On the last day of a New Year week in Yorkshire. Another murky, windy & misty day with Shaky & Smithy. Started from Kidhow Gate. Walked along Pennine Way & as per Ashley's description, spotted the cairn a little way up the hillside. Just beyond that cairn, a faint path leads more or less directly to the trig point which today was surrounded by a moat. Retreated by the same route before the rain properly set in & headed off to the Tan Hill Inn for beer & medals... | NotReallyABagger | 02/01/2020 |

Parked at Kidhow Gate and walked up via South ridge. Down directly West to Pennine Way, which is more straightforward. Path up marked by a cairn at SD 83487 84393. | Peter_W_Mitchell | 24/08/2018 |
Walk up from North Gate. Was a bit of a bog trot with my my daughter Izzy. Weather was very cool 7C and quite breezy with a few passing showers. Saw Red Grouse, Meadow Pipits and a Snipe. Views across to Ingleborough were good. Got back to the car in the gloaming. Time 53 minutes for 2.2 miles. | isabelle | 23/08/2018 |

From high point on road to SE, space for car near wall gap..
Followed wall then broke off up easy slopes to summit trig. Evening run, remarkably dry. Anyone else seen a strange plaque on a rock half way up saying Crossword Puzzle? | N.Morters | 09/04/2018 |
The road to the East was blocked by snow, so a longer walk than planned. Thick fog made it a near whiteout on top - a real test of navigation. After missing the summit the first time, managed to relocate and eventually tick it off. | huwthomas | 18/02/2018 |
NB, in heavy rain and strong winds from Hawes | Frank | 11/10/2017 |
In atrocious weather from Hawes with FR | Bheinn | 11/10/2017 |
A nice easy stroll along the Pennine Bridleway from Newby Head, followed by considerable athleticism wriggling between the wall and the wire fence above it to get out onto the hill. A soggy wet thrutch up deep vegetables to the top, but found a motorbike track down (yes really, hard as it is to understand this), which avoided the walls. Back the same way. | Gill | 30/06/2017 |
From the widening of the Cam High Road by the second cattle grid from Hawes. Less boggy than its reputation. | Nick Down1 | 30/05/2017 |
From Hawes (Gayle) SD 87001-89513 then onto Drumaldrace. | Westdenewalker | 28/04/2017 |

With K in mist. Best way up is follow Pennine Way from Cam High Road. At second shake hole where stream drops impressively there is a troll-like cairn on hill flank. Ascend here. ATV track/foot routes lead to summit. | Ashley | 26/09/2016 |
Parked at start of PF(PW) along gated road.(Kidhow Gate)Walk up PW then up to large flat summit area. | mart0797 | 06/06/2016 |
Otis | Glenford | 26/03/2016 |
Solo. Thick low cloud. Last of snow drifts along walls at the start and in peat hags when crossing to the summit, along with the bogs, created a formidable and wet feet navigation test I will remember this one for a little longer than most. No views.. | Aimless Rambler | 16/03/2016 |
Parked at gate to Cam farm. They have just tarmaced the road. Walked up to wall then contoured around to summit. A lonely peak but good views of flat head Ingleborough. This moor made me think of American Werewolf in London and halve expected to hear a howl. Trig point had a moot around it. Company: Solo | iandesbottes | 28/12/2015 |
Solo, from the roman road. Not the most inspiring of walk across the peat haggs in the mist. | amswanston | 11/10/2015 |
DROVE TO HAWES AND UP KETTLWELL ROAD TO TOP OF HILL, THEN OUT AND BACK TO DRUMALDRACE ON EASY TRACK. DROVE ON ALONG GATED ROAD TO SOUTH OF DODD FELL HILL AND UP AND BACK. EASY TERRAIN BUT AWKWARD WALL. | BURGESS | 11/10/2015 |
Gayle Pennine Way Dodd Fell Roman Road Drunaldrace Gayle | Andy Hirst | 05/10/2015 |
Solo walk from Hawes having accessed via Little White Bus from Garsdale station. Day walk from Hawes to Horton-in-Ribblesdale mainly following Pennine Way. Dull to start with but the day ended in warm sunshine. Dodd Hill boggy on top, glad not up here in winter. Gradual climb-good view especially over to Widdale. Few people hereabouts. | JOHNS | 04/10/2015 |
From Newby Head.A bleak place to start but the scenery quickly improves. Next, approaching Cold Keld Gate, the tautologous Ma looks uninviting but I walked to a little cairn/shelter (clearly in view), then over surprisingly easy and pleasant terrain. The top is almost flat but a way off to attractive steep gulleys via a fine cairn above Cam Road was good. There isn't much of a wilderness experience between here and Ribblehead, trail riders and an unmade road for forest trucks see to that. The B-road between Ribblehaed and Hawes is surprisingly busy, too. I turned back at Gearstones and got back onto quiet Pennine paths and tracks back to the start. This was a 12 mile walk with an almost incidental Marilyn. Fine, mostly sunny and warm. | pwheeler | 11/09/2015 |
From Fleet Moss, wetter underfoot than I was expecting. | JohnStoneham | 23/08/2015 |

Overnighted above Oughtershaw having driven back from the Lancasters Derwentllside flypast- arrived to put tent up in the dark - fun.. ? Drove to P.W. towards Cam House through 3 gates, followed track up wall and across open hillside, looks like trail bikes have been over here quite a bit, visited trig and decended to P.W. back to road. | stig_nest | 22/09/2014 |

with CP on Penine Way. | garth87 | 30/08/2012 |
Starting from Hawes, I took the Pennine Way across a field path, through Gayle and from Gaudy Lane onto open hillside. The Yorkshire Three Peaks were all visible at various times to the south, sometimes all at the same time. There were numerous squally showers, but this was as close as we were going to get to a fine day in this miserable summer. There was hail from time to time. I stopped to talk to two gentlemen who were not pleased at the surfacing work being carried out on the Cam High Road further on. I kept on the Pennine Way until at the closest point to the summit of Dodd Fell Hill, which was reached without difficulty. Surprisingly there were others on the summit. | peter4lc | 23/08/2012 |
From car park (11:15) followed Buckden Beck zig-zagging past waterfalls to lead mine and thence to summit (trig near wall). Dry but cloudy with cold wind. Back by same route; Buckden 13:45, then on to Birks Fell. | dbb | 15/07/2012 |
