Parked to SW just to SE of the Cattle grid at Winds Gate. Followed faint paths to top with M. My last Fellranger. On to White How, Iron Crag, Wallowbarrow Heald back via White How, Broad Crag and Great Crag.PeterD28/12/2023
From Eskdale YH, a circuit of Crook Crag, Green Crag, White How, Great Worm Crag, Gate Crag and 5 sundry others.PGCE14/08/2023
A 15.5 mile walk. High Tongue (234m) as a warm up, then Wallowbarrow Crag (292m), Wallowbarrow Heald (371m), Iron Crag (408m), Birker Fell - White How (444m), Great Worm Crag (427m), Birker Fell - Great Crag (333m), Broad Crag - Birker Fell (372m), Green Crag (488m), Crook Crag (469m), Great Whinscale (427m), Dow Crag (404m) and finally Harter Fell (Eskdale) (653m). The cloud was low all day so I'd opted for lower fells which worked well as these were all out of the cloud, except Harter. Harter did dip out a couple of times for photos but it was back in the cloud by the time I arrived. It was a tough going walk, ferns and bogs so quite a demanding day, but nice to explore this area in detail. I had some sun and some showers and some nice views in atmospheric conditions. A path over here from White Crag, although still boggy.meltdiceburg12/07/2023
Parked at Woodend Bridge and headed cross country aiming for Great Worm Crag. Spent an unhappy hour in endless boggy and tussocky country and ended up doing my route in reverse. Great Crag; Broad Crag; White How; Great Worm Crag. Beautiful scenery but unless you are lucky enough to find a faint path or a decent trod it's horrible walking terrain. If you are just going for Great Worm Crag there is a decent path from the road about 150 metres after the cattle grid coming from Ulpha (just past the beck). Its faint to start with but can be seen climbing up rough crag (not the WO version) where it continues to GWC and on to Fair HIll where I picked it up from a cross country trek from White Hill.ytfckent06/07/2023

From the cattle grid with DW, DS6 & DD4. Up by the wall until the path went left. Beware of the cow carcass (still not quite rotted) on descent via the main path. The Great Wyrm's latest victim one assumes.nukeboy110/02/2019

Woodend Bridge- Hesk Fell- The Pike (Ulpha)- Crosthwaite Bridge- Great Worm Crag- Rough Crag- Woodend Bridge. From The Pike, we followed the bw past a large ancient enclosure, then the wall from Winds Gate. Tried to avoid the mire from wall to Great Worm Crag but not entirely possible. Good descent, joining farmer's track by Freeze Beck. With Pete- admirable determination and painkillers to continue from the Birker Fell road, his hip replacement scheduled in 16 days time. Fine day, cloud above 3000 ft most of time.pwheeler24/09/2017

WOs 46; Bs 42,43,44 and 45. A showery day but stayed mostly dry. Parked on the Eskdale to Ulpha road below Great Worm Crag and went straight up over rough ground. Difficult terrain continued over White How, Broad Crag and Great Crag with no paths and so-called path back mentioned by W as outward route was continuous bog and very unpleasant.BURGESS27/07/2017
AW's route from the Birker Fell road. Little Crag, Green Crag via the steep, grassy ramp, White Crag and Great Worm Crag. Excellent views throughout.Nick Down101/05/2017
A tour of the Birker Fell Peak, visiting Great Worm Crag, White How, Broad Crag and Great Crag. 7km with 280m ascent in 2 hours from the Birker Fell road. (S)silveracorn_alan27/12/2016
From Wallowbarrow Crag. Inexplicably decided to do some scrambling on Basin Barrow in the fading light. Got to the summit of white How on a bearing in the dark. After nearly falling down a minor precipiece that could have resulted in major injury, used my torch to within 200m of GWC. Then tried to see outline in the gloom but ended up feeling which way was up in the dark and, hey presto, finding the summit cairn. A combo of determination, experience, divine providence and the smock. Back to the car in heavy rain, occaisionally falling thigh deep in the swamp but with a Higginson's pie to boost morale. 5 hours 15 mins.Wycombe Wanderer15/12/2016
