7th time around the fabulous Fairfield Horseshoe, on a glorious sunny clear, calm autumn day, with low mist in the valleys to start. A beautiful day to be on the Lakeland Fells, with L. Overnight frost on the grass but warm in the sun then inevitably chilly in a breeze on top. Saw a lonesome foxhoud looking for its pack -peering into the corries, but ignoring us people. We heard a horn in the far distance. Dazzling sun glinting off Rydal and Grasmere tarns way below. The steps down were hard on the knees as always. Rydal Hall always interesting to saunter through with today a lovely sit down in a sheltered sun trap.Chris Pearson12/10/2023

Steep and fast jogging descent with L on the maintained zig-zag path and steps - for this is a popular ascent from Rydal. Good views across into the mouth of Rydal Cave where stepping stones lead across the flooded entrance and looking out Nab Scar is framed nicely by the cave roof. Rydal Mount and gardens is a pleasant spot to potter through on the return to A'side . It has magnificent trees and a gorge and ways of extracting tourist pounds from cream teas (£20) to occasions to hear live the great-great-great-great-grandsons of Wordsworth reading some of their famous ancestor's poems.Chris Pearson03/09/2021
Fairfield Horseshoe. Most of final descent is stepped but there are a few places early in descent where ground is loose.peter4lc02/09/2021
