A crossing of the Howgills from Sedbergh to Tebay with Christine, Eric, and Steve visiting Winder, Arant Haw, Calders, Bram Rigg Top, The Calf, Bush Howe, Fell Head, Uldale Head, and Blease Fell. A perfect day for walking on the velvet turf of the Howgills, although distant views compromised somewhat by the poor air quality. 20km with 1050m ascent in 7hours.silverwolf_alan24/03/2022
Howgills walk with Lindsey and GMC group (8 in all) from Cross Keys Inn (A683). Followed the glacial valley to the steep ascent beside Cautley Spout. Crossed the beck above the falls then path above Cautley Crags to Calders. Followed clear track north to The Calf then on to Bush Howe and Fell Head. Lindsey and I returned via The Calf, Force Gill Beck, and Cautley Spout (the GMC group went on to Simons Seat, Hazelgill Knott, Yarlside, and Randygill Top). Dry day, very sunny, but windy with gusts strong enough to make walking arduous.Skip19/03/2022

Arant Haw to Fell Head circuit from Howgill Lane.Jake99407/04/2010
Not actual date as no log kept. Cross Keys Hotel, Yarlside, Randygill Top, Fell Head, Bush Howe, The Calf, Bram Rigg Top, Calders. Scorching hot day and really too many steep grass slopes up and down for the weather. To cap it all had to summon up hitherto unknown stamina to rush the last three summits in order to make it to Calders before the thunderstorm. The sunlit trig point looked like a beacon against the forboding black sky. Was a bit silly really as the lightning started to strike on the far side of the valley while I was on top. Had to forsake the ridge descent and take the valley for maximum rate of reduced altitude. Just got into the car when the deluge started.Cautley Spout is interesting. Worth a revisit but maybe just to do the main ridge and in less haste.ijpowell01/04/2010

With a party from Thorns Hall, the HF Guest House, at Sedbergh. From Thorns Hall on footpaths and tracks past Ellerthwaite to Cautley Beck. Took path going upwards on the NE side of Cautley Holme Beck and then to the summit of The Calf. Went over Bram Rigg Top and Calders to Winder. Down the southern slopes of Winder to join the path back to Sedbergh and Thorns Hall. A nice Winter day.pwbellarby01/01/2009

Start ~ 698969, The Cross Keys. Followed the path in to Cautley Spout and climbed up to the col below Yarlside. We then swung left and made our way up the path to Bram Rigg Top and Calders, before turning back North to The Calf and Bush Howe. From there a quick out and back to Fell Head before we retraced via The Calf back to the Cross Keys. With Ron Oakley.steve hudson15/03/2003
