Woke up early and left the kids in bed. Parked tight in a small layby next to a farmers barn. Had been snowing so was hard to find the path so in the end just headed straight up. Nice enough summit marked by a gate post, headed to the true summit also. fantastic snowy views of Kentmere. | Scotty 2 Hotty | 02/03/2024 |

Wainwright Outlying Fells Walk 3. An exploration of Green Quarter Fell, visiting Cocklaw Fell, Hollow Moor East Top and Hollow Moor. 9km with 480m ascent in 2h 30m. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 31/12/2021 |
From Hollow Moor E top, crossing fence between (easy). Back same way, whereupon the earlier bedraggled horse had mustered its friends to come visit me, but, unlike the Star Trek synthesiser, I could not conjour up some food out of fresh air, having already scoffed all of my grub. Down AW's very slippry route to join the RoW at NY 467044 | Isbjorn | 27/12/2021 |
With Sue from Kentmere church, Cocklaw via BWay to Green Qtr Fell rough path to top, return to gates and take another rough path to Hollow Moor E top and main top, crossing fences. Returned S finding break in wall and path we came in on. Poor weather rain cloud wind. | Frank | 24/11/2021 |
from the nameless top mostly by good 4 wheel drive track | trimarc2 | 10/11/2021 |
With Carol. Misty day. Wet grass. Park in field at Low Bridge (£5 for the day). Follow Wainwright route (OF3), pass ruin, turn left to gap in wall (west of Skeggles Water). The gate to the left of this gap was double padlocked, had been raised and was topped with barbed wire (welcome!). So, took a route north (following close to the east of the wall, initially) – no sign of track shown on large-scale maps - before heading up towards Green Quarter Fell (East); no cairn. Head west and cross fence – no sign of a stile – and follow track to Green Quarter Fell (West) (Hollow Moor). Gate post at top (“superb view” not visible!). Head back to the fence and turn left – there were some wild horses in this area – and climb over the second padlocked gate. Follow the ‘terrace’ to an old cart track. The head of the valley was now visible (but not showing “one of the most beautiful views in Lakeland”!). Descend road through Close Quarter to Low Bridge. Start, 10:20am, Return, 1:05pm. WOs 67,68,69,70 and 71. Bs 63. Early showers on first top, then a really nice day. Followed W's combined walk for Hugil Fell and Reston Scar with great views. After coffee in Staveley drove to end of lane for short ascent of High Knott - stile blocked and threat of legal action but .... Finally continued to Kentmere and did W's walk over Hollow Moor and Hollow Moor E. Top. Good path most of the way up but hard climb over tussocks to the summit and then very boggy down onto the bridleway, but the views up the Kentmere Valley compensated. | BURGESS | 05/08/2017 |
