Parked near cattle grid to the west and followed edge of access land to summit ridge. Then went onto In Scarmatty1971b09/03/2024
We parked on the side of the road and may our way around some cows and through a muddy field, passed a farm and onto the top were we saw our 2nd red squirrel of the day. We made our way across the limestone pavement to the top with is a concrete circle similar to Blencathra and Branstree. From there we headed today through the bracken, through more mud and back to the car. We had a stop at Teebay on the way home and I had some of Becs Pulled pork Scotch egg. That night we went to watch the Lancashire hotpots at Riva in Preston and a pint in the talbot before a MacDonalds and other things in bed. The next day we went to the white Lion for Breakfast and watched serial killer docs all day. Didn’t go to any bonfires because of the bad weather.Scotty 2 Hotty04/11/2023
Parked by Field Gate for a circuit of Knipescar Common and In Scar. Set off on ROW to NW. Access Land was an ocean of high bracken, so went up the fields: just one wall to cross with the aid of a tree. Visited summit and OS trig bolt.PGCE01/09/2023
With Sue from small parking spot below Scarside. Good track at end of road and due to dry weather nice and dry underfoot to top. Excellent vies in sunshine. Return same way.Frank08/06/2023

After a pleasant couple of hours on Heughscar Hill and Arkham Fell I took the car to Bampton Grange for a quick up and down. From the cattle grid I turned right thinking the climb looked a bit of a challenge but the network of decent paths criss crossing the hill made it more of a puff than a lung buster. From Shap to Bampton Road via Scarside Farm. Straightforward walk, along track following wall at top. Very windy at top (sunken trig point). Return via track along edge. Some great views towards Mardale and Haweswater.DABT26/05/2022

From layby on A6 and past quarry. Very nice little walk and great views of far eastern fells and even Blencathra in the North and Pennines.Slash328/06/2021
From the A6 via the quarry, walk due west to the scar. There's a parking layby 1/4 mile from the footpath at Shapbeck Gate. The road to Bampton was closed for roadworks. 9km circuit including geocaches on the CommonRowanP05/04/2021
We parked on the roadside just a few 100 yards from the farm lane leading up to the bridleway to the summit. We descended the same way. With Richie.Zoe Little07/09/2020
Solo with Leonie and Toby. Beautiful warm everning.outlyingfells2006/08/2020
Parked by fonebox in Bampton Grange. From In Scar. The wall between the two tops has been repaired and so it is best to go to the bridleway and up from that if doing the two tops.Alan Moore11/07/2020
Nice circular walk from Askham following the east bank of the river lowther to Whale where we followed the road around to a track passing barns and a couple of farm houses to the end of the track where you carry on in between two small plantations to easily reach the top. From here keep going to the end of the wall on the right where there is a clearing and a gate. We went through the gate turned right to Knipescar. Cracking concrete ring at the top. From here we carried on to the farm and the road back to Whale where we turned left on a path to a bridge over to the west bank of the lowther which we followed to the road back to AskhamWayne Mac10/07/2020

Easy parking to the south west where the bridleway leaves the road (alt 202m). A direct ascent would be extremely difficult during the bracken season and gorse also blocks the route completely before the final climb. Far better to follow the wall to the ridge top and then pick up a clear path to the summit.moorsman28/10/2017
In Scar first (from NY 5298 1827). Nice escarpment with extensive views to W. NB. The gap between Scarside and Inscar Plantations has been forested and, with a high stone wall, isn't so easy to go between.jonglew26/09/2017
WOs 60,61 and 62; Bs 61. Decided to leave the Shap fells until next year so drove round from Pooley Bridge to finish those around Kendal and Windermere, going straight up and back Knipescar, Cunswick Scar and Scout Scar. Showery and threatening with a strong, cold wind so did all three out and back by the shortest route.BURGESS03/08/2017
My final WO. From Scar Sidebardolph25/07/2017
Parked down at A6 again, and w Bryher and Jenx went up track, around edge of mature rape and then BW past old limekiln. These fields overgrown and thistly, possible signs of quarry expansion. After In Scar went through woods and gap in wall to Wainwright top. Jen down to Bampton w dog while I returned to car and round to collect them from river bridge.nordicstar13/07/2017
