7th time around the fabulous Fairfield Horseshoe, on a glorious sunny clear, calm autumn day, with low mist in the valleys to start. A beautiful day to be on the Lakeland Fells, with L. Overnight frost on the grass but warm in the sun then inevitably chilly in a breeze on top. Saw a lonesome foxhoud looking for its pack -peering into the corries, but ignoring us people. We heard a horn in the far distance.Chris Pearson12/10/2023

A circular walk around Scandale from Ambleside, visiting: Low Pike, High Pike, Dove Crag, Hart Crag, Fairfield, High Hartsop Dodd, Little Hart Crag, Middle Dodd, Red Screes, Raven Crag and Snarker Pike. 25km with 1500m ascent in 8 hours. (S)silveracorn_alan10/10/2021
Around the Fairfield Horseshoe with L sandwiched between freecycle collections - a mirror from the wonderfully named Tabitha Twitchett Cottage next to Beatrix Potter's house at Hawkshead then later an extraordinarily heavy Belfast Sink from Ambleside. Lovely approach through the woods alongside the gorge to High Sweden Bridge (much nicer than the standard Low Sweden bridge track). Since AW's day paths now exist up alongside both sides of the wall that follows the rocky crest -that on the west having been created thanks to the installation of a stile -although if taken the wall along the crest prevents the actual summit of Low Pike being easily reached(now with a cairn -another new addition since AW's guide).Chris Pearson03/09/2021
