descending rough steep slopes west into the stunning scenery at the head of Kentmere with the magnificent Rainsborrow Crag rearing up ahead. Old slate quarries and walls hint at a lost history and views into a spectacular quarried ravine slot of Ullstone Gill - overlooked so far by climbers it seems despite its sheer walls -only one ref on web to it. Giant cube shaped Ull Stone boulder seen above (named on OS maps even at 1:50,000 scale). After a bite on dam wall tested our climbing legs with a steep 300m grassy climb up the nameless corrie below Wander Scar (appropriate for our wandering route) to N of Froswick to join the main ridge again. On way up- 4 red deer scuttled away acros the craggy steepness of Froswick. | Chris Pearson | 05/09/2021 |

Solo fr Haweswater car park, delightfully up to Nan Bield, in blue skies, sunshine, views! Bagged Mardale Ill Bell and returned over Nan Bield to Harter Fell, then jogged easily S and SE to Kentmere Pike. Very pleasant here, sheltered by wall and in quite warm sunshine. Had to retrace steps NW and N over Harter Fell. | NorfolkPT21 | 16/04/2021 |

Starting at Sadgill and up the Gatesgarth Pass then as per the Fellranger route through the Wren Gill Quarry. Faint path whole way to the summit but one locked gate and one fence required vaulting. Down via Goat Scar & Shipman Knotts. Thick cloud so no views but avoided the rain. With GFE. | Fionalevey | 14/11/2020 |
