7th time around the fabulous Fairfield Horseshoe, on a glorious sunny clear, calm autumn day, with low mist in the valleys to start. A beautiful day to be on the Lakeland Fells, with L. Overnight frost on the grass but warm in the sun then inevitably chilly in a breeze on top. Saw a lonesome foxhoud looking for its pack -peering into the corries, but ignoring us people. We heard a horn in the far distance.Chris Pearson12/10/2023

An easy walk today with Alma Aurea to visit one unvisited Wainwright. We walked from Grasmere, revisiting Heron Pike, Great Rigg and then back down via Stone Arthur which was the one I needed. Beautiful views on a sunny day. /Dmeltdiceburg03/09/2023

Walk from Rydal Hall pods with Jo and Philip. Up over the Heron Pike tops and round to Stone Arthur. Pint at Tweedies and bus into Ambleside for fish and chips.Mark T04/09/2021
Bumpety bump. Hardly remembered by most as its simply part of the grand ridge / horseshoe walk. Not so by the wall builders of old who terminated an extraordinary wall at the summit cairn here - having built it straight up from Rydal Beck through Erne Crag (where the wall stops then starts again). They must have believed the sheep would heft to the side put on and not have the 'nouse' to walk around the end at the top? Erne Crag has 3 poorly protected climbs on friable slaty rock - despite which the BMC guide surprisingly states it has 3 good single pitch climbs.Chris Pearson03/09/2021
