Lovely route from Gummer's How CP. Forestry paths and track to Sow How then ROW to Sow How Tarn and Heights Cottage. Out onto Raven's Barrow and sheep trods to the monument/cairn.summitter08/10/2023

With Sue from the Fell Foot NT car park to Raven Brow and monument via Sow How lane and tarn then Staveley Fell. Wet day.Frank30/03/2023
From Cartmell Fell Church. 9 km, 450 m asc. Over the summit of Raven's Barrow and then by Heights Cottage and Sow How to Gummer's How. N and NE to Birch Fell summit and back by Lightwood. Misty and messy on and around Birch Fell with fallen trees. https://www.flickr.com/photos/samandjo/albums/72177720305080891SalmonJoe07/01/2023
Final hill of a 10-peak day around the southern Lakes, picking up 5 Outlying Fells not visited before. Small parking spot on the verge of narrow road at SD 435 882. Then followed Wainwright's route clockwise to the large cairn (good view east) and local high point. Lack of daylight prevented both a visit to the church and recommended extension to the tarn.silveracorn_alan27/10/2022
Small parking spots at the base of the hill then a straightforward path upwards. Mind you, there are several summit choices!moorsman18/05/2022
Parked just below church (which is worth a visit) then easy walk to top with Fiona, just before big snowstorm hittrimarc206/01/2022

Arrived early to park at Gummers How FC CP SD289786. Sow How Lane, then FC track SSW. Wall corner at SD391870 is not visible from FC track; FP goes off SW along wall to Staveley Fell from where FC track passes between two isolated trees just W of a high point in the track (built a small cairn) – miss this path, as I did, and it’s up to grade 5 (purgatorial) brashings and veg. Back to track and on to Sow How farm/tarn, (delightful ‘Alpine’ pastures), Heights Cottage, Ravens Barrow, back same way to Sow How.Isbjorn06/10/2021

Solo, from Gummer’s How car park. Raven’s Barrow (Cartmel Fell), passing Sow How Tarn, then revisited Gummer’s How. Walked between summits via Lightwood & Birch Fell. After getting home, checked & realised I’d misunderstood the location of Birch Fell summit so I can’t claim it. Won’t be returning to correct my error!ADT30/08/2020
Quick up and down from the road after getting a proper soaking on Gummer's Howe. Impressive cairn and would have been a great view if it hadn't been lashing down with rain.Lazylizzie04/08/2020
Walk 11 of AW's Outlying Fells. Recommend extending to the tarn as the author suggested.James McKnight14/07/2020
Parked near start of track to northeast of hill (plenty of parking lower down at church). Up track, then left through gate. Nice easy start to the day.PGCE17/06/2020
Love an annual leave walk. Hardest bit about this was finding it. We set off around 6 as always and did eventually get to the village of Bowland Bridge and the walk starts from St Anthony’s Church. After very briefly wondering where we were meant to go Bec spotted the Summit. We headed up the short but steepish path the amazing Cairn/monument. Again Myla loving it and taking loads of pictures. Myself and Bec just chilled watching the world going by at the top as it was lovely and warm. Straight back down the same path and 15 mins later we were back at the car trying to decide which other outlying to do.Scotty 2 Hotty16/06/2020

Today was the day to pick up a few outlying fells, parked at High Newton Reservoir and a quick out and back for Newton Fell North, then drove to Bigland Barrow, parked at the EE mast and another out and back, then onto Gummers How car park, out and back to Gummers How, then off came the bike, Ravens Barrow via road/bridleways, returned so far and into the woods for Stavley Fell walking the last 200m to the top, and back to car park on bike via forest track and road.Chipstertrain26/11/2018
