From Keld: Rogan's Seat and Water Crag. Easy walk past Crackpot Hall on broad grouse tracks. Path to Water Crag by the fence was faint and very boggy. Extremely poor visibility, freezing fog throughout the day. Returned the same way due to the poor conditions. | Lazylizzie | 28/10/2023 |

From Keld/Kisdon. Big snow showers came in on way up. Really cold on way down. Went up side valley from Swinner Gill leading to Hind Hole Beck as a short cut. Not much of a path, but really secluded valley. Recommended, but came back the long way via East Grain.

Due to snow couldn't escape back to Cumbria from Keld by car via Buttertubs - had to reverse and only just escaped over pass to Kirby Stephen. | davechaffey | 03/02/2022 |
From Tan hill starting on the bridle way a little to the east. Then cross country using fences as a guide. Not a very inspiring route in cloud. | dickscroop | 21/01/2022 |

Plenty of roadside parking in Muker. Track near enough all the way, following the River Swale then up Swimmer Gill, track not overly easy to follow up here, gets a bit scrambly in places. Then good shooting road. | jonglew | 15/10/2019 |

Pretty much as per Nuttall's 11.3, though messed up by crossing Gunnerside Gill too early which added unnecessary effort onto an already long day. | milimana | 18/04/2018 |
Keld - Pennine Way to Catrake Force - West Wood - Crackpot Hall (Ruin) - Swinner Gill Lead Mines (Ruins)- rose onto moor along East Grain (recently repaired path thanks) - then Coast to Coast path - taking the buff coloured track just past the C to C double headed sign heading for summit past the High Man Stone - Rogan Seat summit- then overshot to follow fence (Snowy drifts /low cloud) to bag trig on Water Crag. Retraced our snowy footprints back to the track and returned whence we came. | briandavies | 18/02/2018 |

Rogan's Seat and Water Crag. More or less followed route 11.3 from the Nuttall's book with the exception of going up to Crackpot hall (which still has a pan on the cooker even though it was abandoned in 1953) and also, on the way down I didn't notice the instructions to keep below “Lord Peel's shooting cabin” but I found another path that took me down to Blakethwaite Lead Mines and crossed the river there. Grouse shooting was going on at Swinner Gill and there were dead grouse on the track, one of which was not as dead as the others which I didn't like. Had lunch in the shooting hut at GR NY 922024 (thanks for leaving it unlocked, Lord Peel's cabin was locked). Had just become dark when I eventually got back to Muker. | tsharp | 10/01/2017 |

Solo, from Keld. | amswanston | 15/07/2016 |
Dalesrail walk starting in Muker, up via Swinner Gill. After this, pretty featureless on top, over to Water Crag trig point then back via Gunnerside Gill and lead-mining remnants. Hot and hazy, some heather-hacking to be done. Good views from Water Crag down to A66, and over to Mallerstang Edge. The way up and down better than the destination. | JOHNS | 29/05/2016 |
Parked in Keld, good car park. What a drag from Kisdon, this peak I would not wish on an enemy. Small cairn on top of mound with a white tube from it. Uninspiring peak. Glad I did it whilst it was dry. Company: Solo | iandesbottes | 28/05/2016 |
#583 From the CP in Keld, up through the old mines and onto the tracks across the moor. | tim747 | 24/05/2016 |

A BIT MISTY ON THE TOPS AND COLD WIND BUT STAYED DRY. FOLLOWED C2C FROM KELD USING NUTTALLS WALK 11.3 FOR THE SUMMITS OF ROGAN SEAT AND WATER CRAG. VERY EASY WALK, RETURNING THE SAME WAY. DIDN'T HAVE THE ENERGY TO DO THE FULL NUTTALLS 11.3 FROM MUKER! | BURGESS | 13/05/2016 |
From Muker following the Nuttall's route. | rhalstead | 01/05/2016 |

Climbed up from Gunnerside. | CMR114 | 26/05/2015 |
From Keld, up Swinner Gill, past the lead mines, which is really nice. The track up to the top is not pretty, but makes it an unusually easy walk. | Gill | 09/05/2015 |
Parked at Gunnerside, followed lanes up to Rogans Seat Summit, followed fence over rough terrain to Water Crag then followed tracks and paths across to Great Pinseat back down to Gunnerside via lanes across the moors, raining for most of the walk eventhough clouds were well above summits, 13.5 miles. Rogans Seat has got to be one of the mosty easiest mountains to climb ever. | DanTrig | 02/05/2015 |
from Keld, a lovely walk in followed by a dreary trudge along estate tracks - cairn obvious enough - unlikely to revisit. | stig_nest | 11/04/2015 |
An easy outing from Keld. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/wild-boar-fell-rogans-seat-and-kisdon.html | Gayle | 08/04/2015 |
Gravel track. | tomd4 | 31/07/2014 |
Walked on my own from Keld. Overcast but stayed dry. Good long distance views but hazy. This is a great walk with lots of contrasting scenery. Wouldn't risk 'The Pathless Moor' or 'meandering though peat hags' in bad weather. Rest of the walk has good paths though some are very narrow. | flockwatcher | 03/07/2014 |

Easy ascent from Gunnerside, mostly up the grouse shooting road which leads almost to the summit. | signyred | 05/03/2014 |
From the Tan Hill Inn on a blustery day. Nobody about. As far as bleakness and big Pennine skies go, this excels. Magnificent sense of remoteness. | Jake994 | 22/02/2014 |
From Muker via Swinner Gill and quarry track, returned following quarry track down Gunnerside Gill | webmaster | 07/02/2014 |
Spectacular navigational cock-up by WW made this a much longer walk than intended. Swinner Gill was impressive. Fell and grazed my hands running down from the summit. Sheltered in the chapel at Keld while Jez ran back to Thwaite to pick up the car. | Simba | 30/10/2013 |

On a beautifully cold and sunny February day I headed for Keld and crossed the bridge over the Swale which marks the junction between the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast Walk. Passing the ruined Crackpot Hall and pausing at some derelict mine buildings, I struggled through bracken up Swinner Gill to join a bulldozed road, from where it was an easy, if dull, stroll to the unmarked summit. Ingleborough was clearly visible to the south. On the descent, I discovered that there was a path wide of Swinner Gill which avoided the bracken. | peter4lc | 08/02/2011 |

A beautiful summers evening - calm and still. A last minute plan was hatched to do a solo backpacking trip. Carried a tent up into Hind Hole Beck pitching among the old lead mines. Then at 8pm! set off up scrambling small rock steps up stream to join new track -cairn on isolated peat hag was like a melting iceberg doomed to crumble with time. Then followed new fence to trig on Water Crag and back same way to tent in dusk. made a horrible undercooked dehydrated beef risotto eaten with a spoon made from a cut up Lilt can! | Chris Pearson | 02/06/1986 |

Walt Unsworth does this hill a dis-service. The summit may be dull but the walk from Keld- along upper Swaledale and the ascent and descent, alongside becks (Hind Hole up, East Gill down) with water fluted beds of dark limestone and white crinoid fossils made an interesting walk, as did avoiding the fluffy yellow grouse chicks on the moor. Weather improved to fine. Joined by Pete Ashby and some friends for the day. | pwheeler | 06/06/1976 |
