A lovely round from Halton gill, taking in Horse Head, High Green Field Knott + trig and Blaydike Moss. It was a superb day and I hardly had to glimpse at the map BUT when I got home and looked at the GPS track I realised I had forgotten to do the half mile out and back to the high point. I will have to pop back again, WHAT A TWIT | DC11main | 31/03/2024 |
Hard slog along boggy/icy tops from Birks Fell - slow going. On Buckden-Ribblehead linear walk. | JOHNS | 07/02/2024 |
Nuttall Walk: EN 12.7 Yockenthwaite Moor, Horse Head Moor, and Birks Fell from Buckden. A beautiful sunny day, with extensive views. Ground very wet underfoot. 23km with 850m ascent taking 7 hours. | silverwolf_alan | 11/12/2023 |
Parked in Halton Gill for round of Horse Head Moor, High Green Field Knott and Blaydike Moss taking in both trigs on the way. | PeterD | 09/08/2023 |
From Hubberholme village: Yockenthwaite, Horse Head Moor and Birks Fell. Glorious summer day, warm and sunny throughout. Virtually all boggy areas were dry, despite how early in the year it was | Lazylizzie | 20/05/2023 |
Up from Beckermonds. Via the trig pillar. Then continued west to complete horsehoe. Some tough terrain. | cjo | 14/02/2023 |

Parked outside the The Queens Arms in Litton and took the bridleway to Buckden. At its high point we turned right to the Trig then NW along the snowy path to Birks Fell. On to Horse Head Moor then down the Pennine Journey track to Halton Gill. Delightful sun and snow road walk back to the Queens Arms for lunch. | summitter | 13/12/2022 |
LDWA Ulfkil Stride Challenge. Buckden - Horse Head Moor - Pen Y Ghent - Birk's Fell - Buckden. Tough 24 mile circuit. | dazedemon | 02/07/2022 |

Buckden - Birks Fell - Horse Head - Yockenthwaite. | squeegs | 25/03/2022 |
From Halton Gill up the very good track to the ridge then ridge path is good to Horse Head, becomes rather boggy in laces after that for much of way to Birks Fell with its large cairn. Because of bog and having plenty of time decided to continue east on much better path to the track down to Litton and the road back. If I had brought any money I could have stopped off for a pint in the pub. | dickscroop | 27/01/2022 |
Parking at Foxup farm (honesty box). Up good track to col at SD889776, then along N side of wall on fair path to Horse Head. Beyond is ruff’n’tuff to pt 602, High green Field Knott. For Blaydike Moss it’s best to pass through the gate at SD846777 and follow the E side of the wall to the summit, as the wall is difficult to negotiate. | Isbjorn | 22/08/2021 |
21 miles 2219ft walk. Start at Kettlewell, to Old Cote Moor Top, Birk Fell, Horse Head Moor, Horse Head and High Green Field Knott, back to Kettlewell. | stephenbuda | 16/08/2021 |
Buckden, over Birks, along ridge, across to summit, back to path and on to trig. Returned to track and descended to Yockenthwaite, then up onto path contouring to Cray. Over road and up to Buckden Rake track to start. | Flatfield | 13/07/2021 |
Beautiful in the snow, Don'T walk back down the waterfall side unless you like a challenge and falling over | NCurtis | 28/12/2020 |
Parked at Buckden (pay machine not working) then along Dubb's Lane and L up bridleway to SD92634 75282 at which point turned N past Birks Tarn to summit. Then followed fp through bog to Horse Head Moor, down Horse Head to Yockenthwaite. To Buckden along river Wharfe. Very pleasant. With Mart | John Eley | 28/11/2020 |
Abortive attempt to climb from Halton Gill - cattle on path. Drove round to Buckden and climbed Birks Fell and on to Horse Head Moor. Very wet underfoot after Birks Fell. | peter4lc | 29/09/2020 |
Parked in Halton Gill, walked along the road to Foxup, followed the footpath to Cosh and then found the atv track leading to the gate close to the word cave on the map. From there its a brilliant walk along the wall first popping over to the summit of Blaydike Moss then up to High Green Field Knott and finally all the way to Horse Head Moor returning to the car via the Pennine Journey. Nine miles in Four and a quarter of an hour. A real gem of a walk. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 19/09/2020 |

First day out on my new project: The Deweys.
I hope to complete by the end of 2021. Today a grand start from Halton Gill at the head of Littondale. To Foxup then up Blaydike Moss, cross country to High Green Field Knott. Then south along the dividing ridge between Littondale and Upper Wharfedale taking in the highest Dewey of Horse Head Moor before revisiting (Marilyn/Nuttall) Birks Fell. Down to Litton and back up the dale in the dark to Halton Gill. A great start to 2020. 24km with 570m ascent in 7h20m. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 01/01/2020 |
From Litton, parking by the phone box. Up to Birks Fell via Ackerley Moor and the Firth Fell trig pillar. Then progressed along the ridge to here, and on to High Green Field Knott, finishing the ridge on the Cosh Outside trig pillar before descending to Foxup Bridge and a 5k trudge back along the road... relieved by some benchmarking in the dark - 26km round trip. | jonglew | 02/12/2019 |

Hubberholme > Dales Way > Yokenthwaite > Horse Head Gate > Horse Head Trig point > Horse Head Moor > Birks Fell > Birks Tarn > Redmire Farm > Hubberholme. Just me and H. Beautiful spring day but really quite warm. Good going most of the way with just a few bogs still wet. | johnkaysleftleg | 15/05/2019 |
From Halton Gill I ascended the track to Horse Head Gateand then followed the path alongside the wall towards the summit. I visited the trig on the way back, before following the track back to Halton Gill. | Sprog | 10/02/2019 |

From P to N (S of R. Wharfe). | ger | 25/08/2017 |
Horse Head Moor then Birks Fell from Halton Gill. First half was surprisingly dry, the second half made up for it! Couple of walls climbed to avoid excessively boggy/lakey areas | the_adam | 04/03/2017 |
From Birks. This 6cm higher unmarked ground..I'd take some convincing you know! Visited all 3 candidates regardless and to my eye the bigger cairn is higher. The col is exceptionally wet. But crossing to the other side of the fence makes life a lot easier. Whilst at the big cairn a quad biked farmer had appeared. Nice chat with him, I think he was as suprised to see me as me him. | stig_nest | 01/10/2016 |
14.9 mile walk from Buckden along river to Yockenthwaite, up and down same way to Yockenthwaite Moor, thought this one would be terrible for bog but not problem at all today, stumbled across stone hut then trig, back down to Yockenthwaite and up to Horse Head Trig and along grassy trails to Horse Head Moor cairns, continued along ridge to Birks Fell, surprisingly wetter than Yockenthwaite Moor, to cairn, then along dry ridge to Firth Fell trig and back down to Buckden. Great day, hot and sunny with high cloud but with nice breeze. | DanTrig | 06/08/2016 |
From Halton Gill up Pennine Way then along to Horse Head Moor before doubling back and on along fairly decent going to High Green Field Knott. Down to wall by trees then up to Blaydike Moss. Got over wall easily enough then down to Foxup and along road to car. | SS | 30/07/2016 |
Halton Gill (roadside parking for several carrs) Horse Head Moor, High Green Field Knott, Blaydike Moss. Good path first half of ridge then weak path even on descent to valley. No path over Blaydike Moss but still fairly easy going. With Jill. | ijpowell | 16/06/2016 |
