With John - parked at the church in Kirkland, then up the 'Pennine Journey' path, onto the ridge, along to Knock Old Man, then down the path to Milburn and back across fields to the car. 16 miles in all, but it would be a brave walker to set off on the direct route from Great Dun Fell back to Kirkland. Magnificent views from the summit - the best I've seen from any hill in England, so make sure it's a clear day if you're planning to do this. | Richard | 18/04/2022 |

Diversion from A Pennine Journey walk. Up from Garrigill, down via Kirkland to Dufton. Very hot, sunny and clear. Though a bit hazy in the distance due to air pollution. | Nick Caunt | 17/07/2021 |
Great Dun Fell, Little Dun Fell, Cross Fell and Knock Pike from the limit of access on Knock Lane by the gravel pit. Followed the radar station road on ascent and cut the corner over easy terrain returning from Knock Pike. The gate to the golf ball station compound was open so I was able to visit the true summit. Gloriously spacious walking. | Nick Down1 | 07/07/2021 |
Blencarn ROW to Cross Fell. After revelling in the glorious wind shelter we took the Pennine pavement across Little Dun Fell to its big golf-balled brother. Over to Knock Fell before doubling back to the derelict Silverband Mine and from there the indistinct footpath to Milburn. Before tackling Burney Hill we had to roll two fat sheep back on to their staggering feet .. a kick in the shins being my sole good-deed reward .. perhaps making up for the many years of chops, shanks and kebabs. | summitter | 18/06/2021 |

Left Kirkland Hall car park at 08.00. Took the suggested clockwise circular route but detoured to Greg's Hut which was well worth the visit. Back tracked and hit the trig point at about 11.00. Had a brief lunch as it was only 2.8C with high winds and low cloud. Were going to carry on and do the Dun Fells but weather had set in so abandoned the idea. Weather lifted as we descended Kirkland Fell. Arrived back at the car at around 2.30pm. | TractorBoy | 26/10/2020 |

Kirkland > Greg's Hut > Cross Fell > Little Dun Fell > Great Dun Fell > Knock Old Man > Meldon Hill > Viewing Hill > Round Hill > Greg's Hut > Kirkland. One of the hardest and most ambitious walk I have ever done. Hardest bag was the walk to Meldon Hill from Knock Old Man due the the terrain. Otherwise the hardest parts were the river crossings required for the route I took. Drizzly rain for pretty much all the time and had to walk to Greg's hut and back from/to Kirkland in dark with head torch. Solo. Don't know how far I walked but my watch said 64,000 steps / 6,000 kcal for the day mostly 'off-piste'. | axoree | 14/08/2019 |

CIRCUIT FROM GARRIGILL FOLLOWING NUTTALLS ROUTE 9.1 OVER GREAT DUN FELL, LITTLE DUN FELL, CROSS FELL, BULLMAN HILLS, LONG MAN HILL AND ROUND HILL. VERY TIRING BUT MADE IT BEFORE DARK. | BURGESS | 26/09/2015 |
Big circular walk, parked in Millburn, Walked across fields to Ranbeck and Kirkland, climbing onto Cross Fell on a good path which disappears into a swamp, found the Pennine Way across Cross Fell to Tees Head then bagged Little Dun Fell, Great Dun Fell and out and back to Knock Fell, followed lane to Silverband Mines then followed the very unused and overgrown path back to Millburn. Perfect weather, great Lakeland mountain view to the West and great Pennine moorland View to the East. | DanTrig | 05/09/2015 |

Circular walk from Kirkland taking in Little and Great Dunn fells. Fantastic summit shelter recently re-built...great piece of work ! | Havenchris | 08/08/2015 |
Overnighted just over the watershed from the source of the s.tyne. walked up past Moor house and out and back to Knock Fell. Then over the Duns to Cross Fell and then out to Round Hill via Gregs Hut.
The one I have been itching to do for some time, a bit windy but not too bad. the views a little muted but still able to see for miles. summit cairns are impressive. at the southern end there's an o.s. triangulation ring as well as a trig at the summit. fair play to those who built the summit shelter/ cairn. it's a real work of art. | stig_nest | 08/08/2015 |
From Kirkland, adequate parking at road end. Partial cloud cover well above summit. Track well graded to about 500 metres, then becomes soft, wet and indistinct. It is safest to follow the cairns to a larger cairn at 684352, then turn right. Nice dry short grass on summit, where four walls radiate in four directions from the cairn, providing welcome shelter from all four winds. | Topographer57 | 01/08/2015 |

Legend states that a vanquished giant was banished to Cross Fell, his opponents directing that the worst of British weather should forever torment his stay. A February day certainly proved the truth in this. Icy winds driving needle sharp hail and a summit temperature of -10C were not conducive to enjoyment. Whilst doing Pennine way. Wind and hail but as I was walking south this was on my back. Met one chap heading north who only had shorts on and was putting on a brave face. 'Good Show' - I thought, that's what made Britain great. Walking the PW N to S means you get to meet everyone doing it by the book. I often met people who hadn't met anyone and I would meet about 10 people a day. | mindlessflogger | 08/05/2005 |

From Dufton, along Pennine Way. This is a good section of the PW, over Knock Fell and the Dun Fells,so keeping high over summits enlivener=d with rocky areas- little cliffs and scars and pavements. Typical good summer day, 20 degC at start, sunny with a little cloud, views as far as Grisedale Pike and Ingleborough. Descent to Kirkland, 14 miles. Ran back to Dufton (6 miles).
