Parked at the car park just below Tortie Hill, up the northern side and down via the western side and in to the quarry.simocity24/03/2024
From Clesketts RSPB car park up via mines path, return via Brown Fell following the fence. Not too boggy, good views from summit.webmaster16/03/2024
Road from the RSPB CP at Clesketts to Howgill then track/path all the way to Cold Fell. Continued along ATV tracks to Great Blacklaw Hill and Three Pikes. Returned by choosing a heavy heather slog westwards to an eventual track that runs through Geltsdale Middle. This continues as a ROW to Old Water Bridge then uphill to get around Tarnmonouth Fell and Brown Fell before descending back to Howgill.summitter05/12/2023

From the RSPB car park. Lovely day sunny with no wind and decent visibility. Was a bogfest the path wasn’t the best but there was a clear path to the summit. Views to the Lakes, Southern Uplands and Cheviots. Saw Curlews, Skylarks Meadow Pipits Red Grouse and first Willow Warbler of the year. Time taken 2 hours 10 minutes for 5.8 miles 1331 feet of ascent.isabelle08/04/2023

With Val. From RSPB car park. A short unintended detour finding the start of the miners track but then a reasonable path to the summit. After recent hot and dry weather the path was not very boggy. Hot and sunny.mike.hoult08/08/2022

The first hill of a 6 day backpack that saw me visit several hills in the Northern Pennines. I walked into the hills from Brampton and arrived at about 5pm. I camped at the summit and headed south the following day.morgs4mountains21/03/2022

A long walk! - From Newbiggin (Townhead) we rise through the wooded valley (Bovewood) to the disused quarry on the Col above. A good track follows Ellerbeck and New Water between Cumrew Fell and Middle Top. As we approach Tarnmonath Fell we swing into the valley of Old Water crossing by the fine Old Water Bridge. Finally we rise onto Tarnmonath Fell following faint tracks to Cold Fell beyond. Only ones at the top we linger to take in the immense view. Return a similar way with a late detour to bag the trig in Cumrew Fell as the setting sun turns the sky an intense orange.briandavies29/05/2021
