Wainwright route from the dam. Overgrown due to summer growth underfoot, reasonably dry but lost track at times once above, lunch hut and then rough going. Wonderfully empty country although would like to see more wildlife variety and fewer grousetrimarc229/08/2021
Followed Wainwright walk out to Wasdale Pike with track virtually all the way on dry ground given recent weather. Couple of tops wrong side of fence/wall but were easy enough to get to. Returned over rough ground missing out Wasdale Farm by flanking Hazel Bank.SS25/07/2021

Started from Reservoir Car Park to Wasdale Pike (via Lunch House) - Low Saddle Crag - Great Saddle Crag - Brown Howe - Ulthwaite Rigg - Tongue Rigg with return beside intake wall above deer enclosures.RobB02/06/2021
Parked in the layby by the Shap bothy. Went through the gate , traversed to Old Shap Road heading for Whatshaw Common. Nipped over the wall to bag Whatshaw Common East (484) back over the wall to follow the track to Whatshaw Common. Back over the wall to follow the track to Little Yarlside. On the way to Great Yarlside we used the vehicle track on the west side of the wall that goes up to the summit , i.e. hop over the wall again. Bagged Great Yarlside , my watch said 592m. Back over the fence and along the track to Wasdale Pike for lunch. So far- easy , tracks all the way. Beware the fence near Wasdale Pike is not the one on the OS map. We followed it in the wrong direction for quite a way. We should have gone through the nearby gate and used our compass. Eventually made our way down to the ruined farm, followed the track then followed the fence/ plantation border up to the A6. No sign of the old farm track that Wainwright refers to in his book. 10km circuit.RowanP17/04/2021

Parked on the A6 at 55384 06219, went down the hill to cross the river at Hause Foot before doing a horseshoe of High House Bank, Robin Hood, Lords Seat, Great Yarlside, Great Saddle Crag, Wasdale Pike, Great Yarlside, Little Yarlside, Whatshaw Common and Whatshaw Common E.Top. 3h 50m 9.64 miles.clivevilla11/10/2020
Parking at Wet Sleddale reservoir - 'wet' is highly appropriate, only the very summits provided any semnlance of 'dryness'. Sleddale Hall, Scam Matthew, then almost trackless purgatory commenced - Ullthwaite Rigg, Tongue Rigg, Sleddale Pike, Wasdale Pike, Hazel Bank, Long Fell, quarry road, A6, Shap Lodge, track back to reservoir. After Scam Matthew intermittent ATV and An Tx provided a little relief from the interminable boot wrecking toody blussock grass. Having descended the quarry road, a sign says there is no public access (but it was a Sunday, so unoccupied), Only after having negotiated the bog to get onto it , a sign says that there is no public access along the cart track back to the reservoir, even though it is within an Open Access area.Isbjorn27/08/2020

WOs 92,93,94 and 95. Bs 79.80,81 and 82. A hard day. Easy walk by path and track from the dam to the Lunch House, then very rough and boggy going up stream to Gray Bull. Drier but rough and heathery over Sleddale Pike, Wasdale Pike, Great Saddle Crag and Ulthwaite Rigg with little of interest. Back along very boggy Mosedale bridleway and even boggier path around reservoir. Sunny all day but was it worth it?BURGESS10/08/2017
