7th time around the fabulous Fairfield Horseshoe, on a glorious sunny clear, calm autumn day, with low mist in the valleys to start. A beautiful day to be on the Lakeland Fells, with L. Overnight frost on the grass but warm in the sun then inevitably chilly in a breeze on top. Saw a lonesome foxhoud looking for its pack -peering into the corries, but ignoring us people. We heard a horn in the far distance. | Chris Pearson | 12/10/2023 |
Parked in Ambleside.anti clockwise Fairfield horseshoe with out and back addition of Stone Arthur. 6 hours 9 Wainwrights. Misty morning clearing to give great views. | Longwojo | 08/10/2023 |
Hot and hazy, blazing sun, insects, little wind. Distant hills can be made out - Bow Fell, for instance - but only as silhouettes. | NorfolkPT21 | 08/09/2023 |
An easy walk today with Alma Aurea to visit one unvisited Wainwright. We walked from Grasmere, revisiting Heron Pike, Great Rigg and then back down via Stone Arthur which was the one I needed. Beautiful views on a sunny day. /D | meltdiceburg | 03/09/2023 |

Last top on the undulating ridge before the descent to Nab Scar begins. There is a Heron Island down below in Rydal Water and I read of actual herons being seen on nearby Grasmere (lake). At the western foot of the hill lived Wordsworth in Dove Cottage and half way up in a break in the steep slope is Alcock Tarn where I once camped introducing a then young nephew Joe to wild camping. | Chris Pearson | 03/09/2021 |
